« on: January 12, 2013, 07:42:30 PM »
Topic says it all, E are planning to release some Red Artifice uncuts :)

Just thought I would throw this up here (I think thats the thing to do),
I am currently in a trade with Sinsandman. I am sending him 3 Karnival Inferno Decks, and 1 Inferno Uncut. He is sending me 1 Vortex and 1 White Monarch.

Due to a slight delay my end, his went out today (which may count as monday, I'm not sure). I don't know when he sent his but I trust I'll recieve them in good time :)

Playing Card Plethora / Price of rare decks?
« on: January 12, 2013, 11:27:34 AM »
So, if I am right, I believe there are around 8-10 rare decks, that people 'prize'. These would be:

Jerry's
BG1E
Gold Arcane
Black and White Fan Back Set (together or not at all I say).
Red Artifice
White Monarchs
White Centurions
Brown Wynn
Cage Gardens
LTDs

So my question is, what do you guys think these are worth? The market tends to flux, and people differ on whether the decks get more expensive or less expensive. E seems to be out of BG1E and I don't know if LTD really took off like Gold Arcanes and BG1E did. So can anyone give me a price list on these decks? I'd rather expertise, not just ebay searches. Thanks :)

Playing Card Plethora / Merz67
« on: January 04, 2013, 08:29:06 PM »
So... What's up with this guy?
I have a long history with Merz, and for a while I was sort of an advocate of his. I liked him... Before I got wise.

I first came across him watching a deck collection video (I don't know about you guys, but I do this weekly/biweekly). They held up a deck I had never seen before, and that made me think it was rare. I mean we've all heard of a Gold Arcane, or BG1E and you don't need to own them to know about them, but to see a deck that you'd never heard of, you get thinking. That deck was Bicycle Tie Dye. I googled it, amazoned it, ebayed it and eventually found it for sale - $60. I believe I was 14 at the time, I said no dice.

A year or so later I found it on amazon for £9 ($13.50), with a birthday 2 weeks away I promptly emailed my mum a link with a hope. I luckily received the deck and I was stupidly excited, you have to know that the favourite part of my collection is the brick of bicycle coloured rider backs. I was a little disappointed with the jokers but I loved the deck and it advertised Merz67.

That was when I became aware of him and I have to say I was impressed. Over the last few years I have read a lot of bad things about him; all of which I agree with. The barrage of his 'clip art' decks is awful. I'll only buy another one if I become really rich and really completist.

However I maintain he is a strong seller, I recently bought the david blaine magic deck trio for £14 ($21)  including shipping to the UK (Other people in england should know how good value this is). I also stumbled upon his Amazon UK identity - "Now that's a deal" is the only UK trader to sell trace decks, the animal skins deck and even the tie dye deck. From there I got a few cheap bikes, including a Dessert Shield Secret Weapons deck for £5 ($8) with shipping.

I recently became aware of the fact that bicycle promote him on their website - so who the F is he? He isn't John from acekingcards, or Mike from bmpokerworld or Jason from 1Eyedjack. I can't seem to find any information on him other than his mysterious name - who is he? What are his connections? How can he ram 3000 clip art decks through bicycle every year?

I know some of you know just about everything, any info on this guy?

Design & Development / Problems with Kickstarter
« on: December 30, 2012, 05:15:14 AM »
Hey guys,
I thought there should be a topic for designers that want to get their decks made, and don't know too much about the flaws/issues they may hit. Whilst I haven't completed a project on Kickstarter, I've done extensive research and back a few projects. On top of this we have plenty of members that have experience (Alex, Paul, etc) or very knowledgable ones (Don, etc).

So hopefully this helps for new comers.

The first thing to note is that Kickstarter costs... A lot. After kickstarter and Amazon take their cuts you are looking at 90% of what is pledged. What does this mean? Say you list a deck as $10, you'll lost $1 to amazon and kickstarter - if your margins are tight, be careful.

