Hi Fred we meet again. My bad on the date, i must have read wrongly, in any case its a very long lead time, underpromising just so that you have alot more slack doesnt seem to be a good thing to me as well. Well the low goal for 3 decks, 10000 'limited' run, deck of 54 cards they all just dont paint a convincing story for me. I was in pretty heavy at the start, decided i didnt want to risk it at the end.

Hahaha i dont know why but i smiled at "Hi Fred we meet again".

Yeah i agree setting a longer estimated delivery shouldnt simply result to more time to half ass. I hope it doesnt. Nathanael answered the low goal query saying that he was basically quoted $18,000 to print 3 decks (Given the fact that they're all very similar and in the same 'print run'). He also stated that due to the heavy 500% overfunding of his first project, he had some extra cash he was willing to put in.

The 10,000 limited run was set up at the very beginning, in anticipation of a generous response of demand from the community. They didnt get that response (I think they deserved at least a 100k end result but that's another story). They obviously will not be printing that amount now haha, i think 2,500 of each deck is most likely/reasonable.

I totally understand why you didnt feel convinced to jump on. I was a bit iffy at the start as well until i saw the frequent updates/talked to Nathanael himself. Hopefully everything turns out smoothly and i don't lose my 'scammed on Kickstarter' virginity :)

I went 2 of each on this one. Absolutely love the artwork. After conversing with the creator and weighing the risks, I felt comfortable pledging.

Volantangel, the estimated delivery is 7months from now, not a year. 7months is about double what one would reasonably expect. I dont find that too ridiculous. Would much rather have a late estimation and possible early delivery than an estimated delivery of February and receiving the goods in July. Also, if you look at Nathanael's previous project, even though he did not meet the estimated delivery date, he has been incredibly transparent throughout the whole process. Personally, i didn't see any red flags with this one at all. Guess we will see.

Good comments Fred. By the way did you pledge for the deck?

I starred the project for now. Most likely will not end up seeing this one to the end though. The price tag, though may be justifiable when you take into account how many hours such a project would've taken, is still nonetheless quite ridiculous. But yeah, at a normal deck price (~$10) i would've jumped for 2 decks. Would've considered at 20-30$.. But 70$?, way out of my budget that's for sure. It should be noted though that at $70, you do also get the nice anodized matte metal card case with a sweet touch of minimalism.

I have a feeling the pricing model for this one's probably not going to make it. Best of luck to Connie.

Art decks should still function as good playing cards decks. Look at the Stranger&Stranger Ultimate deck. The Curator deck. The Clipped Wings deck. I'm not saying the art isn't good, I'm saying it doesn't belong on a deck.

An art portfolio would be a much better option. It kind of seems like she just up one day and said "Well, I have all this art. I guess I'll just put it on a card deck".

Even from an art-centered standpoint, consistency is still an issue. Why does all the art on the 4s, 2s, and 3s have a connection to the value of the cards, but the rest of the cards don't? Why is the suit clearly visible in some drawings, but nonexistent in others? It would need to either be completely random or completely coherent. 1/2 way just looks kind of weird.

And I'm sorry, but that back design is just lazy.

Im looking at the Ultimate deck. I fail to see your point. Are you saying that the art on the Ultimate deck is 'playable' with artwork that 'belongs', whereas this deck isnt? Hahahaha, mate. Come on buddy.

With regards to only the 2s, 3s and 4s having a connection with the number of figures/faces on the cards. I don't see why that's a problem. Would you rather see the 4s have 2 faces and the 2s have 3 faces etc? Do you, without alcohol or other drugs in your system, reasonably think that the 10s should have fucking 10 figures/faces on them?

"It would need to either be completely random or completely coherent". What kind of alpha professor are you to be able to make such rash and ignorant statements? By your logic, a suicide king in a regular deck would be out of place thus making the deck "meh" (your words).

Appreciate the deck for what it is. A purely artistic deck. Don't judge something with norms and guidelines of something else. As ridiculous as it sounds, not all playing cards are/have to be playable.

The back design is just a repeating pattern of her logo. I don't like it either, but if that's what you're basing your argument on and ultimately calling the deck 'meh', you're funny. There are dozens of decks on the market, popular ones, that incorporate the same 'laziness'. There are also dozens of decks that use 'lazy' standard faces/'lazy recoloured faces. I'm going to assume (safely i hope) that you've bought decks with those elements above before.

I hate when people like you nitpick at the tiny things and fail to see/acknowledge the gloriousness right in front of you. Name any deck, i will be able to nitpick shit the same way you are. Stop hating, appreciate it for what it is.

Wow.

Well... I guess that's one Deck I can scratch off my Black Friday "too buy" list.

