The latest variety box. Now with a new design!

http://shop.dananddave.com/variety-box.html

This one has

Vintage Plaid*
Fraggle Rock
Misc Goods*
Smoke & Mirrors: Carbon
Arrco® Tahoe*
Bicycle® Skull & Bone*
Clip Joint, Private Reserve Label
White Lions*
Artisan*
Fournier 605*
Legends*
Ultimate Deck

The * means that there's color variations.

What do you guys think? There's definitely some nice decks in there (I'm so happy Misc. goods is getting into the mainstream card websites!). But I REALLY love the box. Amazingly classy.

Oh, a little price calculation.

Vintage Plaid = $7
Fraggle Rock = $10
Misc Goods = $15
Smoke & Mirrors: Carbon = $25 (best offer on ebay)
Arrco Tahoe = $12
Bicycle Skull & Bone = $8
Clip Joint, Private Reserve Label = $30
White Lions = $8 (assuming it's series B. Lowest listing on ebay)
Artisan = $7
Fournier 605 = $11
Legends = $7.50
Ultimate Deck = $25

If you paid for all of them individually (not counting the king's ransom for shipping, or cheaper prices via resellers) you'd be shelling out $142.50. That's not counting the Clip Joint.

The box comes to $150, so I guess you'd be paying about &7.50 for the Private Reserve and the killer box. Plus consolidated shipping.

Not the best deal, but I guess it's alright.

Ok, total updated is $165. Now it's beginning to look pretty reasonable.

Private reserves were sold for $30. I love the design of the box but there hasn't been a box since that has matched the contents of the v1.

  • Pick a card, any card...no, not THAT card!

MrMollusk - you made a slight calculation error.  You listed "Split Spades" when the VB actually has "White Lions" instead.  I'd wager they're Series B or Black Label simply because I think more were printed.  If they're Series A, it's most likely just blue Series A, since the other colors were more rare.

Wait, REALLY? I copied and pasted that from the D&D website! I'll fix it.

I checked their site - it said "White Lions" as well!  Perhaps there was a typo earlier and they fixed it?

That's probably it. Posted this like 2 minutes after it appeared on their site.

the 3 most valuable decks are their own, making up about half the approximated value as above. One can guess how much they are making off this variety box.

Very observant.  And they're probably selling only the red and black Misc. Goods Co. decks - the ones that didn't sell out on Kickstarter.  $15 bucks on Tyler Deeb's site.

The entire Variety Box concept has steadily gone downhill from the first version, the only exception being the Vintage VB - and that was, I think, one-of-a-kind.  But when you consider how card collecting has taken off, it's probably a bit difficult getting really good, sold-out decks in quantities of 144 without buying them before they became sell-outs.
