Darn... it's too bad there isn't a resource for this.  I could see it being a useful website if some "card historian" could research and gather all this information together in one place.  I have some old Bicycle decks too with different printing locations on the bottom and I don't know which one is supposed to be better than the others.  Wish we had more clear information on this.  Oh well!  :D

Deck Reviews! / [VID] deck review - GOLD Gatorbacks by David Blaine
« on: September 04, 2018, 07:24:48 AM »
Wow.. it's been 2.5 years since I've uploaded a deck review! Went through a big life change... having sold my house/car/etc, quit my job, and backpacking around Europe. Anyway... now I'm excited to back making YouTube videos!  :D

This deck review is for the GOLD Gatorbacks by David Blaine. Spoiler alert: I really like them and am impressed by the MetalLuxe foil. It looks great and doesn't interfere with the handling.

By the way... the "cards in action" sequence on this video (about 2/3 of the way into the video) is I think my best version yet! (Essentially it's just me trying to show off with card moves.)

Here it is ----> https://youtu.be/E88S9h631rc

Let me know what you think!

Great review! That deck deserved a presentation like that. Thank you!
I am envious of you for having a chance to play with those cards. They are beautiful. I wish I had seen them early enough to order one for myself.

Thanks, glad you enjoyed the review!  You can still get them on eBay.... price isn't too too bad.  :)

Thanks Don!  :)  That makes sense about the cut card.  I do remember now having seen those a couple times in the past.  Although I've never actually played cards in a real casino... haven't even been to Vegas yet!

I'm very happy E restrained themselves from including an ad card in this deck.  And yes I do try to keep the reviews from becoming too long.  If anything I probably risk too little information, but I'd rather err on the side of brevity.

Any opinion on the royalty-free music I'm using during the "deck in action" segment?  I'm trying out YouTube's music adding feature... but the choices are rather limited.  I still haven't decided which is less painful:  awkward silence or the music I used.

Playing Card Plethora / Re: Flamingo Playing Cards (KS)
« on: January 20, 2014, 10:38:25 PM »
Did you guys see the update Omar posted today on the kickstarter?  It shows the faces of the cards - pink color for the red cards.  I think this will look nice.  I signed up for a brick.  Hope it gets funded.

Only two things I'm concerned with
1.  How long it will take for the decks to arrive, given Omar's disclaimer.
2.  "cambric" finish....?  I hope it's not like the "cambric" finish on Ace Fulton's Casino deck.....   <shudder>

But other than that... I'm kinda excited about this deck!  :)

Wow!! You signed up for a brick? I watch most of your reviews. Of the videos I've seen, you usually have great taste. I'm really surprised by this.

I remember seeing a video of these a while back; I wanted them but they weren't available at the time.  When I saw them on KS I jumped on the early bird brick price (which is still available).  They just look kinda like fun cards.  It's very possible I might end up downgrading to a half brick later.  I usually end up add/removing from my pledge towards the end of the project once I have seen all the updates and know exactly what I'm getting (or not getting).  I myself actually like the pink/blue design.  Reminds me of all the bright colored tennis shoes they are selling now.  At first you see those tennis shoes and you think "what?  who??  what!!?!?"... and then after a bit your mind has melted into a thick paste from staring too long... and you start thinking maybe they look nice.

Maybe I'm off on this one.  Does anyone care to chime in with their opinions of the deck's design itself?  (shipping and extras discussions aside)

If I had to critique anything I would say the design risks being too simple.  It would be nice to have some more customization on the court cards.... something beyond just color.  And the white borders may verge on being a little thick.

That's a cool close up of the Bohemia ace of spades.  I had never noticed the detail on those little background lines how it almost looks like a coffee stain.  The only one I guessed with certainty was fultons casino.  I still remember the unpleasant surprise of opening my first deck of fultons casino cards and trying to do a fan with them.   :mindf-ck:

Here is another...

I see the description of "finest quality card stock"....   does anyone have specific details on the card stock used for this deck?
