No one is gonna fly a long way to find another. Don't worry. Just a town, doesn't change much thing.

Lonely? In a major city like Boston? I'll grant that NYC can feel a little isolating as well, but there's so much going on here that you practically have to work hard to avoid meeting people if you get out of the house and go do something. I've met lots of people under weird circumstances - and being a magician doesn't exactly hurt, either! So what do you do with your cards - toss them in the air, make them disappear or stare at them on a shelf behind glass? :D
-
Haha, No I know a TON of people in Boston. But no magicians.

A little bit of each. Mostly I go out to bars and clubs and perform. I don't do it as a career, just a hobby. I absolutely love it, but sometimes it's nice to have someone to share my hobby with, on the same side of the art, not as a spectator.

When I feel the urge to be near fellow magicians, pro or amateur, I go to a local magic shop. Tannen's across from the Empire State Building is very well known for being a magicians' hang-out as much as it is a store. Each time I've been there, there were a few magicians swapping stories or showing off new illusions.
There MUST be a shop fitting that description in Boston, right?
Another thing I've tried (with a bit less success) is sharing the art with a protege. My proteges, however, tend to be not as jazzed about magic as I am.

You know, when I was a kid, I remember visiting at least 3 different magic shops in Boston, they are actually all gone now. The city has 0 magic shops left in it. There are a few on the outskirts, and I have visited them on a couple of occasions, but every time I go it's just the shopkeeper and an empty store :'( .
I have tried reaching out to 1 or 2 people that have expressed interest in magic, but no one seems to share the passion I have for it.

Hmmm... Perhaps it's time YOU opened such a store... :)
-
Haha, that's a wonderful notion, but I could never do it. Unlike the "American Dream," I, in fact, do not want to own my own business. I like having a boss. I'm a software developer by trade, and magic is a very passionate hobby for me. My own store, I literally couldn't do it. Perhaps the reason all the stores around here shut down is because no one was spending any money in them.
Magic is funny like that. Anytime you inspire someone else to become a magician and start practicing the art, it leaves a warm fuzzy feeling inside you. Magic still has to be that exclusive club though, it looses its flair if everyone is doing it.

Try starting a weekly gathering for magicians at a local restaurant - nothing fancy, say, a diner or a McDonald's. Penn & Teller used to do that here in NYC at a dive joint near Times Square, but that was before Times Square lost all of its dives and those two became Vegas celebrities. Post about it on social sites like this one, oriented towards magic and/or cardistry.

My dream of a store in my old county is dead. Someone beat me to it, and in a good location, no less. I could try competing, but there's likely not enough business right now for two such shops to survive. We'll see in a few years.
