Title: 7-Eleven Playing Cards
Post by: MDCasino on March 31, 2017, 02:53:32 AM
Stumbled across these at my local 7-11. Made by Bicycle.

WOW! I was discussing the potential of this with a friend about a year ago.

Thanks for sharing.

I was just at the 7-Eleven near work last week asking about playing cards and they didn't have so much as a single pack of any brand.  Some of the smaller convenience store don't carry cards at all - one shop manager of a decent-sized chain pharmacy told me that he isn't carrying them because they're that tight for product space and that playing cards don't move as quickly or bring as much profit as other products.

I'd be curious to see if they have these in stock now!

The court cards have the 7-11 palette as well. I might pick up a few more... :)

Interesting...  They have almost-subtle one-way backs!

I'm interested in them anyway.  I thought for a moment that these might actually be old stock because of the "Oh thank heaven!" ad copy line.  They haven't used that in their advertising for years - "Oh thank heaven, for 7-Eleven!"  Assuming this is new product, they must be planning to revive it.

2016 copyright date on the box, X code on the Ace (if it still matters?), printed in Erlanger.
The two ad cards are coupons for chips and candy that expire on 12/31/17.

I didn't notice the one-way back until you pointed it out, Don.
Funny how magicians tend to have better observational skills than we "muggles"...
(or is it a more active imagination for deviousness and trickery, I ask in jest?)

Does anybody know/have an idea if these are only available in a certain geographical area?

From my understanding, they just released these, so they are probably still making their way out to all the 7-11 stores.  I won't worry too much as these will probably be really easy to get as long as you have 7-11s around.   ;)

I stopped by four different 7-11 stores on Sat with no luck in North Texas.

Checked a few 711 stores around the Metro-Detroit area today with no luck.  Just a few regular Bicycle Reds & Blues.

Question for anyone that has found them...
Where have you found them in the store?
Near the other cards?  A special place/section? etc.

THANKS.

One thing you have to look out for is the size of the 7-Eleven shops you look at and what merchandise they're carrying.  The stores are franchises, and the franchisees don't always carry the same merchandise.  I know for a fact that some don't carry playing cards at all because the franchisees/owners don't find it worth their while to stock playing cards over some other product with a better profit margin or that sells faster (in other words, something more profitable in general).  It's possible that such shops won't carry these at all.  This will especially be the case in smaller locations with less overall display space and locations where real estate is very expensive to start with.

I've found one chain drug store in my county where the owner himself told me he refuses to carry playing cards at all because he felt they weren't profitable enough!  No decks at all - no Bee, no Bicycle, not even a cheaply-made dollar-store deck anywhere.

If your local 7-Eleven doesn't carry playing cards at all, it's possible they won't get these and you should try another location rather than wasting time on return trips to find them.

Thanks Don.  Great insight.  Up till now, I've tried stores of varying sizes with no luck.  I'm sure they will show up soon.

This is in Holt, Mi. According to the manager, she said that the stores had to put in for them months ago and she said she was supprised that she got them. On mobile and says pic is too big. http://imgur.com/KelKkq4

Here's the photo, if you couldn't get to it on the link.

You couldn't upload it because the file was over a megabyte.  I reduced the image by 30% in length and width to make it small enough.  Click on it to enlarge it.

There are several stores in my area, i had to go to the largest one to find them. Even then they were basically hidden. Really nice cards though. I was tempted to buy the shelf but resisted and only bought 8 decks

The 7-Eleven near work specifically stated that they will not be carrying playing cards, period.  I've found this in some retailers before, especially when you're talking about franchise shops with high rent per square foot.  They want to put products in with the highest return on investment they can, meaning either very high turnover or large markup.

I know it's been awhile since these cards were released and it might be a little late for this information. If you can locate the cards and you want to buy a large amount, talk to the manager. I bought a brick and the manager marked the decks down from 3.56 to 2.51 each. hope this helps. on a side note there is nothing better than going into a 7-11 and asking the clerk to pick a deck and start doing impromptu magic with a new deck they have selected.
