Hello guys. I have been inactive on the discourse for quite a while as I was too caught up with college and work.  As a result of an unfortunate course of paperwork, I ended up losing my job and now have to part with my collection in order to raise funds to travel and see the family.

I would say that you should use the fingernail of your index finger to do the flick. Lesser friction implies lower chance to get the bottom cards sliding. Also, your grip on the sides of the deck is important with regard to the release, as too deep of a grip will cause the top cards to split (as Curt said). Try and experiment with it.  Also, use your wrist to add some momentum to the packet (just a little bit though). Using your wrist can also help make the flourish a lot more fluid and hopefully keep the packet unifor.

Let us know how it goes. Good Luck :))

Greetings and welcome to our community. Hope you enjoy your time here :)

Not on the box. There should be a date under the ace of spades, I believe.

Welcome to the discourse. Quite the collection you've got there.

Quick question with regard to the steamboats in the second picture. Are they opened? And if so, what year are they?

Any-who, have fun and enjoy your time around here :)

Cheers!

Agree, guess I lucked out because of using antiseptic ointment on a regular basis, something sort of similar to neosporin.  Benny, try to look for an ointment called Fucidin (or something with the same active ingredient, since Fucidin is the product name made by leo). It should be available in the UK under that name though.

Once again, get well soon, kid.

Greetings, fellow card enthusiast!

Welcome to the discourse.  Feel free to browse around and ask about anything you don't find :))

I would pick D&D's academy (under "Learn "on their website), followed by Andrei Jikh's Genesis v1  or De'vo's Xtereme Beginners as a good starting point.
After that, if you wish to continue with flourishes, then you must learn and master Chris Kenner's Sybil, as that will help you relate to a lot of cuts rather easily.  Lots of sources and variants for the sybil are available online.
Only after that would I recommend moving to something like DM's danderous motion, the system, the trilogy ,solo, papercuts or anything else you wish to do.

Hope that was helpful. Keep in touch with your flourishing journey. :))

I understand what you are feeling. Not too long ago, I had cut away a very small segment from the corner of my left index finger while I cooking. I don't usually cut myself, and never had a cut that severe.  Just keep the wound clean and it will heal in due time. Thankfully mine healed completely and with no scars. During the recovery process, I  practiced one handed cuts for the most part and would recommend the same to you.

Get well soon kid  :)

Greetings and welcome to the discourse. Don't worry, you'll get the hang of decks in due time. I mean there's always a starting point :).

Feel free to ask us about any question that you can't find on the forum. We would be glad to help, especially our resident encyclopedia, Don  :)).

Cheers

Looks really neat.  :)

The only constructive criticism I could think of is the illustration. It looks a little too "computerized" in my opinion (2nd picture).  Making it look a little more raw or rustic could help I guess.

Still, great idea. You should really go for it. ;)

Is learning from top view difficult?

It's not difficult, it's just different.

An example would be the flip out/closer for genesis. It took me a while to learn because I couldn't make out the proper finger positions from the top view. Then one day, I was just randomly thinking of something with a deck of aviators in my hand, and voila, I performed the cut without realizing what I was doing until after I was done. I digress.

Point I'm trying to make is that, for some cuts, you need to get an understanding of what goes on from the front view in order for the top view to be helpful. That, and practice.

Let us know what you are practicing and how it's going :)

Would you say papercuts is easier to learn from than the system?

In my opinion, papercuts could be a little harder. The angles are better but the flourishes are mory knacky I guess. Chris and Jordan are quite skilled flourishers. Still enjoyed that disc a lot

Seems like the colors match those of the fonts in John's and Don's  titles. :)

They look beautiful. Looking forward to them.

Damn america is cheap! here is costs $899 to get a 4s.

I have a samsung galaxy Ace. Mostly because it was android and on a reliable plan for $30 a month

The only reason Iphones (and other phones) seem cheaper in the US is because them of being associated with contracts (usually 2yr long ones). The phone plan that a person is made to have, over an extended contract period, makes up for the phone's cost many times over.
The true cost of a phone,in this case, is the value of a new unlocked handset.

At all other places that I have been to, you usually
  • buy any handset you like
    pick any operator you like
(if you wish), you can select a plan you like, without the necessity of contractual obligation.
Pardon the rant. I digress.

Anywho, I own a Nokia N8. The reason I bought it is because it had the best camera out of any phone on the market at the time, and continued to be for a while. (12MP, Carl Zeiss Lens)

Currently wishing I could own
  • Nokia 808, a 41mp camera sensor with pureview technology,
Nokia Lumia 920 (flatmate has it, probably the best phone I have operated till date)
Sony Ericsson Xperia go (Xperia advance in the US) or Xperia Arco s, both of which are water resistant, and (at least the go, if not both) can be operated under water. The Arco also has a 12MP camera on it, which will hopefully be a Cybershot/Zeiss.
The ubuntu phone project seems interesting

Looking back at this post, I see that this as been quite the rant,so, once again, forgive the long read.

Am personally kind of a fan (no pun intended :-[ ) of the stock. I do own V 4,5,6 and must agree in the matter of the faces. The older ones were quite enjoyable.

Yes, and to practically no avail, which is why asked people that were actually knowledgeable about them.
The only (hopefully) relevant info is the number in question, steamboat 999 (hoping that number can help determine the year of production).

Randomly found this on ebay. For some reason, this makes me feel sick.

Don't know if it is Ivory and Cambric

I'd say it is most likely cambric(same case on my end).Look at the top of the box. Part of the word will be covered by the seal but you'll see "BRIC" , and hence my conclusion.

Apparently, I ended up receiving Air Cushion professional Skull cards (as well as Ivory). Didn't know those existed, at least not on D&D's website.

Quick question....how much are the old Cincinnati steamboat decks worth?

That's really sad. And even the news of his death didn't stay on the front page for more than a day I guess. Seems like the people have moved on rather quickly (and with quite some indifference, sadly).

Good thing that they're now trying to throw some light on it.

Don't know of the release date. Quick question though, wasn't this deck made for the same reason as the EZ See LoVision deck?

Add Altruism deck to the list. The little triangle/pyramid above the owl's head 'faces' the same direction on both ends of the back design.

EDIT: Fixed it. Thanks Don. Will keep that in mind.

you guys might want to check this out they posted this on there instagram page a hour ago, and on there Facebook page ? I think its called the Ultimate Deck by Stranger & Stranger .

There was a post on a thread quite a while ago about this deck.