You really have to sell. Some of the most successful projects have been from those that are present in the forums. If people interact with you, and you are selling yourself as well as the project, more people will jump on.

Momentum, once a project starts to gather momentum things seem to take care of themselves, the hard bit is getting it up and going.

Your goal. When setting your goal beware that you really have to reach it, but it also has to cover your costs. There is no point having a $10,000 goal, reaching it and then defaulting. From what I've seen, I'd recommend $17,000-$20,000.

Shipping. This is a major gripe of mine, but I'll try to stay neutral. Most american based designers offer free domestic shipping. Be warned if you offer this, you will be hit hard. But it is something people expect. What most seem to do is exploit the international shipping because aside from a pledge level on the galvanic playing cards, no one offers free international - that'd be suicidal. What I will add though is that if your international is too high people just won't pledge. For example, a recent deck had $8 price, $7 shipping. A) Do I value the deck at $15? B) Can I justify the price of the deck in shipping? The answer is normally, wait until the aftermarket. Because I will probably be able to pick it up from a reseller for about $10, and pay only a couple dollars shipping (I usually buy a brick or more from resellers of all the new cards that year. One time I bought 50 decks from BMPoker, this makes shipping literally a dollar). Does this matter? If you're circle city cards, no. If you are new and fledgling and need every backer you can get, don't alienate people. I for one would rather a higher deck price and cheaper shipping - for some weird reason $10 deck, $5 shipping would get me.

State and distributer tax - dependant on what state you are in, you may be liable for certain taxes, and so you should look into getting what I believe is called a sellers certificate. I am not american so I don't know the proper terms; any help Don?

Extras - Some popular kickstarters have had extras, CCC had dice and brick boxes, Tendril had card clips, nearly all have uncuts. Read around, and do some polls on what people think will suite your deck. Maybe a t-shirt? or some stickers. It depends upon your deck, for example the tendril clips looked amazing (Still waiting for one though) and so did the deck, and so protection was a good idea. Cosmo's spectrum deck needed uncuts to do justice to it. It's all relative to your design.

Anything I missed?

Playing Card Plethora / Who made what decks?
« on: August 08, 2012, 09:38:04 AM »
So after just posting a massive essay about the coloured bikes - it got me thinking about who produced what? My thoughts were:

Red, Blue, Black - USPCC
Yellow, Burgundy - Bond Agency
Silver, Gold, Green, Orange, Turquoise, Fuschia - Di Fattia
Brown - BMPokerworld.

However the Green, Orange and Black both have MADE IN THE U.S.A written boldly on one side where as the rest have the Air Cushion Finish. Were the Green, Orange and Black made by a different company, if not why do they have this?

Any info would be great, thanks folks.

Playing Card Plethora / Favourite Part of your collection?
« on: August 08, 2012, 09:31:07 AM »
So what is your favourite part of your collection? I'd actually like you to really consider this question - and try to look for sentimental reasons and not just values. I.E I have a gold arcane but it was bought more for collection purposes, my favourite deck is the Karnival Renegades *hides under desk to avoid thrown objects" it was one of my first decks about 2/3 years ago (whenever it came out) and it handles great, nice colour, lovely jokers, the whole package to me.

Anyway my favourite part of my collection seems boring, but it's my bicycle colour collection. The riderbacks in all different colours - standard faces. This is because when I first got into magic I wanted bicycle cards (all the tutorials use them) and being a bit OCD I wanted everyone; unrealistic so now I collect series and collections.

Because I started when Riderbacks were getting faded out, they were harder to get - and so were the colours. It was only a month ago that I finally got all 12 colours. The red and blue, Turqoise and Fuschia, Green and Yellow, Orange and Burgundy, Brown and Black, Silver and Gold. Seems simple and I am sure more serious collectors might look down their nose at my simple taste - but you can say a jerry nugget is your favourite deck because it cost you $300 and its your prize piece, or that your BG1E is the best which you speant $300 at Ellusionist to get as a gift, but in reality you bought them to collect and whilst the Black Ghost is beautifully designed, at which point does purchasing a deck become more 'for the collection' than 'I loved it when I saw it' - those impulse buys.

