Playing Card Plethora / Re: Dominus Playing Cards - KS

Have to say, I like the way he handled that. I don't have a copy of the Indictus deck, the only NPCC deck in my possession at the moment is Branle. Which I have on my desk now and in my hands a moment ago, the other NPCC printed deck I had I can't remember the name is gone. They may have gotten better and changed stock since this deck was printed. Assuming of course that Indictus was done after this. Either way these decks in particular of the Dominus campaign feature some delicious art. If anyone is keen on the images in these decks other things are not hard to overlook in my opinion.

It was a good response, and I could have asked a lot nicer than I did. I am in for this and also Bone/Ebon for the art, we remain skeptical of the quality, we will see how they turn out I guess.

Since the project creator is Roman Kotiv from NoirArts, I don't think he'll be swayed away from printing with NPCC.  ;-)

I dunno, I would never use the services of the company I work for...

Contact the creator, express your dissatisfaction with the decks you have from NPCC and convince him to switch if he wants your backing.  MPC can't be that much more expensive, and with enough backing, Legends, Expert and even USPC aren't beyond reach.

"Justin
If you had held an Indictus deck in your hands right now, that concern of yours might not have been raised to begin with. It seems to me like you got your mind set that one company does wrong while the other does right. There are certainly different views on this. Every company has strengths and weaknesses, but I have no urge to list them here. My choice of printer is based on hands-on experience with both LPCC, USPCC, MPC, EPCC and NPCC as a project creator. There are many factors to take into account, but ultimately NPCC has the best overall score in my book. I am not interested in changing to any of your listed printer companies, if I can avoid it.
I hope for your understanding that I do not praise the concern you raise on fictional grounds, since you are neither a backer of Chivalry nor Indictus. Both decks that represent the technical capabilities of NPCC well.
Cheers"

I'm conflicted. I don't like NPCC, but I really love this art. I am having the same issues with Dominus (Dominus Thread), another NPCC KS deck but great artwork. I wish I could take their designs and start KS projects with a different printer.

FYI, I asked Hanson if the printer that HCPC will use is the same Taiwan factory used by EPCC and LPCC.  He said no.

Thank you, that's what I was wondering.

I wouldn't worry too much about it.  It's actually less about the printer, more about the stock.  The best Asian printers tend to use stocks based from Europe.  EPCC and LPCC used European stocks.

USPCC and makeplayingcards.com use German stocks right?
And I know that makeplayingcards.com uses digital printers, and can't match press quality, but believe I read somewhere that they recently started using presses. I know that USPCC and Legends use presses, I assume Expert does as well..?

I really wasn't interested in this deck when I first saw it, didn't get one, and am kicking myself for it now. The design has really grown on me and I wish I had a few now. Checking eBay regularly for reasonable resells.

Hanson Chien Production Company? Does he have his own printer? Or is this part of the joke?

Speculation was USPCC based on them having printed the Jerry's Nuggets originally, but I don't know that that was ever confirmed by the creator. I believe.. Expert and Legends use a Taiwan printer..? Help me out here Don, I know I have seen you talk about this before but can't find where..

...and how do you know there aren't MORE goals that just haven't been reached yet?

I do love those secret stretch goals!
And maybe it's silly of me to have an expectation of what 'Stretch Goals' means based on the way it has been nearly exclusively used on virtually every other Kickstarter project that uses the term, but I think it's somewhat reasonable to have expectations.
Is it so outrageous that the project creator might be even remotely culpable for using a term that has a generally accepted concept format based on it's history of use? I can't be that far removed from reality.

That's all him, no one else.

And c'mon now Don, don't patronize me, it's not just me, I believe CardFool above expressed the same irritation not even 8 posts back. As well as users at UC and I'm pretty sure I saw one person in the project comments express the same irritation.

That right there is the key.  Since you were promised nothing more than "a stretch goal," you only have yourself to blame for getting one and being disappointed in it.  Now if he'd promised free decks, gold doubloons, loose women, etc., then I can see how you'd be justified...  But he didn't!

To be fair, he did pluralize it, 'goals'. I take responsibility for my entitlement and expectations, but I feel like there is at least... 20% blame on the creator at least..?

Some people aren't happy no matter what you give them...

I'm a little entitled, sure, but the creator shouldn't bullshit me by saying 'stretch goals here!' then not listing any. By teasing a backer gift and giving us a single card. By claiming that the project has reached 800% of it's goal and saying thank you for allowing me to pocket all of this extra money, here's an expensive deck, but it's ok because 'super limited!', and you even get one for free if you've already spent over $100. /rant

I've been spoiled by other creators for sure. I will throw the extra card away and I'm not going to buy a black deck. I know that I only have myself to blame for my expectations, but that doesn't make me feel any less irritated, regardless of whether it's justified or not

I'm a little irritated (maybe I'm just being entitled) that at over 400% of his goal his big gift to the backers is just a different colored card in the deck and a 20$ recolor you can add on

Noir Arts is getting more print work it seems.  Has their quality improved at all?  The last I heard, it wasn't that great.

Comments in this guy's last project seem to confirm that it still is sub-par. I, rather critically, asked if he had any plans to stretch-goal a better printer and he made it clear he wasn't, that he was happy with NPCC's quality (read: price)

Playing Card Plethora / ICONS Sacred Ed.
« on: April 19, 2016, 05:58:10 PM »
"The deck features gold metallic ink on the faces, gold and silver metallic on the back and an intricate tuck case that was amazingly stamped on 2-sided color "metallic" stock, pushing the limits of detailed foiling.

600 numbered decks will become available out of the 700 produced and ICONS “SACRED” will never be reprinted.

As it was technically very demanding, and before I go to the press for IMPERIAL edition's final print, I decided to “sacrifice” this deck and use it in order to test my new printer’s efficiency and also to experiment with various production aspects from cutting methods and metallic inks’ behavior to playing card finish.

I used my own varnishing formula which has a feel that I like but appears a bit sensitive to rubbing and should be handled with care. That said, crafted with much love, devotion -and some risk-, ICONS SACRED is an experimental deck, more an art object than a deck for playing games.
But who can actually play games with the Sacred? That would be a sacrilege…"

Really loving the circuitry designs so far, spot on! The binary designs aren't quite grabbing me though, too... Matrix-y? Maybe... I'm not sure...
