People say nothing's impossible, but I do nothing everyday.

Today I found something that reminded me of you. But don't worry I flushed and everything went back to normal.

It will have its full launch in April. Since today is our 1-year anniversary, we thought it was an appropriate time to make the initial announcement.  Additional sneak peeks will be offered in the coming weeks.

Like I said in the other thread...

You will be able to approach them with your playing card ideas.. if they like it.. they will form a "partnership" with you to have them produced.

That's what I'm assuming

That would be awesome! I'd really enjoy that because I have a lot of deck idea but no photoshop skills.

Speculation is a lot of fun! But remember, on the web these days it's very easy for speculation to turn into rumor, which winds up turning into 'fact'.

Speculate and enjoy, but keep in mind that we might surprise you in one way or another!

This means there would be a lot of decks coming out?
I'm both happy and sad.
How can I find enough money for every decks? T-T

I would pretty much guarantee I'm spot on with this.  This will be a new platform for artists without the funds to bring their decks to life... with the Blue Crown taking a cut of course.  It's smart business!

Can't wait to see the line-up of decks that will come

I met Kevin at lunch yesterday and can't discuss the details.  HOPC is going to be a BIG idea, bigger than you're picturing.  I want to (but can't) say more, but trust me when I say they aren't exaggerating about HOPC being a game changer for the custom card market.  No hyperbole, seriously.

If this project is, indeed, helping designers create decks, this will be exactly what is needed.  More than the financial side of producing a deck (although the financial part is major) designers need someone who knows what is possible using USPCC and how (and when) to make decisions involving the deck production. An ombudsman, if you will.  This will speed through the timeline and reduce initial errors in decision making.
If The Blue Crown is willing to provide this service to designers, it will be the best thing that has happened to the craft in a very(!) long time.  While Kickstarter is a great service, it does not help the designer with the actual decisions about the card deck.
While I detest the sales policies of The Blue Crown, this will be the greatest thing since the Lithograph press.

This would be great for the designers as well, Woth TBC they could reach a wider audience with their designs, I didn`t even know about kickstarter until the Vortex deck.

I'll probably just leave off this thread. Sometimes I think it's better to just let the mystery build and allow yourself to be carried along naturally through the medium it was intended, rather than just speculate from subtle hints and cues.

Although, I guess many of us here are magicians - so naturally our first thought is to rationalise and speculate about things that are unknown to us! I'll just let my subscription to the website and liking their Facebook page to feed me the information though. Look forward to the website opening in April!

House of Playing Cards will be launching on May 8th at 8pm EST!  :D

On the contests page, this was said: "The prize for each contest is a brick (12 decks) of cards of your choice from any of the decks we offer at launch! "
Sounds like they will be selling cards right at the launch!

They are holding contests where you can win bricks of the decks that will be on the site: http://www.facebook.com/events/217915694978540/

Thanks,

I can't find the contests either, the links I tried just go to my own Facebook Events page...

The red one looks new to me... but the other deck is the Americana deck from Circle City Cards. Any ideas on the connection? CCC may be working with HOPC?

TBC has been 101% cool and customer-focused imho so I will definitely support whatever initiative they come out with.

Hopefully they will consider a DOTM subscription so that I can drop DnD's once it has expired.

That would be a sweet idea. It would be nice to see one through another company's eyes, especially one so customer-oriented as BC. Also it would allow us to have more good decks rather tons of crappy ones, bees, D&D products, and 3 or 4 good ones.
On a side note, you can't access the contests through that link, you have to visit HOPC's fb page to see them.

@Nathan, NOC looks to be the name of a new deck that will be put through HOPC.

I've been wanting a deck with just a completely plain, solid color and white border for a while now! I definitely won't get all of the colors but the one I will definitely get a lot of, is the purple one!

(Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, Purple)

I am really hoping that the faces are custom but if not, standard faces and a plain back is perfect for magic!

Why? Umm... not sure there's a way to answer that. I guess they both liked the idea and both pursued it without knowing that each other was doing the same. At least its different colors. And the faces and box are completely different probably.

It's a strange trend to suddenly appear out of nowhere. Very practical and useful for certain situations but quite a long ways from what everyone generally seems to enjoy these days. Well timed? Or not?  I guess time will tell.

