Welcome aboard! Glad this forum has helped you learn so much, and we're glad to have you here as a member and not just a lurker. :D

Alex - I want back the 5:59 I spent watching that.  I don't think this would be considered a "B" movie or "C" movie.

It's more or less a tongue in cheek parody of B-list 80s action movies, which is why it's so awesome.

I third that ;)

Also agree with running a small team on this.  If Jackson is willing to devote his time to the design, I think free reign will get the best result artistically.  Nice one Jackson.  Others to promote the campaign, great, and I think you'll have a winner.

Jackson volunteered his time for the backs/tuck, so we still need someone for:

Jokers, AoS, pips, courts (optional)

Preferably one person would tackle the rest of the list.  :karrit:

UC got $7k funded on KS for their deck. After fees and shipping, I would think that would get the deck about half funded. While Jackson is very generous for offering his design service. I doubt he would want to run a KS campaign. With Jackson's name attached as the designer, it could turn into a pretty big project for whomever runs it.

The UC deck got funded half way on KS, and then mysteriously got the other half from one more pledge nearing the end.  It's unreliable to look at it and go "well, hey, we can do it too!"

@Jackson: When I meant multiple groups involved with the deck, I simply meant from a marketing standpoint. For example, back when D&D decks used to launch on T11 as well. Naturally the design of the deck should be given to 1-2 people and that's it. We *did* try this before, with at least a dozen designers involved, and it failed as a result. :P

Funding would be an issue if it was just a "Discourse deck." A joint venture seems more appropriate, perhaps with 52+ fans, PCF fans and fans of Lee Asher's magic, it could get done.

The last forum deck here was a failure because of, like Don said, too many cooks in the kitchen. It was a member's collab effort, and went down the drain as a result of every member having vastly different artistic skill.

The last forum deck to get funded wasn't even really funded, it got about half way before receiving the other half of its funding in one lump pledge. Maybe it was self-funded or maybe there was just one guy who wanted thousands of decks, but either way we can't rely on that kind of luck.

Decks that don't go "viral" (and this one certainly won't, since it would be by the members, for the members) must rely on proper marketing. I hate to say it, but it would be easier to get a shitty deck made with great marketing, than an amazing deck made with poor marketing.

So before all else, I think we should have a discussion about exactly how we will find the numbers needed to accomplish this.

A 2500 deck run seems most appropriate, and I love the idea of mixing vintage with modern. However, could we get a unique feel for the cards? The best thing about vintage decks from the 60s-80s is their handling.

When I was hunting antique shops for decks, I saw this relatively often. It's disgusting, and it's because the folks selling them don't understand the value or the hobby.

"I took a knife and opened the pack." That sentence makes me cringe. That is not how you treat anything vintage, whether or not it's a pack of cards.

36
On my to do list: Break into Jmrock's house and steal those Steamboats.

On a serious note, I'll post up my collection when I move into a new place and unpack my decks! I hope they didn't get ruined in the box they're inside of D:

Someone needs to find the thread here where we coated cards in fanning "butter" ;)

Speaking of change how long have you had that french fry on your upper lip?   :)   You have to have some grey hair by now running this board.

I'm actually starting to get grey streaks on the sides of my head, so there you go!

The fry will never change, btw

As a last little bonus treat, I tossed in some brand new staff rank images. The old ones kind of made no sense, but these do!

And it's really tempting to perform Fraud, especially because of how many anti-counterfeit measures we have.

Still, I need a reliable bill-switch since I wouldn't be wearing a coat indoors. Anyone have any (ORIGINAL, not copyrighted) ideas about switching out your bill for theirs?

My current thought is to do it while I have them find a sharpie to sign the bill with, but it's risky and wouldn't work with multiple people around.

Slims all the way. They had slick marketing!

What's the deal with their packaging? I've seen the boxes you have in that photo, but all the ones I own came in a two-deck sleeve.

So yeah, I don't think there's a better fit for who to pass the torch to!

I'll be sticking around as long as I have time to do any staffing/moderation as needed, as well as some back end stuff, for as long as I have time to log in each day and do that!

Being the only gold member here certainly is fun too, I have no idea why I didn't use that color before when we just had an Admin rank. 8]

@Sprouts: Don't think you're off the hook just because we have new owners. You are still on a leash, behind a fence, quarantined on an island called the Lolaq with all your insanity. >_>

How do you decide who gets to come over?

I would pick a country at random, visit it, and explore the town. I would meet folks and see who I find. The organization would most likely get tons of donations, as well, so it would be fucking awesome to use additional funds to help boost the town as well. For example, by building a network of roads or spreading free, high speed wifi throughout the town.

I like Bill Gate's approach. The guy basically decides "what do I feel like funding today?" and then does it.

If anyone here ever comes into big money, take a look at Gates & Buffet to see how you should be spending it. Those guys are awesome.

I wasn't aware KS added that feature, although back when I did my project they didn't even require you to fill out a "risks and challenges" form.

You'd probably want a certain % requirement for getting marked as fulfilled, since tossing a backer the power to completely kill a start-up by checking "not received" would be silly.

As for KS liability, their ToS have almost nothing to do with legal liability. When you agree to a website's ToS, it's not even legally binding (at least not in the USA). If they got involved, they could just as easily provide tools for project creators to work with their backers and still maintain their cut.

I'm not sure how they do it now, but when I was shipping I got my addresses in some horribly formatted Excel spreadsheet that had an abundance of errors and absolutely no sorting to it. That's it. Meanwhile, if I sell on eBay/Amazon/PayPal and literally anywhere else I get amazing tools to manage my sales. And guess what? If I sell you something on eBay, eBay isn't liable for it, just like I am not liable on this forum for sales made in STISOs by other people.

Considering how small the KS team is, it's probably just extreme laziness on their part. Heck, try sending an email to their support. You'd be lucky to hear back at all!

I don't think E, T11 and D&D are public, are they?

Anyway, after taxes that number would be closer to 325 mil. I would:

- Invest 25 mil into bit coin
- Instantly open an organization that moves a family from a third world country, sets them up in the US, and pays for their children's education through college, every year, using another 75 mil.
- Spruce up my life - buy a decent house, a good car, and what have you, using 10mil.
- Set aside 90mil to live off of the rest of my life.
- Set aside 50 mil as back-up money, probably in the form of gold.
- Hire two full time security guards/drivers.
- Use everything else to run for city council and then state senate, because they're part time jobs where you can initiate change!

If there is anything left over I'd probably use it to fund some crazy project, like start up a video game company, direct a film, or what have you.

I'd also probably hand out 10-50 grand to everyone I liked that I knew, and tipping 100% would certainly be fun, as would giving homeless folks random lumps of cash.

Not sure what else there is to do with that much money, or how people piss it all away and then end up homeless/depressed/dead.

Feedback + Support / Re: Chat

Fair enough, it works very well on my Zippo board and takes nothing away from actual posts/posting, just thought I would mention it.

I'm sure sometimes it works, but every board I've owned/modded that implemented it saw a drop in activity. At some point I do want to implement a PM system that is instant, like Facebook chat, and live, but that's far out. I'll consider allowing inviting people to the conversation, that'd be really cool actually!
