Playing Card Plethora / Re: Marked decks
« on: May 03, 2015, 01:01:20 PM »
You might check ebay.  They have some pretty odd marked decks and a few that have been around forever.  I remember 55 years back getting a marked Bicycle deck at Woolworths.  The same system still in use today.

I had a question.  How can all these guys be posting comments pointing out the scam, unless they are backers.  KS won't let me post and I'm certainly not backing they project.  Are they backing, posting, and then withdrawing?
Thanks

Chas0039, even the original NOC V3 was printed in Taipei...

Sorry, I am not that well versed and most of the discussion talked about V1, V2, and this V3.  I didn't know there was an earlier V3.  And you mentioned Legands,  I get the feeling they are the same people as Art of Play, which means, if I read correctly, Dan & Dave.  Is this the case?

The main difference that I have read is they are now not made in the USA, but in Taipei.

I just noticed, his comment:

"A collection of the finest playing cards in the world, featuring hand-painted works of art, award-winning design and illustration, and luxury packaging. These are playing cards unlike any you've seen before. All of our playing cards uphold to a high level of quality. Wether you use these cards for magic, cardistry, poker or collecting, we guarantee your satisfaction"

was lifted directly from Art of Play, including the misspelling!

Thanks for the links to the Alice decks.  Interesting decks but I see no connection to Alice in Wonderland so no sale.

I see now what you are saying.  All those fine lines and filigree could get muddy.  Nice to have the resources here to point those things out.

The original TRS-80s didn't have an OS, they had a programming language - in many ways similar to your Atari, but in black and white with giant pixels, the size of a kid's pinky finger.

Got you beat, my TRS-80 model I had 4K.  Or maybe that is what I ordered, either the 8K machine or the 4K machine was not delivered.  Spent may hours debugging the programs I typed in from Byte magazine.  In the early 1980s I started building my own clones with MS-DOS 1.1.

But I digress.

Back to the 4 Seasons deck, I heard rumors that they were going to set up a US distributor, hopefully the shipping cost will drop.

May as well stay out of potential trouble.

Thanks

I kind of like it, but the hefty additional shipping cost turned thumbs down.  I'll probably wait for the secondary market here in the US.

Thanks.  I thought it would be part of uploaded picture gallery as on other boards.

So I stay out of trouble, any issues with this avatar?

I've uploaded an image, how do I incorporate it into the posts?

Thanks

Looks like the project is cancelled.

"The primary reason for the "box revival" is that the older design is still popular among many people who use the deck and there are several magician's gaffs that are designed specifically to be used with the older "807" type box design."

Thanks very much for your information.  I have an older long flap 808 which is what confused me.

I would still like to know what the difference is as you seem to indicate they are the same.  Is it just the printing on the outside, Rider Back instead of Standard?  If they are exactly the same otherwise, what is the trick?

Again, thanks,

Sam

Sorry if I am in the wrong place.  There doesn't seem to be a place for questions in general.

Just what is what with these tucks?  I know one is longer, but which one?  There do not seem to be any pictures or descriptions I can find, and looking at my decks makes no sense.

Thanks

Accumulated percentages only apply when you look at the probability of a continuous string of wins, not a discrete outcome.  Casinos win because each discrete outcome is to their advantage.  After thousands of plays, they will be ahead because a 2% advantage shows up the more often gamblers play.

Each individual play has the same odds as the one before.  Sports is a great example of how we miss this when assuming a player with a string of baskets has a better chance of sinking the next throw, when in fact, the next throw has the same chance as the first.

Sorry to digress.  Maybe this falls under the "and more" category of topics. :)

120
The probability doesn't change because you continue to perform the trick.  It remains at 2% each individual time.

...People love to say that it's statistically impossible to win the lottery.  But it happens all the time, to a small percentage of the population - some even hit twice!

Agreed!

My favorite statistical oddity:  Statisticians love to say that, essentially your chances of winning are the sames whether you buy a ticket or not.  While at the same time, when the payout gets above a certain amount, commonly around $140B, the expected outcome for your $1 is better than $1.  So then they say you should buy a ticket.

121
Thanks much for this post.  I almost missed this one and just got the last pledge.  These are not my usual area of interest, but I just couldn't pass up such a great effort.

122
Takes all kinds, doesn't it.  I, for one, hope it funds.  All the above comments are valid, but I would enjoy owning these.
