Anything BUT the traditional red and blue please. Your deck is a fun deck that plays with the spectrum of colours. It will be "boring" to see the traditional red or blue.

I am also thinking colours like orange, lime green, or PURPLE!  ;D

The Conversation Parlor / Re: I want to start a playing card podcast!
« on: March 04, 2015, 10:00:30 PM »
I feel that you still require some form of visual to do a podcast for cards.

At the end of the day, collecting playing cards is slightly different from card games or board games and the like. For the latter, you can talk about the gameplay, the accesories and the rules, maybe even some strategies and such, and it is easier to be formed up in someone's mind.

It is harder to talk about the design of a card and expect it to form up in someone's mind the way it is meant to be. You can talk about a intricately designed dragon back, and while some may visualize it, others may visualize a cartoon dragon from Disney or something their 3 year old drew. You can say the deck fans better or shuffles better, but how much better or what is the difference? I say it is harder to transmit this information over audio.

As far as topics - experiment.  Try different things.  You might discover something your audience never realized they'd like, but they like it a lot.  You'll never learn that by taking a poll.  Design by committee is usually a recipe for disaster, so I don't recommend using it for determining your podcast's content.

I totally agree with this. Talk about everything card related. History, present, fun facts, design, handling, manufacturer, manufacturing process, pricing, current market trend, card games, card accessories, books, artist, designer, finishes, auctions, magicians, magic tricks....the list is endless. Slowly filter out what your audiences like and do not like, and from there you could have a very entertaining podcast.

So...... I have been on a long break, but still always shopping for cards.  ;)

Found this deck in a flea market and would be very very much interested to find out more about any information, even this brand, de la rue, and also of course the "value" of this deck. I found one listing in ebay, but then again, i know never to trust the prices in ebay.

The deck is in good condition with 1 x sealed and 1 x open + good condition. Box is also in good condition except a few "brown water marks" probably from the humidity or something. In fact, my deck condition is somewhat similar to the one posted on ebay (except my box is still one piece without any "taping"), so I'm just going to use the ebay link as i am a little lazy to upload the photo.  :P

Introduce Yourself / Re: Greetings from Singapore
« on: March 02, 2015, 12:23:24 PM »
Welcome~

More and more Singaporeans are picking up this hobby, so i'm sure you will find plenty to share about among your group of friends as well.

You're in good company here, as we have a fair number of members residing in Singapore.  Many of our members there trade decks by meeting face-to-face.

That i didn't know...no one trades with me :(

Indices with no suits?  That takes minimalism too far.

It's so boring and the concept is so overdone it's practically burnt to a crisp.  Worse, it doesn't improve on what came before it in any way, shape or form.

I don't believe minimalism can be taken too far...but then again, I think people are misunderstanding what the whole concept and mindset of minimalism is. It really is not just to make it as bloody empty as possible. And by looking at his sketches, i highly doubt a lot of thought process actually went into this deck.

This is not minimalism. This is just another horribly boring and lazy deck.

I'm afraid you won't see me in on this one. I'm cool with reprints, I like reprints, just something that's a bit harder to get. Doesn't feel that long ago since I've used these decks.

I agree with Fes here. I think we can still buy these decks in the reseller market fairly easily? I do not see why a reprint is needed.

59
Surprising enough, (considering the success of previous decks) this decks are not sold out yet.

I wonder if his design has fallen off in the card market or he printed a heck load of these?

I LOVE ART DECKS!

You just gotta appreciate the decks for the design and effort behind it.
Appreciate for its creativity, its theme and concept, not just, "can i play poker with these cards?"

There are plenty of playable poker decks in the market. Sometimes, you just gotta appreciate something thought out of the box.  ;)

Can i just ask, i see that some have the red Marlboro Texan #45 with a tuck case. Is it placed in a tuck, after which goes in the slipped case? or is it a different deck/version?

Somehow this guy has a reputation of six hahaha.

Seven now. I wonder why is he even still in here?

Anyway, the deck looks much much better than expected when i first saw the title, not to mention a deck from CPC. I say it looks much better than the first version. I highly doubt it will "glow/shine" on the actual deck itself, so i'm guessing the contrast is ok.

Has ANYONE here heard of ""Soft Touch Magic Black" paper stock?

Soft touch is a grade of paper used by USPCC. Pretty good stuff.

That's something new i heard. How many different type and what's the difference?

Im honestly surprised he decided to fund it on KS instead of just selling it himself.  Maybe its more to gain following than actually fund a project?
For any and all magicians considering pledging for it, it's also noteworthy that this guy has made a name for himself ripping off guys like Wayne Houchin etc, teaching their material without permission on his youtube channel. No way in hell I'd ever support him.

I have no idea who is he......

I personally like to see yellow incorporated into a deck and am always looking to add some color to my collection but this just doesn't quite pull it off aesthetically.

