I like it, and I don't normally even like skull imagery!

Four years ago this would have been a huge release.

The backs are gorgeous. I wish the faces were a bit more in line with traditional deck design, though. I hate one-way court cards.

Love it. I'm not doing magic, not playing poker every weekend with these. I'll play once or twice, and then through back in with the rest of the collection. 1 or 2 way courts don't matter for me.
Last night I stayed up late playing poker with Tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died.

Isn't there going to be an issue with the Bicycle branding on this deck?

Check out the Bicycle 125th/127th Anniversary decks.  All of those Bicycle logos have the same basic design as this one does.

In the end, however, it all lies with the Brand Manager and USPC Legal.

If you watch his promo video he talks about the very issue. He said he had already contacted Bicycle about the logo and they gave him the "ok" to use the old turn of the century logo. One of his main goals is to make it time period accurate for both the engraving style and logo style.

It looks like this deck is off and running very well!  I love the design/aesthetic, still not my personal taste so i'm passing on it but I have no doubt this will be a huge hit.

Let me summarize USPCC legal:

"HEY DERP, DO WE FEEL LIKE BEING SCUMMY ASSBAGS TODAY?"

"SURE DO, HERP."

Also, it's likely USPCC design dept. signed off on this design but didn't check it through legal. Legal is a separate entity and changes their mind every fucking hour.

New info regarding this deck - Chris plans to launch a limited edition Midnight Calaveras deck following the release of this project.

I also really dig the name Dead On Paper as his brand to release project.

UPDATE: NOV 4th

"Hey everyone,

Just wanted to share the good news that the cards have been printed and, hopefully, I'll have the finished cards in my hands within a couple of weeks (cards are going into finishing at USPCC)!

Today I received an uncut sheet from USPCC. My photo setup isn't great, but I wanted to share these images:

I don't think these images really do the actual sheet justice, the detail is seriously amazing!!! One of the things I did when I setup the art files was to cheat the resolution limit of the artwork. I vectorized everything and set the blacks to overprint the background image. I know that's a little "inside baseball" talk, but it means that the artwork was printed at an effective resolution of 2540dpi—the limit of what's possible in most commercial printing. Offset printing has a resolution of 300 dpi - that 846% jump in resolution means that every line, and every mark, is as crisp as the drawings I made. I'm seriously floored by the results and can't wait to get these cards delivered to you so you can see it for yourself!"

The Calaveras Deck is being released in a re-colour with a tuck swap called 'Midnight Calaveras'. It's not coming to kickstarter but you can pre-order it now through the Arcana backerkit - which also means you can grab some arcana if you missed it.

Most BackerKit projects are indeed open to the public.  When a backer finishes filling out his or her BackerKit information for a given project, they usually see ads for selected other BackerKit projects.  I saw one such project for a cheap, homebrew 3-D printer that went through a round of funding each on Kickstarter and IndieGoGo.

When you think about it, what project creator WOULDN'T want additional post-project revenue flow?
