This has some great art work. The deck is playable........just not as easy as rider backs. That's not really a concern with this deck. As others have said. It's an art deck. Most people will not be playing with it. I wouldn't so much have a problem with MPC on this type of deck, except for two things. First, short run pricing usually means an overpriced deck. Second the vibrant colors of the diamonds will not be so vibrant. The dark colors will bleed into each other, and make the picture look like a dark blob. I hope I'm wrong. I'd be willing to pay a little extra if they turn out like what we see so far.

But there lies the problem - MPC doesn't reproduce colors as well as other presses do.  It will be darker and muddier than what you see, which for the most part is pretty dark to start with.

Not easily playable?  Understatement of the year!  One suit - just one - has pips buried inside the value font!  Crazy design - awesome for people who love outrĂ© artwork, terrible for a game of Go Fish and intolerable for poker.

I don't think he is worried about people playing games with this deck. We've seen hundreds of decks based on an art style, that you wouldn't play with. This is also not a deck geared towards magic or cardistry. That's why I would give this deck a pass on playability and handling. I agree with the you that most likely the artwork will turn dark and muddy. While MPC is known for this, they are not the only companies this happens to. I've received a few decks from USPCC that muddied out as well. I think part of it is the artist. It seams to happen when you have a lot of dark colors shading into each other. You can see the distinction between the shades on the original work, but it all gets lost in the final product.

I picked up a deck like this last year at the convention for $50. Mine is not wax sealed, and not quite as good tuck.

This one isn't wax-sealed, either.  I think it's just an embossed sticker or stamp.  Unlike this seal, the old wax seals USPC used to use were monochrome. ;D

My oops, I meant sealed in the paper(it looks like wax paper)

NgNash. How come such a short campaign. Only 12 days is not a lot of time to build backers.

@Rob Wright: you made my day with you No 17 brick. Do you know if No 17 decks gonna be sold on specialised playing cards e-shops? Like Jpp.... or is a kickstarter limited release? I could'n back it, but i'm hopping to buy them from resselers.

Lorenzo usually has some left over. Once the project is complete, I'm sure you will be able to pick some up.

Playing Card Plethora / Re: v2 LUXX: Gilded Decks - PRE-ORDER SOON
« on: July 03, 2015, 06:27:47 PM »
I was clearly mistaken!  Still available!

The preorder didn't start until about 1:30 Eastern today

I'm in for 2 of each. Looks nice, and not bad priced for a gilded deck in my opinion.

Clearly others will buy these decks based on reputation, well deserved I might add.  But is there some reason he only chose to show 3 cards from both decks?  I kind of like to see what I am buying.

That's pretty typical. Jackson has done that on most of his projects. As Justin O said -WIP.  He often does google hangouts, and will put out videos of the designs. His artwork is always top notch, but his interaction with the backers has also made him very popular. He knows how to run the projects.

............We also don't see Anthony's letter to Alex. We only saw Alex's response.

It's in the first post.

We are talking about digital photo's of product that Anthony does not design, sell or manufacture. We are NOT talking about cars, which have an associated cost to make.

Interesting

I wonder how much a good camera, lighting, and display cost these days? I've got a camera on my phone that take okay pictures, and that was $600.
Oh, and how about some labor cost as well?

I understand this as much as anybody. I still would not have asked for compensation under these "specific" circumstances. Thats just me I guess.

I know you and Don have been going back and fourth on this, so I thought I would throw a little fuel on the fire.  ;)

I see what you are saying. I don't disagree with what Tony did, but if it was me. I may have handled it different. I may have just sent an email to Alex asking him to take it down. That's easy for me to say, because it hasn't happened to me. When people take and take from you, eventually you have to do something about it.
In Alex's defense, maybe he didn't know better. The thing that really got me was the "FU" style response he sent Tony. Very unprofessional to me.

The good news is, it sounds like it may become a positive for both Alex and Tony. Good to hear.

One of the positives that has come from this is education. The truth is, a lot of people just don't know what is right, and what is wrong. I'll admit that I have added KS photos to a few eBay sales in the past. I never thought of it as being a copyright issue. Now I do.

As far as Alex not throwing any bones Tony's way. If he was smart, he would send a bunch of work to him. For one, Tony takes excellent pictures. Second, it could go a long way to him repairing his reputation with a lot of collectors. Even though things are settled between Alex and Tony, there is still a bad taste in the mouths of many collectors.

I finally go the wood pen you made Rob  :D

I have to say... it is surreal much better than I expected... I am Loving it haha

Thanks, Glad you like it.

I'm really surprised this hasn't funded yet. It's one of the best going on KS right now.

Wow! that's some crazy pricing for a MPC deck. $15US shipped for an earlybird. About $22US for standard pricing. It's actually more expensive each when you get two. About $46US.
..........................Initially, we aim to print 500 decks, half of which will be rewarded through kickstarter.  The rest will be enough that we can resell and use to print the decks into the future.  That is why the pricing is about $20 AUD.  However, if we are funded well enough, we would like to increase the quality as mentioned in our stretch goal and possibly change to a new printer.

..........What printer would everyone recommend that offers fulfilment?

Welcome to the forum madscienceatwork. What you said here, is one of the biggest problems I see happen on KS projects all of the time. Putting a high price on KS decks so that you have a bunch left over to sell later. This could have been priced to sell all/most of the decks. The other thing is you put an extra expense on yourself to do the signatures. Most people don't care about signatures. Especially from a first time project. I have nothing against people making a profit, but with a $3,600 goal, there is not a lot of room there. The margin you're trying to get seems a little high.

LPCC also does fulfillment as well

Good luck on your project.

The design is nice enough, just not my style.

He says 3rd party fulfillment, so I assume MPC will be doing the fulfillment. 4-6 weeks does not seem too unrealistic if that is the case. That's probably what they are telling him. However.........how are they going to get all of those decks signed if that is the case?

Playing Card Plethora / Re: Top Modern Decks to Collect
« on: June 23, 2015, 02:18:31 AM »
This question gets asked quite often. My advise is to collect what you like. Going after "collectable" decks will make you broke-quick! The good news is, there are collectable decks being made everyday.

I will give you a list of artist who are at the top right now-in my opinion, and no particular order.
Jackson Robinson(Kinks Wild Project), Randy Butterfield(Midnight Playing Cards), Paul Carpenter(Encarded), Lorenzo Gaggiotti(Stockholm 17), Rick Davidson, Ade Suryana, and Brendan Hong.
This is a short list. There are a lot of other great artist I can't think of right now.

You can also go on Ellusionist, t11, Dan & Dave. or even bicyclecards.com. I'm sure there are 50 decks at least that you might be interested in. Get "cheap" decks while they are available. If you buy cards before they sellout, you won't have to pay eBay prices a year from now.