I am not saying there is anything wrong with the up market decks, but I want to know what your favourite part of your collection is, the deck/s that you see in your collection and still love. Maybe it's a bike from 60 years ago, or the Karnival series, maybe its the tendril, or the black tigers. Maybe you do love your Gold arcane more than anything - perhaps that was your goal when you started and once you achieved it you felt like you had arrived in the collecting world. I don't know it's up to you. Like I said my brick of coloured Bikes are still my special thing, and what I brag the most about. It's something about the class of a riderback, the memories of starting out and wanting these decks and enjoying the colours. In fact, for this reason and this reason alone (my love of coloured bikes) I bought the rainbow deck by Cosmo, I was very vocal about my displeasure from the outset, I cancelled my pledge and then re-pledged (bumping down to a black seal but meh) - I was disappointed with the jokers, and the spelling mistake but the backs of the cards are beautiful to me and I do not regret them one bit. That's my long winded essay for the day -whats your favourite deck/s?

TL;DR:
I like dem coloured bikes and whats not, how about you?

Introduce Yourself / My Re-Introduction
« on: July 28, 2012, 05:09:16 PM »
In the words of eminem, guess who's back?

Hey guys, don't know if any of you remember me but I was on here for a while around January and February, maybe as late as March, but then I stopped appearing. I can assure you it wasn't for because I just got bored, but for personal reasons which I shan't go into detail on.

Okay so I have a couple of things to say and ask, and would be nice if some of you (sort of hoping Don, but others are welcome) would oblige?

So since I was last on here, my collection has only grown a little. I have on their way infernos and redux from BBM. I got an Olympic deck (not HOPC) that I will be posting a review for, I got the Tendril (Great and loving it, just waiting for a clip for a friend), I got the spectrum (Lived up to my expection, which weren't exactly high, saddened to find a spelling mistake, but I bought the deck to experience the colours and they look great so no complaints), I have some other decks but they came a while ago and I've forgotten what exactly I posted ages ago. At the end of this August (dependant on whether I get a pay check) I will be placing a huge order for more cards, but until then I'm saving. Thats all you need to know about me, and now here's the questions:

1. Why do the people over at UC hate De'vo so much?
2. What ever happened about the magic con fiasco?
3. Has Carlo received all of his decks?
4. Does anyone know what happened to Cardsrfun on youtube?
5. What's happening with Bicycle Harlequins? I did a search but it seems outdated, can someone fill me in?

Thank you, it's good to be back.

Oh and before I forget, anyone remember those illusive Yellow Riderbacks? I should have a handful of them coming monday (I think I got the right ones, could only see the back and the company assured be that they were standard faces, didn't want to get caught with magic makers) but if so would anyone be up for buying some? Will post in the proper board once I can be sure they are the real deal :)

End of massive text thingy majig.

Playing Card Plethora / How do you decide what to collect?
« on: February 29, 2012, 05:22:59 PM »
Interesting question - How do you decide what to collect?
For the vast majority of us we can't just buy half a brick of every new deck, so how do you decide what decks you get? How many you get of them? And how frequent will you buy a deck?

For me, I have three classes I follow.
ALL MUST BE REASONABLE PRICE:
1. Something I can attach special meaning to.

Either it's going to a good cause, you know the guy doing it, it is a souvenir, it's a kickstarter and I want to chip in, etc.

2. It's a bicycle deck.

I am not going to lie, I am primarily a bike collector so most bicycle decks are on the list - provided I don't have a vendetta against the producer.

3. It's a USPCC deck that I like the look of.

I picked up the hoyle 52 Iraqi most wanted, and I have the Bulldog Squeezers, the tally ho's and just club special Bees. I wouldn't dare breach into collecting bees... Too many casino cards.

