Playing Card Plethora / Framing uncut sheets
« on: August 27, 2013, 07:09:45 PM »
Hi guys. I've got 3 pretty rare uncut sheets that I'd really like to frame. The problem lies in the dimensions of an uncut. They're irregular. I can't just get a standard A3 frame because its too small, and A2 is way too big. Is there a particular size that's readily available? Or do you have to get custom made frames? Is there a particular store you go to (preferably in the uk) that is the place to go for uncut frames? Any help you guys can provide will be muchly appreciated.

Take a look at this guys. Signed by Blue LTD designer Peter McKinnon, these Blue LTD decks have been sealed inside a bolted lucite case. Only 50 are available and to Black Club members only. At $175 a pop, this a serious collectors item only! And for a deck of cards I'm never going to open, I'm out.

Found these on eBay! They look and sound pretty cool, but are they really worth that much money?!

This seller also has a lot more rare and unusual decks too, all way out of my price range though.

Playing Card Plethora / Animal Instinct Deck (KS) by Alexa Boccieri
« on: March 10, 2013, 09:34:19 PM »
Hey guys. Just found this on kickstarter and wandered what you think. Personally, I think it looks pretty good! But with no info about printers, finish, no multi deck option, and a hefty price tag of $15 per deck, I'm not going to be backing. They also seem more intent on selling their art prints than the deck.

MOD EDIT: that link goes to the creator's bio, while this one goes to the project: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/talianora/animal-instinct-playing-card-deck

Playing Card Plethora / Deck Handling
« on: February 27, 2013, 02:34:48 PM »
Hi guys. I was talking to a member of these forums today about a new deck that I've received (Moonshine Deck by Enigma ltd) and I was saying what I liked about the design etc. when he asked how the deck handles.

Being fairly new to this, I didn't really know how to put it into words, or even what to look for. For example, I can do a fairly standard fan with a deck of cards, and I can do one with a highly customised deck. I can't say if its better or not.

I've commented on a few decks on here saying they have good or bad handling, only to be corrected. This has made me think maybe I'm looking for (or doing) the wrong things, I know a lot of sleights and a few flourishes, shuffles, etc, so maybe I just not picking the right ones.

What do you guys do to determine how well a deck handles? Just flourishes? Magic sleights? Throw them at the wall and see how far they bounce? And if so, which ones?

Do you compare them to a different deck as a sort of "baseline"?

I'd really like to make a review so any help to make sure I know what I'm talking about is greatly appreciated!

Magical Cardistry Bonanza / Blackpool Magic Convention 2013
« on: February 12, 2013, 08:36:01 AM »
It's almost that time of the year! When UK magi group together in masses for the chance to see their heroes perform and get to learn something from them on a one-to-hundreds basis! Personally, this is the first time I've ever been to one of these things so I can't wait to see everything and anything I can, but especially Michael Lovell and Simin Weber lectures, as well as anything with Wayne Dobson performing! The dealer hall sounds good too, as I've ashamedly never been to a bricks and mortar magic shop in my life! It's a shame I can only go for the Saturday though  :(

Anybody else going? What are you looking forward to?

Hi guys. Collected a few too many decks over the last few months, and I'm never going to use them, so I might as well try and get some money back so I can start it all again!

I live in the UK so my prices are probably higher than what you can get them for in the US due to the higher shipping charges and customs I've had to pay to receive them. I can ship internationally however if you're interested. Please contact me for shipping quote.

Playing Card Plethora / Absolute must-have decks!
« on: February 04, 2013, 06:07:46 AM »
Hi guys. Wasn't sure exactly where to put this question, so tried to figure out where NOT to put it and came here!

I was just wandering what everyone thinks are the absolute must own decks for a card collection. Whether they're old or new, or expensive or cheap, or whatever.

To give you a bit of an idea, I'll list some of the (what i think are) rarer parts of my collection. I'm not going to include decks like Black Arcanes, Purple Artifices, or Guardians, as they're fairly standard and still in print.

Smoke and Mirrors v4 1st Edition
Smoke and Mirrors v4 2nd Editon
Smoke and Mirrors v5
Players
Black Ghost 1st Edition
LTD
Gold Arcane
Red Artifice
White Lions (series a and b)
Sultan Treasury
Brown Wynn Casino deck
Legends
Blue Artifice v1
Split Spades Lions

And probably more but I can't think of them right now! So, yeah! It's be great to hear all of your thoughts!

Rich

Introduce Yourself / Greetings from the UK!
« on: February 03, 2013, 03:57:28 PM »
Hi guys! My names Rich and I'm from the UK! I'm passionate about several things in life and at least 3 of those things involve playing cards. They are Magic, Poker, and Card collecting (in no particular order!)

I stumbled across this site in pursuit of the third passion on my list - Collecting! I don't quite know what it is, but I love collecting cards! The artwork, the feel of the cards, the history, I find it very interesting! Even the smell of a fresh deck!

So, yeah, that's my story! I'm hoping to find some information about where I can find certain rare decks, maybe help people with anything they need to know, and maybe even help people with their collections, as I have a few decks I'm willing to trade!

Looking forward to getting to know you all!
