People say nothing's impossible, but I do nothing everyday.

Today I found something that reminded me of you. But don't worry I flushed and everything went back to normal.

That is a very neat collection - especially the fact that many of his decks were simply GIVEN to him!

I've been at it for 14 months now, have over a thousand decks - I think I could catch up to him!  :))

EDIT: FINALLY - at 2501 posts, I'm ranked King of Hearts.  I was getting tired of being a Queen for so long...

Thanks for the link! That's a pretty neat story! I'm not surprised that many of the decks were given to him because if he bought them all the story would be about hot in debt he is  ;) Joking... well sort of.

I doubt I'll ever catch him on that one. I only 3-4 bricks a year, which isn't too bad. That's about 4 decks a month. Although I'm usually get more than that at a time and saving so it's not too bad financially. The biggest test has been this crazy onslaught of decks, but I've been fine.

It's cool to see a story about somebody who shares the same hobby as us  :)

I'd be curious to see if he had what we would consider "collector's decks", like S&M, MSM, Bicycle Garden Cage, Red Artifice, etc.  Four thousand decks could easily mean two or three thousand Bicycle decks, and the rest are casino or tourist...

There is a few things I like about this article - firstly seeing someone else who likes collecting... and secondly the question of how to measure a collection. Do you do it on sheer number of decks? Number of different decks? Themed collections, I.E all the ellusionist, all the casinos from las vegas, etc? This guy has a phenomenal collection, and I love the fact that he had the jump on us getting into it 10 years ago. However try not to compare yourself to him because we don't know the decks he has. Say the average bicycle deck is $7/8 - and you have a thousand, you have spent say $8000. If you bought some really cheap cards - i.e buying a gross of cancelled casino cards for 99c a deck and tactics like that - you could end up spending the same and having what appears to be an extensive collection. However the thing I really like is the honesty the guy displays in his attitude and I think a lot of us will relate to him - he liked poker, for poker you use cards hence he likes cards. Who else here got into collecting through cards (I for one was CARD magic), it's nice to see someone just be honest and carefree with their hobbies - you can see he likes the cards for the cards and not just the idea; he has themed them, and organized them and specifically collected some (the states etc). I think this guy is awesome.

Without a doubt, he's happy with his hobby in addition to being a bit of a local celebrity for it.

Glad to see everyone liked the article :)  I got into magic and card collecting, mostly from liking poker and card games.

"A smaller, framed collection displays matches, cigarettes and cards with the presidential seal on it. One deck, Mercurio says, came from former President Bill Clinton’s helicopter Marine One. How did he acquire that one?

“I can’t tell you that,” he jokes."

Hmm...