I don`t get why people are going to buy decks that take 2 minutes to make (Probably Less). This trend has to be the most pointless thing I have ever seen. We all like the decks that people put all those hours into and make beautiful. But we dont like decks that have empty spots, or are not very detailed. But all these people like a 1-color square box on a deck?! That is just stupid to me. :o

Here is a deck I am selling, it took me 30 seconds to make, and I will be selling them for $7 a deck. Any Takers?

I don`t get why people are going to buy decks that take 2 minutes to make (Probably Less). This trend has to be the most pointless thing I have ever seen. We all like the decks that people put all those hours into and make beautiful. But we dont like decks that have empty spots, or are not very detailed. But all these people like a 1-color square box on a deck?! That is just stupid to me. :o

Here is a deck I am selling, it took me 30 seconds to make, and I will be selling them for $7 a deck. Any Takers?
Sure, its not hard to design it when its a solid color. But can you sell a deck that has a solid back with no faces? Have you even seen the faces of either the NOC decks or the Mystery deck? Do you know how much effort was put into designing the faces of either decks?

No I don't but for all we know it is standard faces. I wouldn't doubt it is either standard or slightly recolored faces. The Ace of spades is probably a blank ace the color of the deck.
People say nothing's impossible, but I do nothing everyday.

Today I found something that reminded me of you. But don't worry I flushed and everything went back to normal.

Aaron, not only do you not know what the faces and box look like, but also the back design has some gradients and probably took more than 30 seconds to make (color choice, gradients etc).

Exactly! For all we know, it's standard faces. Meaning that we don't know anything except what the back design looks like!

I am just going off what I see at this time. If it is spectacular faces, I would buy some. Just with what I see now I'm not impressed with the deck.  :)

Also Gradients take maybe another 30 seconds on top of the other 30 to add. And they just picked 5 popular colors. So like 1 minute to make each back design.

AHHH WHY! Why do they need so many colors of these! ;) Haha these better have BEAUTIFUL faces. ::)

I am actually very interested to see what this HOPC will be, it seems like some kind of site that will release several different decks from various designers, like KS but only good designs.

These NOC decks seem pretty simple if not too simple. I think they'd be more visually appealing if at the edge of the solid colour some shadowing was added.

The NOC deck is meant to be intentionally simple, and will be a "staple deck" of the HOPC lineup.  It's the equivalent of the blue and red Master Edition Bikes at E.

FYI: they're perfect for poker nights.  The solid back leaves no place to conceal visible markings.  Pro poker players prefer a simple back to a complex one.

I'm both happy and sad.
How can I find enough money for every decks? T-T

I know exactly how you feel every single time a new announcment here goes up about new decks and what not. :(

So if they are staple decks then it should be okay then. But if they are going to cost as much as custom decks then ..... >.>....
It would be a nice change of staple decks with simple designs. But will take a bit of getting used too.

Hey everyone.  The NOC is intentionally simple.  Both HOPC and the NOC decks have been in development for at least 6 months. Any similarity between what we're doing and what any other company is doing appears to be a coincidence and a case of weird timing.

HOPC and Bedeceived are doing their own separate things. We wish Colin luck with his deck.

There are a lot of applications for decks, and different reasons that a person may want to buy or not buy a deck. We know that the collector market is very focused on fully customized decks.  Don't worry, we'll have you covered.

Just because the design is a solid color, does not mean that we did not put any time or thought into the design. It is not a complicated design. But we spent quite a lot of time going over a Pantone book to choose exactly which shades we wanted. We put a bunch of time figuring out our tuck, Ace of Spades, and Jokers to maintain the simple theme, while still being attractive.

Many people, such as magicians, flourishers, poker players, etc, have different desires in a deck.  The NOC is designed to be a working deck. Something bold and simple that can be used to put attention on the trick, flourish, or game, not on a fancy design.  It also makes a nice fashion accessory, lol! :)

For the first run of NOC decks, because we have so many colors, we could only make so many of each. So there will definitely be a certain collectability to them.

Different decks will always have different audiences. The great thing about today's card market is CHOICE.  We have so much available to us, we can buy the ones that appeal to us, and pass on the ones that don't.

