A new deck is soon to be released in the UK called Year of the Snake. They are being created for the Ace of Wales Playing Card Company. I dont know many details of the deck yet, but the creators are hoping to have them out on sale in 2-3 weeks. I have a few photos for you guys to have a look at.

Im not entirely sure on the finish of the cards, but they have been described as a mix between Bicycle and Pr1mes.

Find them on Facebook for updates!

  • I like birds.

  • Kickstarter:
It looks kind of... tacky.
Sure, the concept is ok, but there's really no "wow" factor for me. The queen looks cartoony, and the texture on the snake is atrocious. very poor execution.

I must say, I'm not too hyped for this deck.

EDIT: The more I look at it, the more grainy and half-assed it looks. Ugh.

I have to go with you on that.  Not attractive.  And what's up with the Chinese ideograms on the indices?

Chris, how's the performance?

Seriously, this looks designed in MSPaint.

I feel like I'm back to the 90s when Cliparts and WordArt were awesome.

I'm not sure why but I did expect much more when opening this thread. I honestly thought I would be wowed. Unfortunately this deck is not the least but attractive. I don't think all designs need to be hand drawn but made on the computer with what looks like little effort? Too bad....

Looking forward to another deck related to the Chinese culture. However, what a disappointment. The only nice deck is Fulton Chinatown Playing Cards.

Were that true, it would be a sad statement, indeed...  That was a disappointing deck.  The Oriental deck was better, the Kickstarter for the SiShou - Four Beasts deck was so many times better.  The Ren deck was awesome, although it was more Japanese-themed, but it was made in Taiwan, as far as I know, if not mainland China.  Even the Bicycle Serpent deck was better.  But perhaps that's just me...  :))

I will say that this would probably be one of the few decks I'd find more disappointing than Fulton's Chinatown.  It's a shame, because the company itself looks like it's trying to be a great thing for deck collectors in the UK, even though the selection's a bit limited at the moment.  Easy to sell a great deck, not so easy to make one...

The Chinatowns had a nice design but I hate the color on them. Orange?!? My understanding is that a deep red is more so the color of choice for the Chinese culture. I wouldn't mind swing a full series of decks based on the Chinese zodiac but it has to be done nicely of course.

Bicycle Chinese Zodiac already exists, and with Bicycle Serpent it looks like they're working on a series - but USPC isn't always known for follow-through...

Ah yes that does sound familiar now. But then again that's my point. I'd like to see a series but if USPCC isn't absolutely, one hundred percent bent on finishing that project then we might not see one unless someone else is willing to do so.

Considering their growth in the Chinese marketplace, I think they have some incentive to complete a series - though it would take twelve years.

yes, they could have done better with the box but actually bright red fits our chinese culture, not deep or dark red.

Bright red is one thing, orange-red is something different, especially when it looks more orange than red.  The deck barely had any connection to the culture, as far as I could tell.

Couldn't agree more. And what a great deck Fulton's Chinatow is. I just love it! And also love the mentioned Oriental deck. They're some of my most favorite ones.

Actually Brad Fulton had the year of the snake deck prototype printed but said it was never gonna be released. He also mentioned that there is a white clip joint prototype deck. These can all be seen here --->http://instagr.am/p/U2py8qunRd/

Its has! The dragons, the firecrackers (jokers) and the Chinese lantern are all related. I'm pure Chinese bro, trust.
But okay, they could have done more to the court cards.

You should mentioned that the photo is yours, but that the commentary has a conversation between you and Brad Fulton.  It's actually an interesting read.
