I need to research this one some more. It is by far the earliest Crehore deck that i've seen... the courts are very different from all the Crehore decks i've examined..much more crude. I've never seen a deck with 15 Stars above the eagle... only 13. The stock is very thick compared to all the others i've seen... any thoughts/comments are welcome...
Another slightly different Crehore Ace. Don't think 15 stars is significant. For example U2 has 16 stars. Also U6 has 15. More Crehore Aces have appeared as will be seen in the next edition of Hochman.

If the stars correspond to the states of the Union at the time the deck was made (or the number of stars on Old Glory), it could really help date a deck.

That is a theory - but it doesn't seem to work

Easy come, easy go...  It was worth a thought, I guess.  Would have been really convenient if it did work, though!

Tom, i agree that the number of stars is probably not important, but i'm still convinced that it is an extremely early Crehore deck. It is unlike any of the many i've handled over the years especially where the courts and paper stock is concerned... As Don said concerning the number of stars....I still like to think that it could have been made between 1792-96 when Kentucky was the 15th state before Tennessee was admitted to the Union as the 16th state... who knows...wishful thinking :)

Wishful thinking indeed. Hard to know the date but you've seen lots of early 19th century cards so you could be pretty close.
