Hi All, I know that I'm not quite as fanatical about decks as some of you are so I'm a bit worried that my reviewing will be seen as a bit inadequate!  I mainly come at this from the point of a (non-Cardistry) magician - and their application for magic.

However, I do like taking photos - and I think that there are some pretty nice ones in my combined review!  So I thought I'd include a link here - and also post an exclusive pic that didn't make it to the review - but it was such a nice one taken on location in North Wales that I thought it needed to go somewhere!  Hope that's all ok!

You can read the magic perspective review here: https://www.bicycle-cards.co.uk/2018/09/28/another-deck-selection-cherry-casino-mondrian-broadway-infinitas-deck/

And I'll now do my best to attach the file!

Deck Reviews! / Karnival Fatal Review
« on: July 11, 2017, 08:40:12 AM »
Here is the first of three new decks we're going to be reviewing over the next few weeks.  The Karnival Fatal is the latest in BBM/Sam Hayles Karnival series.  The artwork is striking but for us the disappointment was the relatively small amount of customisation (just Jokers and AS) - otherwise it is essentially standard Bicycle faces. Didn't set our world on fire, but did manage to take some nice pics!  Here's a taster - you can see the full review and pics here: http://www.bicycle-cards.co.uk/2017/07/11/bicycle-karnival-fatal-playing-cards-review/

Deck Reviews! / [TXT] Murphys Signature NOCs
« on: February 24, 2017, 01:14:12 PM »
I love the sideways tuck cases which seem increasingly prevalent these days.  In many ways this is a classic NOC deck - minimalist design with inherent elegance.  The Murphys branding doesn't get in the way, and I love the stripes inside the case. They were my first set of NOCs to handle - and I was impressed by the weight and smoothness of the Expert Playing Card stock. The Jokers don't really do it for me, but this is a nice deck for collectors or magicians.  As usual I have a more detailed review with more pictures here: http://www.bicycle-cards.co.uk/2017/02/16/magicians-anonymous-playing-cards-deck-review/ - but what does everyone else think about the deck?
(Here's a pic to get you started)

Deck Reviews! / [TXT] Magicians Anonymous
« on: February 24, 2017, 01:09:54 PM »
As a magician, the 'masked magician' identity of 'Magicians Anonymous' slightly sticks in my throat.  On the other hand, this deck comes with some extra cards which will come in very handy for a magician.  An understated design which won't set the world on fire, but they handle nicely and come in a good quality tuck.  So a good effort.  We've done a full review with more pictures here: http://www.bicycle-cards.co.uk/2017/02/16/magicians-anonymous-playing-cards-deck-review/
I'll try and attach one here to wet your whistle...

Deck Reviews! / [TXT] Luxx Eliptica
« on: June 19, 2016, 02:50:31 PM »
The Luxx Eliptica is the latest in a line of great decks.  Like it's immediate predecessor, it is a borderless design - very minimal based on an attractive repeating ellipse (hence the name) pattern. The gold accent of the pattern makes all four colours (Green, Red, Blue and Purple) look even better.  We like the back design, the court cards with their solid backgrounds and most of the slightly bulbous pips.  We're not so fond of what has been done to the clubs. First edition come in numbered and sealed boxes.  You can see a more detailed review and some more pictures here: http://www.bicycle-cards.co.uk/2016/06/19/jp-playing-cards-luxx-eliptica-review/
I'll attach my favourite pic because I like the lighting on it - to wet your appetite!  (nb I've reduce the resolution to post here)

Deck Reviews! / [TXT] Luxx Palme deck
« on: November 29, 2015, 11:38:13 AM »
For me the Luxx Palme deck is all about the back design.  I absolutely love the Paisley inspired design - and the spreads and especially the fans you can get with this are gorgeous.  Like all the Luxx decks it has been well produced and feels like a quality product.  I'm not as fond of what has been done with the pips - they have a split design which doesn't appeal to me.  But I like the court cards and the pips work well when they are enlarged a bit for the aces.  For a fuller review with (I think) some quite nice pics (I've attached one here as a taster) check out http://www.bicycle-cards.co.uk/2015/11/26/luxx-palme-deck/

Deck Reviews! / [TXT] Stockholm 17 - Number 17 Deck (v.02)
« on: October 25, 2015, 01:00:00 PM »
We're really taken by the style of this (relatively) new deck from Stockholm 17.  It is interesting to look at their site and see how the design has gone through several stages (with a version 3 at Kickstarter stage now).
We love the court cards, the way the spot cards have been laid out and especially the giant aces.
Lots of nice pics (I was getting a bit arty - sorry!) in our full review - http://www.bicycle-cards.co.uk/2015/10/25/number-17-deck-review-and-photo-feature/
Has anyone chipped in to 'Le Chat Rouge' version?

Deck Reviews! / [TXT] Luxx v2 deck
« on: June 15, 2015, 10:42:59 AM »
I loved the original Luxx deck from JP Playing Cards - and with v2 they've made some nice tweaks.
The actual design of the card is basically unchanged - but there are new colour ways (silver and gold) for the back and the colours of the suits have changed too (now red and gold).

These are minor changes but leave it as a deck which I would be happy to play with as well as making a nice addition to the collection.  There looks to be a new release coming later in the summer which will be an entirely new back design which I am looking forward to.

You can see lots of pics and my more detailed review here: http://www.bicycle-cards.co.uk/2015/06/12/luxx-v2-playing-cards-shadow-edition-review/

Deck Reviews! / [TXT] Luxx Deck from JP Playing Cards
« on: October 14, 2014, 05:29:20 AM »
This is my first proper post here and I'm not sure of the etiquette for linking to external reviews.  So mods - please sort me out if I get it wrong!

Although this is no longer a 'new' deck, I have only just got round to looking at this fabulous new deck from JP Playing Cards.

I've fallen in love with the stunning design, and as someone more used to USPCC stock have been really pleasantly surprised by the handling of the Luxx deck.

I think it is aimed more at the gambling market than the magic one with which I am more familiar - but I could see it being used well in both.

A solid **** - and I very nearly went for all 5!

For my more detailed review and some lovely pics you can go here: http://www.bicycle-cards.co.uk/2014/10/14/luxx-playing-cards-review/