HOPC will offer decks with a variety of styles, themes, and levels of complexity.  From the bold and simple NOC decks to decks that are fully customized, like we did with the Vaudeville deck on The Blue Crown.  It's practically impossible to make a custom deck that will appeal equally to magicians, flourishers, card players, collectors, etc across the board.

One thing is for sure - nothing like HOPC has ever been done before, and you won't want to miss what we have planned.

I think this is very interesting for us, but maybe not so for the 2 companies.

It's nice to compare cards from them both and the only thing to compare visually are their faces, which I can't wait to check out, I always liked the simpler backs with awesome faces.

IMO whoever has an inferior product visually will get many unfavourable comments. This will be too close for comfort for the "loser".......

The Jerry's post has got me hanging on the edge of my seat. I still wish I had bought some when I first started collecting and they were much cheaper than they are now, I honestly never thought a simple deck of cards could go higher than that price at the time! I hope I can scoop some up, those cards are one of the reasons I got into card collecting back in '06, which just makes me feel old even though I am still relatively young haha.

And there's 5 colors apparently!

It would be nice if companies didn't wait until the last minute to unveil their sites though. The seasonsplayingcards.com did the same thing.

We've known that there are 5 colors for a week now. And the site is:
http://houseofplayingcards.com/
We've known that for 2 weeks. They have a newsletter as well.
And we knew about the Seasons website 2 weeks before hand as well. I'm not sure where you've been.

Although we knew about seasonsplayingcards.com for two weeks when it was published there were a number of problems making it so many people, including yourself, unable to get some.

Gah!!!!! I checked out as a guest because I thought it would be quicker, but at the end (after I completed my order) it told me that I wouldn't get any points because I didn't make an account. Is there anyway I can make an account and have these points still apply? It would have been nice if there was a notification about not receiving points if you checked out as a guest BEFORE I completed my order...

Perhaps it's just me, but I think this site was over-hyped. With exception to the whole "Create your own cards" concept, there's nothing really new here. Just a couple of new decks and a rehash of a few others. So much for being "like no other". That, and what kind of company doesn't show pictures of the deck faces (for NOC)?? Make me think they're the same faces as the crown decks (which weren't really great from the start).

I absolutely love the layout of the website! It screams of "cleanliness" and professionalism. The prices aren't outrageous like other sites, and the variety is nothing like I've seen before. The site is very maneuverable and organized so that anyone can find what they are looking for. The site is truly amazing, but I even think that phrase wouldn't even tell about the site to its extent. The fact that you allowed us to gain points and coupons based on ad cards is wonderful. If it were up to me, the hype was totally worth it and I can't wait to see what wonders you have coming up in store. :D

P.S. - Are you able to use the Blue Crown store account instead of creating a new, separate HOPC account?

Hey guys!  Thanks for all of the comments.  I'm sure you can imagine, we are quite busy right now - there are always kinks to work out!

Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but we think our Deck Submission program is extremely innovative and exciting for the industry.  Crunch your own numbers, and I think you'll see that our program is VERY attractive opposed to using Kickstarter, putting up your own funds, etc.

Shipping is expensive these days.  Have you looked at the price of fuel?  Our shipping rates our based on actual USPS rates.  Often we use flat rate where possible, so while it can be a little expensive for a couple of decks, it saves on large orders.  We charge very little for handling.  Trust me, we are not making a profit on our shipping rates.

I'm always happy to help however I can, but if you have any issues, please make sure you send an email to info@houseofplayingcards.com rather than messaging me here on the forums.  Going through our official channels will get you the quickest response.

I totally agree. Although I know I'll regret it later, I won't pick up the NOC decks or any other deck for sale there. I find the site very well thought out, and the ideas brilliant. I also picked up the free flourishes video, because, although I know how to perform them all, I just want to see Alex Pandrea's take on the flourishes and his way of teaching them. I don't really understand the "video" category though.

HOPC is a totally separate site from The Blue Crown as far as purchasing is concerned.  You will need an account on each site to make purchases.  HOPC has some unique features (such as the points system) that are not implemented on The Blue Crown

You should definitely check out the vid on their Facebook then, they will have other stuff also.

Ok. I just realized I can't access the site through Google Chrome. It works through Safari though.

Really, I was able to access it on Chrome.

I got 2 purple, 2 red, and 2 blue NOC decks!
What did you get?

