Update - I've starting making a very new deck modification, something I can create out of most types of decks currently on the market.

Imagine you have a marked deck.  But it's not just any marked deck...  You don't only know the top card of the deck and that's it.  You can determine the BOTTOM card as well - even when the deck is thoroughly shuffled, by you or by a spectator!  It's wholly not dependent on any kind of stack order.  Better still, you can read the top or bottom cards WITH YOUR EYES CLOSED, BLINDFOLDED!

And did I mention that I can make it as a stripper as well?  Pro-grade?  Stripped either on the long side or the short side?  I personally like short-edge strippers - it allows you to pull cards and cut to cards without having to resort to a Hindu shuffle.  Hindu shuffles are great in India but are rarely seen outside of a magic routine in North America.  Short-edge strippers allow you to use the very-common-in-North-America overhand shuffle movement to pull cards out of the pack.

If this sounds like the kind of deck you'd like to own for your magic arsenal, get in touch with me!

This still around don? :) How you been?

Centurions still available? If so, mind snapping a pic?

Thank you! Fun to be back.

Yep, these cards brought me back to collecting from a 1.5 year slumber. Maybe a little pricey for not being a limited run though. Certainly gorgeous. Anyone get their hands on the ABCs?

Introduce Yourself / Long time no see :)
« on: December 28, 2016, 12:18:43 AM »
Haven't been on the forum in almost two years, so I'll reintroduce myself.

Things have changed quite a bit...

When I joined this forum I had a miserable job, no money, no card collection...I was just looking to get into cards and back into magic.  Some amazing people, such as Don Boyer, Lee Asher, and Jackson Robinson had deep personal impacts, whether it was sending me a surprise deck or just being encouraging about my love for cards and magic, they really helped me find my passion again.

Since then, I have gotten married, got a job in investment banking, and while I can't collect and dedicate time to magic like I once did, I now have a deeper appreciation for the cards and life in general.

I'm back because I miss it, I really do. I read a few posts, and man I've missed a lot. happy to see Jackson is still killing it and 52+ has continued to grow it's brand.

Looking forward to catching up with everyone again. Maybe send me a pm or respond to this with your favorite deck I missed in 2016 :)

1) You don't have to buy the latest and greatest decks to be part of the conversation.
2) Never say never - that deck may yet come to fruition.

1) Yeah I know, but the more time I spend on here, the more money I want to spend. I still have an issue with self control which is why I stopped cold turkey  :karrit:

2) It's just that my plans with stuff like this always get pushed back and never completed. Also, the deck I want to make is very simple and I wanted to make it look like a vintage Jerry-esque deck of cards, and I feel like a deck that simple would never get a ton of funding on Kickstarter due to the thousands of other minimalist and simplistic decks.

,,,most of which were utter crap!

Oi!  You've seen me say this before on this very site, perhaps in different words.  You don't have to be the first to the party, you just have to be the best - or at the least, the best to date - and you'll get all the attention!

If you don't go for it full-bore with all the passion you can muster, then of course you'll fail.  Get rid of the negatives running around in your brain and PUSH this idea - then, you WILL succeed.  It's far from impossible.  I've seen decks I wouldn't use to scrape off the bottom of my shoe get funded - what's stopping you from doing better?  (The answer?  Just you, my friend, just you...)

So, have I got your attention now?  :))  It sounds stupid and corny, but build it and they will come - as long as you can make it balls-to-the-wall better than the "minimalist" nonsense that came before it.

On Don's point about designing your own deck - I've noticed that the people who listen to the advice doled about by the many collectors and deck designers on this site generally have successful KS campaigns (not guaranteed but good percentage)...they also can clue you in on potential pitfalls in production and distribution.  So if you're ok with it and ready to get kicked off the horse (and most importantly have the chutzpah to jump back on), do it!

Playing Card Plethora / Re: Classic Gold by Legends PCC

I got myself a mixed brick plus a few extra decks of Classic Gold and Onida.

The classic Gold back design vaguely reminds me of the white Global Titan deck due to the white space and gold line work. Similar in an eery way, but definitely not the same. I really look forward to testing out the handling!

I would have gone for the mixed brick, but have already ordered the Gold 52 from CARC. I'll wait, and hope CARC will get these in.

