This is just a pretty deck I picked up on eBay this week. It is the first gold or gilt edge deck I have acquired, though any semblance of that fact is long gone.

Do you know the age of the deck?  Would you mind showing us a few of the faces?  Always good to have references as to what older decks looked like at different periods.

Marguerites made early 1900's to about 1930. They had maybe 30 different backs. This is a very collectible one. They depicted flowers and women mainly on the back design. It was a high quality brand.

I am unsure of the exact age because the AOS code is not in a decipherable format. Here are the court cards without a joker unfortunately.

Sometimes you can make estimates and inferences based on things other than the Ace of Spades.  Things like the exact court designs used and the size of the indices will sometimes offer visual cues that would help you narrow it down.

Using modern cards as an example, if you found a Bicycle deck, something off-the-shelf, with "Perfect Pips", you'd know it as probably made circa the latter years of the aughts 2000s or so.  It would apply to a lesser extent to decks like the Bicycle Masters and some other custom decks, but for something like the Smoke and Mirrors series, Perfect Pips were used through the sixth edition, which I think was 2012.

I need to invest in a Hochman Encyclopedia which would help me with a lot of these card-dating issues. Perhaps soon.

If you want to try to collect all back varieties, I have a couple spare decks.  (Roses and Tulips). They are gently used, most of the gold still on the edges, boxes in great condition, etc.  i may throw them up on eBay next week...
