Hey guys, I am planning a roughly 3 weeks trip to the west coast of USA in October. Those staying in the US or have been there before, do you all have any recommendations for San Francisco, Las Vegas, California or any other must go places? Thanks for your help in advance.

California: Universal Studios and Disneyland are loads of fun. The beaches in San Diego are amazing. Legoland is pretty cool if you have kids or still are one at heart.

Vegas: Lots to do. If you're over 21, naturally you'll want to gamble. I suggest staying on the Strip for that, and gambling in the big casinos. Not only are your odds better on things like the slots, but if you're into card games, it's a much more fun and social experience. During my birthday last week, I lost $100 during a game of Blackjack, and I hardly regret it because of how awesome the people I met were.

As far as clubs go, the ones on the Strip are pretty expensive, but they're usually pretty awesome. There are cheaper alternatives off the strip. In terms of bars, don't bother with them on the strip, it's just overpriced drinks. The bars in Henderson are cheaper, and often just as social at night.

You're going to want to see some shows. I recommend a comedian (there are always at least a dozen popular comics performing here any given night) and a concert if your favorite artist/band is in town.

Check out the buffets here! Nobody believes me until they try them. The buffets in Vegas are not like anywhere else I've had in the world. Atlantic City doesn't hold a candle to the food here. Buffets can be hit or miss though, so I recommend: Bellagio, Wynn, Wicked Spoon & Rio.

The food in general here is really, really good. Lots of fine dining choices.

Strip clubs are pretty big here, if that's your thing.

Lastly, don't be afraid to meet new people. I think the best part about nights on the Strip is just talking to random people and having a fun night together.

Of course, be sure to check out Spinetti's and Gambler's General while you're here for cards.

There is also downtown Vegas which is a sweet experience as well. It's kind of like the Strip, but with tons of other stuff to do.

Sounds good Alex! Will definitely take those into consideration. I was thinking of catching Penn and Teller, and David Copperfield's shows. Any other specific show recommendations?

I do not recommend David Copperfield unless you have extra bucks to spare. I believe it's $50-100 for a ticket, and it's a very short show (30-40 minutes). I wasn't really wowed by his magic and it seemed really half-hearted on his end.

Penn & Teller are a must see.

The Copperfield shows are so short? Will see how. Alex, you stay in Vegas?

I believe he lives there. In California, I definitely recommend you go to some of the National Parks. They are beautiful. Try Yosemite and Joshua Park. I've been to almost all in California (multiple times), and they are big and my favorites. If you have some spare time (which I doubt), you should try and go to some of the National parks between Yellowstone and Grand Canyon. I'm talking about Bryce, Glen Canyon, Grand Teton, Arches, Canyonlands, and dozens of others.
I recommend you check this website out:
nps.gov
It is the official national parks site, and you can easily find the ones closest to you (Golden Gate Bridge National Park and many others in the bay area near San Francisco), and Joshua Tree and others near L.A.
PS: I've been to L.A. multiple times, and although it doesn't make your path from San Francisco to Las Vegas much longer, I don't think you'll find much to do there. Maybe you should plan not staying as long. The city is pretty ugly, and unless you actually stay away from the city itself and stay in the suburbs.

Thanks Nathan. That's a lot of information considering I don't know where most of the places you mentioned are. But will definetly check it out and try to fit one park into my trip.

Well then if you can't go to many, make sure you check out the ones right inside of San Francisco, and unmissable Yosemite National Park.

Vegas - 3 things I must recommend you do while visiting Vegas
1. See Absinthe at Caesars, It is a hilarious Vaudevillian circus show
2 and 3. get off the beaten path and see the  pinball hall of fame and see the Bone yard. You won't regret either of them.

Well the steakhouses, and maybe some of the mexican and other exotic food places in the bay area. You will have a wide variety there!

How about hotels? Any hotels to recommend and what is a reasonable price. I went to google hotels in Vegas and there are just too many to choose from.

Try one of the US-based travel websites, such as Kayak, Priceline and Expedia.  Get ideas from them, check price ranges - if you get a deal, you can even book through them.

I was in LA about 8 months ago and I'd definately recommend heading down to the Magic Apple in Studio City. Freakin awesome magic shop. I'd go back to San Diego, nice there. Alex, is Cirque Du Soleil still in Vegas? That was an amazing show.

Which Cirque? I think there are 7 of them running right now.

If you do book through Kayak or one of the other cites you may want to ask opinions on places first.
For example- one of the lowest rates you will find for a hotel in Vegas on the Strip is The Imperial Palace... However I suggest staying far away from their, it is a rat hole.

Yeah. That's y I was asking for recommendations for hotels instead of reading all the reviews. :p

magic apple noted. Might even head to the magic castle.

Anyone knows if the castle is open to public?

The castle is not open to the public as far as I know. I believe the public may need to pay to get in. But I've heard it goes by invitation from other magicians for non members. But all in all I believe you need to be a member to gain access.

As far as what hotel you stay at goes, check out the Riviera. Very nice rooms, but the dining options are terrible. Still the rates are fantastic. Circus Circus is a hell hole, stay far away. Other cheap rates are Tropicana, MGM Grand, and Excalibur, if you can catch them on a special.

MGM Grand is where DC does his shows and the reviews online seems not bad! And I checked the MGM website and it says that DC's shows are 90 mins. Alex can you please reconfirm that it is indeed 30-40 mins?