Also, their are some decks I stay away from for whatever reasons. Like D&D... I think it would bankrupt me with all the new decks.

What about you guys?

Design & Development / Burn Card Clothing
« on: February 24, 2012, 02:26:46 PM »
Hey Guys,
I know this was posted a while about (it was where I found out about this) but I couldn't find it and I also wanted to do a little review for you guys.

Firstly, I urge all of you, and especially you UK guys, to visit the site: http://burncardclothing.com/ it is actually awesome.

What's so good?
Pretty decent clothing selection, I got my shirt today and it fits well, it is a great fabric (100% heavyweight cotton) and it looks pretty epic - their logo is like a flaming club pip with wings. WHAT IS NOT AWESOME?

They have fast shipping, it does what it says on the tin and most importantly THEY SHIP FOR FREE IN THE UK.

Great Customer service, I have no quarrels with the guys there.

Attention to detail, I CAN NOT STRESS THIS TOO MUCH - firstly they package the shirt in tissue paper, kept together with a logo sticker that looks awesome and is really neat. But it gets better, the box the shirt comes in is a massive tuck box style design, and it looks suave and elegant - like someone took a box of cards and made it bigger and dare I say better. However this isn't where the detail ends, you get a card attached to the shirt telling the size. It is styled to look like a playing card, and it just fits the theme so well. It's brilliant and just adds to the feel of the shirt. On top of all that, they gift you some nice stickers for you own amusement.

I literally can't find anything wrong and I recommend them highly.

Okay, really want to shift these to liquidate funds (some awesome decks coming out) - here we go...

4x Bicycle Maroon/Burgundy rider back, essential for any color collection. £4 - $6.40 each, or all for £16, $25
Comparison: http://www.bmpokerworld.com/bicycle22.php

1x Bicycle Pirate Sets £25, $42 each,
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SET-2-BICYCLE-BLACK-WHITE-PIRATE-PLAYING-CARDS-DECK-RARE-LIMITED-SET-POKER-/280752385323?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item415e256d2b#ht_2076wt_905

Shipping in uk is £2 plus a £1 every additional deck.
International is $3.20, plus $1.20 every additional deck.

The comparisons are there as guidance - I have adjusted my prices to match these which are the cheapest on ebay (Even if my price is higher you have to take into account the shipping charges, maybe my deck is £2 more  in price, but my shipping is £5 cheaper, it levels out the same if not cheaper. Contact me with offers etc.

Thank you :)

Playing Card Plethora / Merz Does it again.
« on: February 14, 2012, 04:13:24 PM »
Now I am partial to Merz... I think he is a marketing genius. His decks aren't my favorite but for collections sake I have a few. They are quite easy to pick up as well since after about 6-8 months his price is like £9 in the uk. Also cos so many people dislike him you know he'll have them awhile - unlike D&D which in my opinion are almost as bad as him in terms of releases.

Anyway, just a heads up, he has released another four in the Trace Series. RRP atm is £50.

22
Hey all,
Decided to make a new thread - FOR UK ONLY - to get things simpler. I have taken the nod from the other post and at this current moment I am in the process of making an order with the supplier. Here's what I need to know, (obviously if you want a deck) how many you want, the papal to invoice it to and a price you wont go above. At the moment they are 7.50 euro which is around £6.50. Plus shipping (your shipping cost will be total shipping from france / number of decks * number of decks in your order) PLUS shipping from me to your doorstep. All in all I reckon it'll cost £11 or £12 a deck, I shall update you when I get the reply. Thank you all.

Oh if you say you want a deck please be ready to pay before I order, I shall need all the invoices paid UK time 7:00 pm, and then I will order.

23
Hey guys, my friend has three decks he is looking to liquidate... Financial issues. His decks are:
Black Ghost First Edition £120, $180

Black and White New Fan Back £70, $105

Buy all three decks for a combined price of £180, $270.

Shipping international is free.

Serious responses only, would like a quick sale.

Thanks