Well, if it is yellow you are looking, the black scorpion deck looks like a nicer buy compared to this deck if you ask me.
(As shown by the creator himself)

The middle portion of the card back looks like a sex toy. I don't think the colour combination is bad, (bumblebees or anything black and yellow don't look horrible) but rather the proportion/ratio that each colour takes up make the whole back look horrible. I mean, the back itself isn't all that great, but the white spaces makes it worst and more obvious.

The unfilled clubs looks interesting to me actually...but either fill all the pips or leave it empty, looks weird filling to suits and leaving to suits of pips empty.

I guess this put some emphasis behind the expression, "Those who can, do; those who can't, teach."

What about those who preach?  :P

I'm out of action for a couple of weeks and i am not going through all the long posts.  :P

So i'll just glimpse through and give my opinions.

I really love the idea of the touchy-feely deck. It suits your theme and is a great novelty. Might not be super good for playing card games, but it is not meant for that purpose in the 1st place. This deck seems like a very nice and simply pleasing deck.

The biggest problem? Funding Goal is definitely too high. I am not too sure about the cost on the touchy feely decks, but probably you could try cutting a little on the standard decks. You probably put $49 on 4 decks ($12.25/deck) in hope of enticing people to get people to go for higher pledge tiers. I say just forget it. People won't give a hoot, not for $0.25 a deck from 4 to 6 decks. Rather, it makes people feel you are trying to squeeze every last dime out of them.

KS projects also requires a lot of momentum, but the high funding goal is a huge turnoff already. People see this and say it will not get funded and you lose a small percentage of your backers. Few days or a week goes by and people see the funding is not moving fast enough, and takes less notice of your deck, you probably lose another small percentage of your backers. It may not be a big deal for others, but for your high funding goal, momentum is probably a big issue.

Also as an unproven designer (not only in terms of design, but also in terms of delivery of the project) people tend to wait awhile to see how the project goes. Your project also lacks certain pledge tiers that make people commit early on in fear of losing out a good deal. Sure, you have the limited feely decks, but there is more than enough to go around at that price point. There is also no EB tiers that makes people just jump in and hold onto a good deal at the start. Also, hope you don't take this the wrong way, but $10 for a signature seems a tad too high as well. It just gives the impression that your whole project is highly priced, even though it is not necessarily so. When you have a high funding goal, people will see how you reach that goal, and scrutinize on the prices.

Like what some of the other members have mentioned, go for a single colour and go for a lower funding goal. Use EB or more limited stuff to get the early push. Use stretch goals to get the project moving, to get the second colour out, and hopefully to get your own profit moving as well.

Good luck to you. Cheers

Anyone also noticed a lot of gold and "fit for a king" is being used in E lately?

Playing Card Plethora / Re: Rise Of The Phoenix Playing Cards (KS)
« on: January 27, 2015, 09:37:39 AM »
Didnt you guys read his pledge tiers as well?

Limited to 1,000 and numbered with a hologram box seal to prove it. You will get one Rise Of The Phoenix limited deck numbered 1 of 1000.
Limited (778 of 800 remaining)
Get a Rise Of The Phoenix T-Shirt, standard Rise of The Phoenix deck and a numbered 1 of 1,000 limited deck.
Limited (198 of 200 remaining)

He isn't lying in that sense. It probably just means out of the 5000 decks, 1000 people will get the deck numbered 1. Probably to fulfill some idiot's fantasy of "must have number 1 edition"

And he did post this -
1,000 dollar mark has been reached new photo coming soon.
As we eagerly await............................

Still, i doubt this will get funded or many will pull out unless he shows some awesome pics. But just by the way he handled this project, i wouldn't even pledge if he showed awesome pics.

I'm sure people are probably saying it all over of the place they have at UC and I tend to agree that the indices are a little close to the bead border, for me most noticeable on the number cards. Pushed out just a touch would be great. The bead border there is really fantastic on these. I think it adds a lot. Good things, good things.

Nice suggestion.  I'm pretty sure he is going to play it safe and change it to 2 suit colors.  Now, Don can play solitaire again...

For such a colourful deck, i was hoping he could pull a 4-colour suit actually. But ultimately, 3 is really neither here nor there, and glad he made changes to it.

Just thought i should add in also, for future testimonials if anyone wants to buy from him.

I have bought many times from c571121. Never had any problems with him, decks came in well packaged as well. His decks are definitely original and the addition of luxury boxes or metal tin case is just a "more attractive" way of packaging his items. Very responsible guy, even dropped me a message when he had some personal issues and had to delay my shipment a couple of days, which ultimately arrived as well.

I hope you guys had no problems buying from him as well.

Cheers.

Can we change the topic so that it reflects the current status of the project? And change it back to live when it is really live?

I'd swear I read about this before, somewhere around here...

Maybe you were thinking about this deck? also from the same guy.

I know, It is taking them like a week to ship out my items. Look like they're quite packed this time of year.

EVERYBODY is...  My expected shipments are pretty delayed as well.

My mystery decks are still a mystery....location of it is also a mystery...just somewhere on its way here for quite a while now.