I got 2 of each color! Would have gone 3 each color but then it would have ended up costing me like $100.

Reylek, any reasons as to why you've made this a completely different site from thebluecrown.com?

The CYOD idea is a good one imo, I may be tempted to use it myself if it's open to international peeps. I dont think I'll be buying the NOC decks because there are many other decks I want that imo are better, simplistic is nice sometimes but simplistic like the black crown box or ltd deck, the NOC decks remind me of friar casino decks which I own and do like but not enough to buy these. Maybe it's because I only practice flourishes and no magic but I prefer a nicely detailed deck to look at while flourishing but I see the uses for magic. I was expecting more from the jerrys nugget hint.

Yeah i'd like to know too, why a new site was needed? Why not just use thebluecrown.com instead of creating a new site?

I asked Kevin about that and he said that the faces are "Standard USPC faces and colors, with the exception of our custom Ace of Spades and Jokers"

I think it would have been nice if we had seen the sides and back of the box as well as the Joker. According to the site, the faces are standard, but the jokers and AoS are custom. They've shown us most of the box, the backs and the AoS, why not also show the jokers?

Am I really the only one who's having trouble with this??? $35 shipped for five of the most mediocre, basic, nothing decks... No design elements whatsoever... Oh I forgot - A minimalist approach - give me a break... Studied Art History... Been to all the Museums in NYC dozens of times and the Louvre twice...

Is this what I waited for the House of Playing Cards for?  For them to pimp their ridiculous decks?  And I do not read one critique in these posts... not one?  Just collector after collector talking about how much $$$ they're giving HOPC for these silly NOPC... Which stands for what exactly? NO (Design) Playing Cards, NO (Effort) Playing Cards? I'm going to go with NO (way in hell am I giving a dime of my hard earned money to these @$$) Playing Cards...

Really? No one's with me on this one???

I am, I think I got caught in the hype when I bought these. :( Now that I think of it these have NO customization to them at all.

Hahaha... the design is so minimal that I do not see it as paying $4.50 for a deck of cards. I see it as paying $4.50 to buy a lottery ticket for a chance to win a Jerry's Nuggets.  8)

At least the price is not $10+ a deck for so little customization. So they are quite practical.

At $4.50 a deck, the NOC are cheap but not so cheap I'd envision buying dozens for use by a performing magician. The plainness of them does not appeal to me personally and since I have plenty of decks to use I won't be getting any. A minimalist deck with sweet, minimized court designs would be very appealing, but if they are all standard Bicycle then I'll pass.

The create your deck part will be a boon for designers that don't have the marketing/web/biz savvy to get a full deck together and sell it. I do not in the least envy the staff at HOPC though. With the huge volume of highly questionable "design" we see on Kickstarter, I think they will spend a lot of time shaking their head in disbelief and having to explain why the latest deck design simply won't work.

HOPC will take some time to mature but will be cool down the road. There are some advantages for designers going that route like CCC did for Americana. However, giving up 30% of your profit primarily with assistance in shipping might be a little much. For now I think I'll go it alone and maintain full control over my design, product and marketing. Taken together, it can be a lot of work to take a deck from nothing to shipped out, but each part is easily doable with proper organization. If you don't have the time or inclination to work through those things, then HOPC will be great. That's my take at the moment, but that could easily change someday depending on how the market develops.

Premium bike stock is actually really good, I think. The stock used for custom decks is better than the one used for rider backs; add to that better quality control and the durability boost of magic finish, and you've got yourself a really nice deck.

As for the design, I think sometimes we have to accept minimalism as something more than laziness. I personally love them and at this price, I consider it worth it.
That said, I didn't get any because international shipping is a b****. ::)

Yeah, I don't get it. I wasn't a huge fan of the simple back design to begin with, but was willing to overlook that if the faces had a lot of effort put into them. But it's only a custom ace of spades and jokers? I know it's only $5, but I'd rather spend a little more on something that looks like it had more effort put into the design.

this is crazy !! $5 for a custom ace of spades and jokers .. the box look very simple and i like it but the back design i do not really like it .. but i will be getting a few for collection and for the contest prices.. the card stock is also just bicycle stock .. i think that the deck is only good for magician and that it .. if i really want to perform magic i would just use a riderback

I'm going to pass on the NOC deck.. Not even going to get one of each for collection purposes. I like simplicity, but like the previous two post... just custom jokers and AoS is not worth $5 IMHO. Guess I'll wait for the Mystery Deck instead.. At least they said that their faces will make the deck worth while.

