I grabbed one, just couldn't resist seeing what this first pass at a black stock deck ends up like. They are certainly pricey, so I don't imagine they will be an instantaneous sell out. A year ago we might have seen that happen but lots of collector are more picky these days.

27
Thanks for the tip Don. And no, wasn't much interested in the handling on those, just an appreciate of the art. :)

I'd really like to add one of the original, black box Split Spades to my collection. I don't care about the color of the cards. I've seen them on eBay for $50-100 which personally feels high, but I'm willing  to pay a fair price or trade for any Encarded items.

Would obviously prefer a sealed, pristine deck.

Last chance for some of these one-of-a-kind Encarded things! Don’t miss them, as I certainly don’t have any more of these and the auctions are closing soon.

Sorry, but this is a classic, basically stereotypical example of why you need to spend time building your skills and studying the market before launching a project. The theme is certainly unique (since when do scandinavia and mexico get together?) but the art we see here is no where near the refined level it should and could be.

We all start somewhere, but the unfortunate byproduct of crowdfunding is that too many people are at step 5 of 1000 in their design careers but think they can just launch stuff out there anyways. Instead of the attitude of "meh, let's see what happens..." it should be "This is the finest work I've ever done and I can't wait for people to see this!"

Step it up folks...

What is the significance of the 10 and 11 on the card backs?

it's a partial view of a clock face, with "52" replacing the normal 12. I could come up with some complex bs but it's really quite simple. :)

If you guys miss out on those, you could always, oh I don't know....by some cards with some actual design that might not bore you to death.

I've heard that Encarded place has some interesting offerings.

:D

It was a pleasure to work on this one. Here are some more good shots of the deck that I took.

The Source - Card Collecting 101 / Re: How to make cards?
« on: July 24, 2015, 01:30:26 PM »
"Making" playing cards encompasses a LOT of things, from concepts and design to marketing to fulfillment to customer service. It's neither easy nor quick and certainly not a way to make a quick buck, which I gather is the impression held by many these days. Now if you want to just make one deck for yourself, that's another story.

This is not to discourage you, but to give you pause. Making a deck is great and rewarding, but it will take up many months of your life to do right, cost a large amount of money and comes with the expectations of your customers that you will deliver and support your work. I've been doing this for a number of years now, and if you'd told me at the start that I'd spend $40,000 in postage in a few years time I would have laughed. The deck itself is but a small part, so spend the time to research all the other aspects so that you neither you or your potential customers end up frustrated.

36
You definitely need to visit for a bit Chris! You will learn so much about the history and collecting of cards, it's really cool to talk with the long time collectors.  I'd love to buy you a drink and chat if you can make it.

37
Looking forward to it! I've not had a chance to chat with Mark before, I'll be interested to learn a bit more about him and his style. So many of the market favorites came from his pencil, it'll be a treat to meet him.

The convention is always a great time if you love cards, their history and the process that goes into making them. And of course if your collection is a little too small right now, hitting up the trading room for hours on end will fill the void.

This deck really doesn't need to exist, and certainly doesn't need to be hyped. The theme has been done, more than once. Sigh. I have put more effort into the barely visible background pattern of a single card than this entire deck must have had.

That's outrageous... shipping for just ONE deck to the UK is 20 dollars?! Lol.

Ignoring the dumb price of the deck....yes if you wrap up one deck nice and secure and put it in a USPS flat rate small box, postage alone is $20.  :(   (go ahead, ask me how I know this, says the guy who's spent about $8000 in postage the last two weeks...)

According to one of my customers who was seeking out a deck on eBay, my signature is worth $14. :D

In my experience, most people who want a signature do so purely for themselves, to have a little "personal" connection to the person that made the deck.

A bit later today a limited batch of the new Tendril cards, along with an extremely limited number of accessories, will be in the Encarded.com store for preorder. These items will ship in just a few weeks, after the Kickstarter fulfillment is complete. If you missed the Kickstarter, now is your best chance! Watch for the email and announcement on social media for the exact time.

Final tuckbox samples are in. USPCC's tuck printer did quite a nice job, particularly on the crazy detailed foil on Ascendant.

I really couldn't give a single hoot about the tarot aspect of this, but Chris is an amazing artist and generally great guy, so getting it just for the quality of the art is mainly where I'm coming from.

44
I checked this out today because I was curious about the individually printed tuck boxes (which would have been MPC, so a digital print from a template) but the project has been cancelled.

With roughly 1.5 million followers between Youtube and Facebook, the fact that this deck hasn't funded yet is all that needs to be said about the design.

Based on my personal experience, if my fanbase was approximately 500x bigger like his is, my decks would sell out in seconds. So clearly something is not working well for that deck. Not to mention that with nearly 700k Youtube subscribers his ad revenue should be quite serious (see the documentary "Please Subscribe" for examples of people living off their youtube revenue with less subscribers than he has), certainly enough to self fund a small print run deck.

Chris is very talented and I'll give him support on this one for sure. These look great!

Is it just me, or do these look like they are 3D/engraved onto metal. If this is just a printed proto, I can tell that I am going to be blown away by the actual cards. Very, very nice work! Thank you for your effort!
Agreed.  One if the most beatifully vibrant designs I have ever seen.   When and where can I get some?   :)

Thanks guys. It was fun working on adding some "dimensionality" to these. I imagine that the full out USPCC press will result in some really nice pop of both these designs. These two will be a Kickstarter and probably will appear within a few weeks. I'm building the campaign now and adding in all those details.

I don't understand why there are so many words in this thread. It is incredibly simple:

If he is ignoring you, the customer, then he's simply being a punk.

Customer service is not always easy to DO, but it is easy to UNDERSTAND. Follow through and get people what they pay for, it's not complicated. In these days of social media there are like 10 ways to get a hold of anyone, so it takes effort to purposefully ignore a customer.

Here is another little shot of the tuck. It will have some clean embossing and foil. I enjoy designing boxes so my plan is that if I do a new edition someday, the cards will be mostly the same but I'll do a completely different box just so I have the chance to try new ideas. This one though is pretty cool; rather minimal and clean, with a little vibe of vintage to it. The little bit of foil really pops nicely to raise it above a super-basic "staple" deck.