I mean, it's a cool fanning deck, but the design's just lazy. They couldn't have done something else with the face cards?

I absolutely agree with you here. Bruce Lee's one of my all time heroes.. but this deck is ridonculous. I think this tops every other D$D deck in terms of absolute shittiness. Very disappointed. Especially as it's the representation of an official release with the Bruce Lee foundation. Simply laughable.

EDIT: The tuck case is nice though.. so if D$D makes this a rare release (which they will as there is no way in hell this will sell on a regular basis and become their staple product), then i guess all of you collectors that don't open decks have somewhat of a decent reason to buy it.

Even if it was only about 10 or 12 dollars, this deck is a resounding "meh".

Just seems like a bunch of art was splattered onto a card template without rhyme or reason. The indices overlap the art on some, and don't on others. Some cards have the same amount of figures as their value, others don't. Even the theme of the suits lacks consistency.

The back is a lazy 1-way, the printer isn't specified, and the price tag is ludicrous.

I find it hilarious that you're judging an obviously artistic centred deck with the norms of a regular deck of playing cards. That's ridiculous. I take offence personally when people like you blatantly state that it "just seems like a bunch of art was splattered onto a card template without rhyme or reason", especially when it is very obvious (at least to a graphite illustrator like myself) how much time and effort was put into the expression, proportion and intricacy of every single illustration. You have absolutely no idea.

Sure, a community like us playing card fanatics would love to see creators that are knowledgable with our niche hobby. A 2 way back would be nice (and easily achievable with the current design). Refinements with the indices would be preferable (also easily achievable), and the lack of printer disclosure simply demonstrates that the creator does not know the importance of USPCC printing. Her project is entirely artistic based.

The price tag is definitely up there for a product with such an elastic demand. But that's about the only point i agree with you on.

In this case, to be honest i don't think the cut out benefits the aesthetics of the deck very much. Personally i would have preferred a standard tuck. There is not enough colour/pattern distinction between the black tuck and the black card back. With Paul's Aurum decks, the cut out was stunning and worked beautifully as there was a very clear contrast of colours. I just don't think the idea translated well in this case.

With that being said, the feel of the Legends is one of my favourite. I'm definitely interested in getting these. Would any American be kind enough to purchase an extra 1-2 as i'd rather not get raped by high International shipping fees =(

Too many good releases.. not enough moolah..

« on: November 20, 2013, 08:19:08 AM »
Wow, that's a great Holiday incentive program from Ellusionist. That deck seems to have a "Gatsby" look to it.

I agree. Too bad none of them depict Gatsby himself. I still remember last year in year 12 how intense we anal-ysed (pun intended) all of the themes and motifs etc etc. Great book, one of my favourites.

Hmm now that i think of it, a deck based on the roaring 1940s with old money/new money (Kings), Poor people who fucked up the american dream (Jacks) and the various women (Queens), loosely based on The Great Gatsby, would be a very very interesting deck. Just imagine Daisy as the Queen of Hearts.. Gatsby as the suicide King (Motifs towards his unrequited love etc), Tom as the King of Spades (old money, the winner in the end) , Owl eyes with his stunning greenish glowing glasses as one of the Jokers... Man that could actually be a stunning stunning deck..

Actually, i feel quite impulsive tonight.. Also did just finish my exams for the year so i have a 3month break. Hmm maybe i could attempt to take on a experimental project like this! Thoughts thoughts..

PS: Oh wow thanks for changing my name again ALEXANDER. xoxo

Hey folks, thanks for all your kind comments and support!    Friday was pretty epic.  Except for the forums, I didn't advertise the site going live to anyone on Friday.  I didn't even give a time really, but wow did it take off.  I'm glad everyone who missed out previously has since gone to the site to pick up a few.

There is a little confusion (based on messages I've received).  Both decks are limited editions, meaning this is the only print of these decks in these boxes.  I couldn't call  the red "Special Edition" an LE simply because they both were LE's.  So once these are gone...they are really gone!

Have no fear, two more decks planned in the Whispering Imps series...more to come.

(this same info will be posted on UC)

Aww crap i never saw the general release! =( (Stupid exams..) Any chance i could still land a 2deck pack Chris? ;p

Erik has revised the front tuck box design. To be honest i didnt think there was any need. In fact, frankly, i think the new revised version detracts from the elegance previously captured in the original design.

I think this is a gorgeous deck. Don't like the fact that printing numbers were not disclosed though.. which more likely than not ultimately means a pretty large print run (at least a few thousand, compared to the 700 original fatboys that were available to the international market)

Are you sure that didnt have anything to do with this? ;)