I think it's just a cash cow for them...

Hey everyone.  Forgive me for not making individualized replies - quite busy with everything that's been going on in the last 16 hours!

First off - thanks to everyone for your support and comments.  It's been very gratifying to see the orders come in.  We also appreciate all of your comments, good and bad.

HOPC is a separate site from The Blue Crown because it is dedicated to cards, whereas The Blue Crown is dedicated to magic.  Interest in playing cards goes far outside the magic world (Collecting, Flourishing, Gaming, etc). So we want to keep the primary focus on the cards themselves at HOPC.

The Blue Crown will still offer decks on the main site, but the primary focus there is magic.  Likewise, HOPC offers a small handful of basic books/DVDs on the "core" areas of card interest, but the main focus will be cards.

It is a little disappointing to see that some people are equating the HOPC launch only with the NOC deck.  There is a lot more to HOPC than any single deck.

We realize that this board is primarily home to collectors, and generally customization is preferred by that particular interest group.  That is why we also have customized decks.  But keep in mind that while collectors are important, they are not our only customer base.  The NOC is a great deck for poker games, magic, flourishing, etc.  It is intended to be a simple, yet familiar face.  When you bust these out at your weekly poker game, nobody will be distracted by faces that they're not used to.

If you don't like these, or any other deck, for whatever your purpose is (collecting, magic, etc) then it's OK if you don't buy them.  I always say to buy what you like.  Different decks will always appeal to different people.

Some of you might think we're lazy, and that's OK.  We know we're not.  I would hope that our history of offering custom decks (Vaudeville, 100% custom, 10 months in the making) would show that we do indeed also know how to make custom decks, and we're far from lazy.

For the NOC stock and finish - they feel great.  And I do believe I'm the only person posting in this thread who has actually handled them.  I don't know why people all over the web these days tend to knock Bicycle stock.  It's really quite good.  But again, that also comes down to personal preference.  Some people like softer, more flexible stock.  Others like a really thick and stiff stock.  I find that Bike stock offers a really good middle ground.  Different strokes for different folks.

In regards to pricing of decks and cost of shipping - It costs a lot of money to make decks, and we feel we price them quite fairly.  To USPC, a custom back is a custom back.  Doesn't matter how complex the design is.  The NOC is a custom deck.  In fact, it also has the first tuck to be printed inside and out at USPC.  Previously, any tucks with printing on the inside had to be done by an outside 3rd party.  USPC is now doing this in-house, and we were happy to be the first to utilize this process.

We also offer a heck of a lot of ways to get stuff.  Our new Ad Card Advantage system lets you get discounts, we're going to be giving away Jerry's Nuggets all year.  Yes, you have more chances to win if you buy stuff, but everyone can enter for free.  Each of our 4 decks has 3 raffle prizes (12 prizes in all), which can also be won without making a purchase.  And this isn't mentioned on the site yet, but we will be randomly picking 1 review each month to receive a discount coupon, so make sure you post some reviews!

We hate shipping.  It's our least favorite aspect of what we do.  Not the act of it, but the costs.  Our warehouse space is not free, nor does our shipping team work for free.  We use actual table rates from USPS, and often use flat rate when available.  We have a modest handling fee.  We never profit from shipping costs, and often lose money on it.  With that said, we know it's frustrating to have a large sum of shipping tacked onto your order.  We're  always looking for ways to offer more affordable shipping options.  But please keep in mind this involves a lot more than the cost of shipping itself.  We have to think about site implementation, how options work for a global audience, how it will affect the processes within the warehouse, etc.

We feel that the "meat" of the site is our program for working with designers.  The profit share we are doing is unheard of in the custom card world, and designers never send us one dime.  I use myself as a personal example.  I have self-funded and produced 2 decks over the past few years.  And my future decks will very likely be done through HOPC.  We feel that the fact that people do not have to front any money is awesome.

