I am looking to sell a considerable amount of the decks I have accumulated over the last 2 years. I have been out of work and with dwindling funds, I have decided to make the necessary sacrifice.

I am only asking for the amount paid at the end of the campaign (minus shipping costs I incurred) I will, however, be charging shipping for postage from Brisbane, Australia to the purchaser. This will be calculated on the weight of your total purchase as well as what kind of shipping method you choose.

I do agree though, that there does seem to be this mainstream requirement for every movie theatre to have some moron who doesn't know anything about what's going on asking numerous questions throughout. Why do these people insist on going to see a sequel movie, without having watching the preceding ones first?

If you listen during the trailers, you'll also hear that one guy who whispers a little too loudly "That looks good!" after every damn trailer. I'm usually the other guy. The one that says "That looks terrible!" or "That one sucks!" after all the chick flicks. British rom-com on the other hand are granted a special pass based mostly on patriotic pride.

I think it's important to have physical Fluff items.  I've noticed a lot of other Fluff items on Kickstarters are all digital.

I agree, but alot of printers will only accept orders of a minimum amount. With T-shirts this can be 5 to 10, as the time and materials to set up and produce the items in such a small run can be very costly, and these costs are passed on to the customer (you).

As such, many people will make digital versions because if they don't sell, then they haven't had to shell out $100 for t-shirts noone wants.

I give t-shirts as an example (since this is what you are referring to), but this applies to all 'fluff' items be they dice, bookmarks, beer cosies, coins or laser-etched wooden boxes.

It's almost as if someone attempted to suck all the life out of a deck of playing cards.  Damn near succeeded, too.  The four-color scheme is an assault on my eyes and the pip arrangements on the spot cards are the antithesis of minimalist design - it's like the spot cards came from a different deck or something.

I finally have it.  This is the illegitimate offspring of the Vanda deck and the Bicycle Tattoo deck, and it got all of the boring, uninspired genes!

One good thing is the courts are a damn sight better than they used to be. I knew I'd seen this deck 'in progress' somewhere, then this evening I remembered that it was on 'the forum that shall not be named', and in its topic the original draft had just the name of the court inside a box:

Carbon Fiber Playing Cards

According to the project creator, these cards will be made from actual carbon fiber, then printed with the card design and punched out.

This is Sly Kly's first playing card project, (his first two were dice manufactured on a CNC machine, unsuccessful, then a successful relaunch).

I would need more information before being able to make a full assessment. From this image:




it is possible to see a white edge to the cards. This, in addition to the perfect orientation of the fibers, gives the impression that the design has been printed onto regular cardstock. Whether these cards are merely a mock up of what the end product will look like, or whether this is an impressive scam, or the cards are real carbon fiber and the white is the edge of the card with residue from being punched out is up for debate. We shall see.

At $70,000, a version accented with red thread will be released



and a blue thread accented version will see a release at $100,000

First impressions?

Paul I have a question/comment. I would love to see your deck come to fruition, I've looked at your work and really like it a lot. Looking at your work I noticed, at least on your site, there isn't a lot of portraiture or people. The reason I'm pointing that out is because in my opinion, for what it's worth, the courts seemed out of place with how you were presenting them. I mean no offence what so ever, I'm just wondering if you presented the courts with more abstract/inanimate objects, etc... if it would lend itself to the deck better. Statues of kings, maybe Kings and Queens from a Renascence fair. Just my opinion of course I could be way off base.

Again, I mean no disrespect to you or your work, I love your concept and am just relaying my impression on one part of it. I'll be looking for round two when it comes along and I'm sure which ever route you take success will follow.

In addition to Sparkz's point, I was wondering if you had considered taking photos where there are a number of items equal to the pip number, but not the same item increasing in number throughout the suit, e.g. the 5 of Hearts might be a photo of 5 apples in a bowl, while the 6 of Hearts could be 6 roses in a vase. The items wouldn't even need to be all grouped together. There might be a photo of a fairground with X number of balloons throughout the scene. I could imagine people cottoning on to the idea from the more obvious ones, like the apples and roses, then trying to work out what the object is for the others and trying to find them all. 

The Queen of Axes(?) seems to be the only half-decent looking card. For the amount of detail in that versus the detail in the Two of Brains, it seems very lackluster.

Plus, as I'm sure one of Don's points would have been, the undead theme feels quite overdone, and the timing is off for a Halloween-esque theme since it's been launched a week after that.
