Also, was that attachment your suggestion on how I should improve the Planaren deck?..

As one of possible variants to improve functionality of the design for real games.

Can be a funny (nice) deck. Don't like all backs.

Playing Card Plethora / Re: Top Modern Decks to Collect
« on: June 20, 2015, 10:53:26 AM »
Modern = 21th century? 20-21th centuries? 1950-these days? 1960-these days? 1970-these days? 1980-these days? 1990-these days? 2000-these days? 2010-these days?  :)

If anyone ever ask what the top 10 or so modern decks to collect I will ALWAYS add

Korchma Taras Bulba - 2005
http://www.wopc.co.uk/russia/korchma-taras-bulba.html

Pekelna Horugva - “Hell Gonfalon” - 2012
http://www.wopc.co.uk/russia/pekelna-horugva.html

Both decks designed by Vladislav Erko, and in my opinion are the most beautiful decks to date both modern and antique.

Yep, recognized Ukrainian illustrator. Warner Brothers recognized his illustrations of "Harry Portter" as one of the fifth best in the world. Paulo Coelho named Erko's illustrations to his works the best pictures in the world.

Oh, I remember you. Nice golden cards. Not very practical, but nice.

Inspired by Theory11's Monarchs Playing Cards?

...the URL is ungodly long (which makes it impossible to remember).
My shop is located at:
http://www.printerstudio.com/sell/sell_product_shop.aspx?designer=A11EAF15F6F57B5660997A5BC1CC721D8E3BA9D878DE371F

See what a mess that URL is?  Not a problem when you're on the internet, but I can't exactly put it on a business card.  You can also see that the shop uses my real name rather than the business name I put into the profile...

Good luck with your business card  :)

Several modest words about Fuego Playing Cards by Cellar Window:

Nice decks. They have so many interesting cultural elements.

In the end of the day, I hope these won't have too realistic pictures. I am not a big fan of "almost photos" as court cards.

Good luck.

IMHO:

The Queen is smaller than Jack and Kings. That's a little bit unpleasant.

Try to add proper shadows to court cards and, especially, figures in the number cards. Number cards will look more interesting. Courts will have less white space around the characters and will look also more interesting. Plus you will add even more sense to your deck in that way.

Good luck.

Tentacles are so forced... especially in the aces. IMHO.

Good luck.

Limited Edition, Ultralimited Edition, Limited Edition of Ultralimited Edition - and everything will be fine.

More serious - I hope the second launch will be more successful. The deck is really interesting and nice.

I think this is more for uncut sheets.

Several modest words about these decks:

http://playingcardcollector.net/2015/04/02/midnight-bowl-a-rama-playing-cards-by-randy-butterfield/

I read the article.  There appear to be more modest words about the sport of bowling than Randy's deck.  I understand his deck is bowling-themed, but perhaps more about the deck and less about the sport would be better - just give a link to a Wikipedia article on it if you think your readers don't know what bowling is.

It’s all about Randy’s decks. I am glad you liked my article :) But I always thought that articles are commented in their appropriate “comment sections”… when a commenter wants to say something to an author. So, I guess your comment isn't for me :(

On the other hand, you have found your way to vary my “modest words” which you, as I know, don’t like. Thanks, I appreciate any help.

p.s. I have said about the decks more than any other blogger or reviewer I know... and almost everything what can be said at this moment.

I have to say that I am not a fan of this gaff. IMHO (as always) - the back design without leaves (or even with slightly chopped ends of branches) could be more interesting for magicians.

I didn't know you were a magician.  Where do you perform?

No, I am not a magician. I am a spectator. And as a spectator I can imagine what gaff card will look better for such trick.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZjzvEAyA0TE

The trick you linked to is a snap change.  It requires no gaff cards.  I'm not quite following what you're trying to say...

Childhood. Autumn. Beautiful fall of the leaves… due to your gentle push of a tree.

That tuck case signifies "Class". Very sharp looking and sophisticated...

In case of Theory11, the question is always about court cards.  :)

Playing Card Plethora / Re: The Joker and the Thief Deck [KS]

I still don't see any story. Does this deck really have it? Or the whole story is in the statement that it exists.
This campaign is driven by very young people. It is so clear. Nothing negative - just the obvious fact.

I'm not entirely clear what you're saying in regard to a story.  What story are you talking about?  The story of how the cards came to be, or some story about the theme of the cards themselves?

The back design is one way; it is perhaps one of, if not, the most unobtrusive and functional major one-way design. This allows for a unique story and symbolism to be evoked; metaphors of life and mortality, thievery, lies, deceit, power, mysticism, struggle, and love.

It creates a backstory for the Joker and the Thief and is seen throughout the rest of the deck. For example, we see the opposition of the King and Joker, the way they oppose each other, each being attacked by a viper, a symbol that despite their contrast, both share the same fate…

The court cards are all completely custom, illustrated from scratch. The themes that you see on the back design are seen here. You may even start to see a story forming as you look through them. We have created something different
…”

I'm flattered that you consider me young!  My first gray hair was decades ago, so thanks!

Very interesting way to declare that you are one of the managers in this project. My post was about James Milaras & Reuben Nutt.

p.s. By the way, this “…For example, we see the opposition of the King and Joker, the way they oppose each other…” eliminates the necessity to point out that the creators are deck reviewers  :) I felt myself in Louvre.
