My joker says Erlanger and the box say Cincinnati and its a rider back box. I really do hope they do not discontinue this box if not there will be some problems using the gaff decks.
Sieg, I hate to disappoint you, but the old Rider Back box is ALREADY discontinued; that happened not long after the move in 2009. There's some unsold stock lying around here and there, but all new Rider Back decks come in the new "Standard" box. If you want a box with the card back on it, I think the only current-issue USPC-made Bikes that have it are the Mandolin Backs, which AREN'T switching to the new box design. Anyone ordering custom Bike decks can get them using the old box style if they want and they're willing to pay for it.
The new box isn't all that bad, but it's not the "traditional" box that I came to know since I was a kid first learning about playing cards. That box remained basically unchanged other than minor tweaks for a good few decades. But things change, times change, and packaging changes. I'm guessing USPC did some market research to find out which box style would attract the most customers - not the most magicians or the most card collectors, but the most customers in the general population, from old timers with poor vision to beer-bellied guys at the neighborhood poker game to ladies in bridge clubs and to children with enough disposable income to buy their own playing cards, and every human in between.
There was some mention of a box marked 807-RT-G or something to that effect on the bottom under the Bicycle name, before the introduction of the microprinted copyright information. From what I know of it, those were sold after the company moved to Kentucky, but were made in Cincinnati. They took the last handful of Rider Backs printed in Cincy and marked them like this, knowing these were the decks that wouldn't be sold until after the move, as a way of distinguishing them from the other print runs.
