This is not 4pm's design, It's a different deck and a different designer

I'm sure they have both been working on these for a long time. Funny how things like that can happen.

  • Pick a card, any card...no, not THAT card!

From what I can guess based on the project home page, it looks like they might be using custom spot cards as well as courts.  But for all that work, the back is rather bland, no?  It's like buying the expensive sports car but having an AM radio with an 8-track tape player installed to replace the satellite radio/MP3 player...with cheap speakers, too...

Hey there Don, and all the rest! Thanks for the feedback on the cards. I went with the more bland/traditional design because I wanted the deck to look similar to older woodcut card runs. Hence the spidery design and illustration. I appreciate the feedback though, and this being my first deck, I would love some suggestions/examples if you have them. To either try out on this batch or incorporate in other deck projects. Thanks again the forums here are a huge resource that I only discovered because of you guys inviting us over.

I know you want to make awesome cards - and the art shows you can.  I do suggest that you consider simplifying the indices.  The pips used there are fine, but why use a fancy index pip if your other pips are plain?  Jazz those pips up, keep the index pips easily read, and look for a typeface that captures your style while at the same time providing fast, easy card identification.

A one-color design for the backs is fine, but you can add some more intricacy to it if you like, something that will do justice to the court art you've shown so far as well as hearkening back to some of the classic designs from the early days of mass-produced playing cards.