If you compare what we're doing with the Kickstarter process, I think it's a no-brainer.  With most kickstarter decks, the deck is sold out before it's even printed.  People who find out about the deck after the fact are out of luck.  For the creator, you're tasked with not only designing the deck, but also spreading the word about your KS project, hoping it is successful, and then storing/shipping all of the decks yourself.  By the time you subtract the cost of the run, KS and Amazon fees, and postage, your profits are pretty slim.

I have crunched the numbers in a variety of different ways, and I think if you do the same, you'll find that our program is really offering something special.

With that said, our program is definitely geared towards the individual.  For someone who actually does want to create your own company, and doesn't mind doing the storage/shipping/etc, and you have the funds to get yourself rolling, then go for it!  We are perfectly willing to work with companies though.  Our relationship working with Circle City Cards has been great!

Before you submit a design to us, look at what we already offer.  The Americana is a perfect example of what we're looking for.  Fabulous work by Russell, this deck is amazing.  We are looking for designers who can push the envelope.

Our plan for HOPC is to launch one new deck per month.  Our next ones are awesome.  If you disliked the NOCs because they were too simple, I think you will definitely like our next decks.

Sorry for practically writing a novel here!  We are very customer/community oriented, and we know you guys give us a lot of support, so we like to be able to keep you in the loop of where we're coming from with things!

Thanks again for all of the feedback and support.  It is always appreciated!

Kakos - we're going to at least take a brief break from the future and making announcements, teasers, etc.

Right now, we're focused on making sure the site is working well, customer emails are handled, current orders are going out quickly, etc.

We'll make announcements on future products soon enough.  But for now, we're focusing on the products at hand, not the ones that will be coming later.

I didn't feel quoting your second to last post would be smiled upon because of the length but i do appreciate you addressing just about every single concern that has come up on this forum. I am very excited to see what HOPC has to offer in the very near future!

I agree completely...from the very beginning it has been clear that this deck was MEANT to be simple. If that's not something you're interested in than you don't have to buy them. The deck's were made so you can use them whenever without people thinking it's some kinda crazy tricked out deck, as well as coming in some cool colors that you don't see that often in standard looking decks.

I would also like to say that the HOPC team has fantastic customer service, and I look forward to seeing what else they plan to release in the coming months!

Kevin - I don't believe that "most" kickstarter decks sell out before they are released as sites like Circle City and Lance Millers site sell them after they get printed. Also most people here know about kickstarter and the decks there and have plenty of opportunity to pick some up before they "sell out".

Also, I think HOPC is great and so is the deck designer thing is good, for designers, but what about customers. You talk about decks selling out on kickstarter, well at least with kickstarter everyone who wants to get a deck can back the project and secure themselves some decks. But going through a site like yours on the other hand we often times lose out on decks because of limited quantities and a limited time frame to get them in. I don't know what others think but I like that about kickstarter, I always get the decks I want with little or no hassle!

So far we have had no hassles on HOPC.  All decks are still in stock and available for purchase.  Questions or issues?  Email or call us, and we'll take care of it ASAP.  Trust me, we LIKE it when people can buy our decks and they're available beyond the initial release window.  I feel that both The Blue Crown, and now HOPC, have a very good track record for our deck availability.  Yes, some have sold out incredibly quickly.  But several others have had availability for weeks or months, plenty of opportunity for anyone to purchase.

Perhaps "most" was a poor choice of wording on my part for Kickstarter projects in terms of selling out.  But certainly, the majority of KS projects only print about 5000 decks, and the majority of the run is gone, leaving a relatively small number available for sale after the fact.  Very few HOPC decks will be at the minimum print run.  We will have a lot more available for everyone.  And sure, most people on this board know about kickstarter projects.  But the card market goes far beyond any particular forum.

HOPC has a much wider advertising reach than the average individual.  This makes it easy for designers to get their names, websites, etc out there to the masses.  Forums like this definitely help in the success of KS projects, that's for sure.

HOPC will not be specializing in limited runs.  Generally speaking, as long as there is demand for a deck, we will continue to reprint it.  Of course, this will be a collaborative decision between HOPC and the designer of a particular deck.

Some people will want to stay in control of their project from start to finish.  KS is great for that.  Others want to focus on their primary love - designing.  They don't want to deal with all of the other aspects involved with selling a deck.  These are the kinds of people the program will appeal to.

Likewise with customers.  Some people like the social aspect of kickstarter.  Others don't want to pledge money now for a deck that will come out in a few months.

