Hi all

Hoping for some help dating my consolidated dougherty tally ho deck. I've attached photos.

I believe it's 1954 my reasoning is the tax stamp I believe is from 1940-1965 and looking at the ace, the code is T which I believe would mean 1934, 1954 or 1974 and 1954 fits with the tax stamp.

I'm pretty new to this and I'm hoping I'm right but happy to be proved wrong so am I missing something, should I check something else or is there a better way to date a deck than the way I have got to the figure.

If anyone has any general dating tips or resource websites. I couldnt seem to find a list of all dougherty aces for example which would be handy I'm sure it's out there but just don't know where.

Appreciate the help.

Hi,

I'll be there although the Saturday it is the last day of my holiday so I'll see how much time my wife allows me to watch! lol. But honestly I hope to watch most. It'll be my first, although I've bought some custom decks now and then over the last couple of years I've only recently thought of myself a collector and started studying the cards, learnt who designed etc so I'm looking forward to this event to expand my knowledge and see more of the playing card collecting world.

Introduce Yourself / Re: How did you find PlayingCardForum?

Hi,

I just recently got a bit more serious on collecting, looking it the history of playying cards and wanting to find out about the current designers and things like that and on my travels I found 52+ Joker and then signed up to the forum from there.

I'm hoping to find some advice on starting an antique collection, I've currently only got modern decks but after reading paper empires Id like to get some cards from the manufacturers in that book.

Hi all,

My names David, I got in to collecting through my love of magic and playing card games since I was 5.

I wouldn't call myself a magician but I do card tricks for my family and friends and I thought it would be nice to have something other than bikes so I first bought a custom deck in 2019 and about 2 times a year after that I'd buy some different custom decks. But in the last few months I've really got involved, acquired more decks and started to be aware of some of the different designers and manufacturers of cards.

So I now call myself a collector and at the beginning of the year I said I need to get to 100 decks to have a "proper" collection and to be honest after spending to much money in the last couple of months I'm now over 100 but I love the cards so it was worth it! Although my wife probably wouldn't agree!!

All my cards are modern but I have just read paper empires and really enjoyed it so I'm going to take a look at antique decks and hopefully start a new collection and I'm thinking that might be where I start to focus and then be a bit more selective with any modern decks that I see - any advice with starting an antique collection would be great!

Pleased to be here and I'm looking forward to my first virtual event next weekend.

Monkeyboy aka David.
