Deck Reviews! / Smooth finish: Alladin 1001 and Aviator
« on: March 12, 2016, 11:09:58 AM »
Hi guys,

As I'm sure you are aware, Alladin and Avaitor playing cards are advertised as having a 'smooth finish'. While I understand that this means they don't have the dimples like bikes or other USPCC cards, does this mean they handle differently?

Are they better of worse, or is it a matter of opinion?

Thanks for your help,

Alex

Design & Development / Card faces
« on: August 19, 2015, 10:24:04 AM »
Hi guys,

Everyone keeps saying that the card faces of the USPCC are in the public domain, but where?

If i chose to use the standard faces, but with a few alterations, where would I find the faces?

Thanks,

Design & Development / Deck Numbering
« on: July 23, 2015, 01:52:18 PM »
Hello everyone,

Now, I know a little about how it works, but does anyone know the nuts and bolts of numbering on playing cards (808 for instance). I did a bit of research on the bicycle website, and to me it looks like the numbers were just chosen in order (starting with the 'tiger' brand at 101).But what do they mean and are they a useful thing to have on custom decks? I think LPCC use the number system.

Thanks,  :D

Magical Cardistry Bonanza / Different Decks for magic
« on: July 05, 2015, 07:02:07 AM »
Hello everyone!
Sorry, I just had to see what that did!   ;D

Anyway, when performing, I usually use regular bikes because everyone knows what they are and has seen them before.

However, I was thinking, would people start to get suspicious if I used a custom deck that they may not know about? It would be more interesting for me as I could buy custom decks and not have to get regular ones as well.

Someone might have asked this question before but I don't know the answer and I would love to find out what it is.

Thanks in advance

Introduce Yourself / Hello from the UK!
« on: June 14, 2015, 07:46:17 AM »
 :) hi guys.

I live in Great Britain but my family is Brazilian. I live in London and currently do magic as a hobby. I have aspirations to perform for money but right now I'm just super interested in magic and cardistry. I have quite a small collection of playing cards (at the moment!) and I don't really know how I started: it just sort of... happened. I want to design my own pack of cards so I joined this forum (I found it just by looking online) to learn the ins and outs of playing card design. Maybe one day my dreams will come true.

Until then,

Alex

:-\ I have been looking around the web a bit and found myself wondering why Gaff decks are so much more expensive than say a standard deck of bikes. I know that some offer video training but this is usually an additional extra.

If all your paying for is a deck of gaff cards (with no gold foil or anything extra special) why should they cost so much?

When reading this don't take it the wrong way; I absolutely love the effects you can get with a deck of gaff cards.
Maybe you guys can help and even recommend the best gaff cards...