Hey hey, back again hopefully this time not so briefly :)

CARC has 200 available going for $13.50 or joined with a mixed brick of classic twins for $59.99.  Well, 198 available, made my first card purchase in forever - wedding was two weeks ago so done saving temporarily!  What else have I missed my goodness, what's the hot new deck the last 3-6 months?

Of course my first post in months and months is off-topic, but this topic reminded me of last year when there was a topic for all Black Friday/Holiday deals.  Does one exist yet for 2014 holiday season?

Ah, good to be back :)

Anyone seen any hints or notes on individual release for these?  I know we've speculated about Black Friday - just seeing if anyone in the know knows anything :)

9
I'll probably wait until christmas time - guessing there will be some sort of deal/discount.  Very nice though!

May I submit to a 12 month payment plan?

Gorgeous as always Jackson.  Spectacular.

Wow this is sad.  I love the design of these cards...cool box too...but $25/deck?  Just can't justify that on a deck no one has handled or experienced in some way (you can with one of Jackson's projects because you know what you're getting is worth every cent, but comon guys, deckstarter should launch with something that's not prohibitively expensive).

The downloads are still not available.  This is the e-mail I got in April...it notes they would be available late April but still haven't seen an update:
"Hey,
Huron here. I'd like to give you an update regarding your pre-order of the Perfect Faro and Cascade tutorials. As mentioned on our website, the tutorials were estimated be delivered at the official launch of the Spring /Summer '14 Virtuoso deck in late January.

However, we recently developed new and improved techniques for the Perfect Faro and Cascade, and strongly feel that we should include them in your purchase. This has resulted in the Perfect Faro expanding from one video to three, and the Cascade from two videos to three. To give you an idea of how much content you're receiving, the Faro tutorial now runs at 40 minutes long.  Naturally, this has extended the tutorial production duration, and we now expect all the tutorials to be ready in late April.

While we understand the frustration of waiting to receive something that you've already paid for, we value your investment and trust in our work even more. This means that we would rather spend a bit more time making the best possible product for you, than rush you something that could have been much better.

Regardless, we deeply apologize for the delay, and will learn from this experience to better estimate pre-order delivery dates. We thank you very much for your patience and understanding, and we assure you that the new tutorials will be well worth the wait. I will definitely let you the moment the tutorials are ready. Take care and talk soon!

Cheers,
Huron Low"

My goodness those tucks...these cards...everything is breathtaking.  Here is the dilemma, I know the members of this board have differing opinions I would love to hear them.  I was fortunate enough to land 4 in the forum pre-order.  I want to reserve 1 for trade so maybe I can get a white whale crossed off my list somewhere down the road, I want to save one never to be opened as a star of my collection, likely the lowest numbered deck I receive.  So that leaves 2 decks...how does everyone feel about opening one.

Usually it would be a no-brainer (at least for me), if you have an extra then play...but these seem special. What are your plans for your decks?

4rdered :D Thanks Paul!!!  What numbers are this lot?

These early order will get lower numbers. I'll have to sort them all out but intend to fulfill them roughly in numerical order, with just a few special exceptions. So you all will definitely be on the super low end of the scale! A lot of you will be in the less than 100 bracket.  :)

So sweet, what a unique opportunity afforded to the members of the forum. Membership has its privileges :)

Can't wait!!!! I saw the "sold out" thing and my heart skipped a beat until I saw they're available on the 24th.  Paul, you are awesome, thanks so much for offering a supply to forum members.

If you're offering some on the forum, should we not also buy on the site?  I only want to max four, just making sure I don't double order.

Thanks!

Design & Development / Re: The Discourse Deck
« on: April 13, 2014, 11:43:37 PM »
I guess its time for me to throw my two cents in here. In order for this to work wouldn't it have to be a discourse branded deck? And in turn that would mean that discourse would be up for rebranding. In my humble opinion discourse doesn't really have a brand visually speaking. The name recognition maybe there by now but there is definitely not a good visual identifier. Unless of course you want a use Don Boyers avatar. (tounge in cheek)

As a brand designer, I could be talked into developing a good brand for the packaging. I'm not talking about the brand of the deck but the brand of discourse in the same way that bicycle is a brand. On the upside the website could get a good refresh from this as well.

I guess what I had more in mind is taking the brilliant minds of collectors and artists and joining forces to do something everyone on the forum would love, I'm not sure if the point is really to brand the Discourse, unless that's what Tom and everyone want.