We're not looking to shut down kickstarter by any means.  We're simply another option, for designers and for customers.  We feel that we are a very good option.  Will our program be everyone's cup of tea?  Certainly not.  But we have already had contact from some very talented designers, and people who know the costs and efforts of running a deck (with or without kickstarter), who are all very interested in our program.

At the end of the day, our goal is to make awesome decks of cards.  That's really the bottom line.

I just wanted to lend a quick note of support to HOPC and Reylek here. While at this moment in time, I personally do not feel the need to go through HOPC for supporting my deck designs, I think it is a great opportunity for many people. The model they have is known to work (think app store) and being able to focus on design and not marketing and money is great.

As an independent designer I don't feel that I need it right now, but very well might down the road. HOPC is a great environment and will absolutely foster more interesting decks for us. Perhaps the NOC was a little risky of a intro, being so far from the norm of what we "expect" as collectors but it fits it's intended purpose well. The primary challenge I see for HOPC is getting non-card-people to know about these things (which I must say Kickstarter is rather good at).

In the end, this will be a great thing, no doubt about it, just needs some time.

Today I found something that reminded me of you. But don't worry I flushed and everything went back to normal.

I guess HOPC is the place to get the Americana deck now? It's already sold out on the Circle City Card site. I wonder if they only kept a handful of them for their own site.

I have! I love the purple deck the most. The jokers are just black stars with the word joker, but for what they set out for, it is done very successfully. These are great decks, that I reccommend everyone pick up. My review shall be up in a few days.

Hey guys.  There are still a few outstanding orders waiting to be shipped.  The initial response to HOPC has been tremendous, but it is causing some short delays in the shipping department.  The team is working overtime, sometimes until 10PM to get the packages out as quickly as possible.

Once the launch chaos dies down, any orders placed will generally ship out the same day or the day after the order is placed.

Thanks for your support, and please bear with us for the time being.  We expect the vast majority of orders to be caught up by the end of the day today.

They really are awesome! It is such a simplistic deck, it handles great, and I love how they look on display (they really pop).  I feel a lot of work was put into making this deck simple! Trust me, you will love them.

So, overhyped or underhyped in your opinion? The color of the box looks very nice in your reveal!

We only did about a week of dedicated teasers and "hype" for these, so hopefully the verdict would be under-hyped, especially since we never claimed them to be the best thing since sliced bread :)

Looking forward to seeing your review Evan!

Also, and I guess this would be difficult to tell since everything about the deck has been in text, but we actually don't call it the N-O-C deck with the separate letters, but rather rhymes with "knock".

A lot of hype is also created by collectors/magicians/cardists/card users. Many said this would be an awesome innovation, but many criticized it and said it would be useless. That's what I mean. I personally love TBC as a company because of their friendliness, down-to-earth-ness and the innovation of their products. Unlike many companies which I shall not name, you do not make too much hype for your products, which always stun. Also, the fact that you are here on these forums to discuss your plans with us shows how close you are to your customers, not a company much superior and well-above collectors and card users.

You'll note that the ad copy on the NOC product page states: "We've even included a duplicate card, which is great for magic tricks!"

Each NOC has a duplicate Queen of Hearts.  Use it however you like!!    :D

I had a hunch that's what the extra queen was for!  Will you always keep it a queen of hearts, or will you change it up on future print runs?

what other decks use Bic stock and magic finish? these feel very different to me than other decks that have been released lately. I am still breaking in my purple deck and it feels smooth, but almost sandy at the same time. I do like the feel quite a bit though.

No final decisions yet for the next printing of NOCs.  Could keep the dupe, could change it up.

Aaron, if you have emailed the team, they will take care of you ASAP.

Lots of other decks have used the Bike stock/Magic finish combo.  Yet, they all tend to feel a little different.  This is due to environmental changes, ink densities on the cards, etc.  It can be hard to predict the exact feel and handling of a deck, even if it uses the same stock and finish as another deck.  Lots of other factors determine the final feel of each deck.

Waiting on a reply :)

I have acctually noticed through even the NOC decks, some feel a little different, the darker decks (Purple, Blue) feel a little different that the bright (yellow, Red) decks. I do like the decks though, very simplistic and elegant, fun to play with.
