I was wondering who watched David Blaine's Special last night and what you thought about it? I liked all the slights and effects, wasn't crazy about the ice pick and giant needle illusions.
I think my favorite was the iPhone trick with Jaden Smith where he took a picture of the fan that eventually revealed his card.

is it online? I missed it since I dont have cable.
-
the show last night was awesome for people that watched what type of lighter was he using ?

Funny I was watching the same thing, It looks like a Chrome Calibri Aspire, but the flame was "Tweaked" though, you don't a flame like that out of the box ;)

Do you not have broadcast, either? It was on ABC. :)) Either today or tomorrow it will probably be live on their site and the "Watch ABC" app for smartphones.

Just got a copy in the UK!
It's really good :) Certain things are a little more disappointing than others but I liked the idea of going from a spike roulette to needle through hand :'D
A few did feel a bit too staged but all the stuff with Bryan and Aaron was fantastic :'D Really fun to watch Aaron squirm

It was an absolute blast to watch, especially with those tricks you can obtain through purchase, such as Regeneration. Very convincing to those who haven't bought it and are considering to. What trick absolutely blew my mind was how he was able to reveal a spectator's THOUGHT OF CARD in unimaginable ways, one of which was springing the card into someone's pants. The trick that surprised me the most was his telekenetic effect, one of which was performed on Will and Jaden Smith. Truly extraordinary!
And did you see Willow's hair? XD

you rock Curt, but if I get a virus I am coming after you.

Nah, I use Putlocker all the time and it's a pretty good site. I've yet to run into anything malicious.
-
yea I know I just always say that. Personally this was kinda boring for me, I just felt that a better performer could have performed those tricks in a way that would have pulled someone in with more emotion.

Don't you mean "Curt"? :))
Haven't watched the whole thing yet - waiting for some downtime with my wife. It's pretty cool, looking at magic from the perspective of a magician - David's stuff is still very impressive, even if you think you know the entire process by which the illusion is created. And usually, I don't - I just have a few educated guesses!
-
Love his handling of "out of this world" and the "regeneration" with a dollar bill. There is actually a vid of the special on YouTube

It's only a matter of time before that link is yanked for copyright violations. The resolution's pretty low, too.

I just watched it and really enjoyed it. The trick he does with Jamie foxx n the smiths where he touches ones shoulder and the other feels it was a trick done by Tom wright. I think it's on his Chill video. I saw him at a lecture where he performed that, it's great to see blaine using it. There was a couple Paul Harris effects in it too, little disappointed they didn't show the whole trick for Las Vegas Leaper (that version may have been part 2). Oh and of course stand up monte which is my favourite monte routine.
That needle through his hand was freaky, pure dedication and hard work put into that.

Thanks Nurul!
I just have a few educated guesses!
Okay, how can you possibly find a solution to some of his spectator's thought of card, color, or even related name? Unless it was predisposed, which I highly doubt is it, how is he able to have that type of mind-reading capabilities?
-
psychological forces. I am getting ready to read a book called the impulse factor. I am hoping it gives me a better understanding on how people choose a card and gives me ideas on how to force them.

Nice try, bro, but I'm not the only one who caught the original edit of that post before you fixed it. It's on 10ofclubs' post as well! Face it, you're busted - better to own up to your mistakes and move on rather than playing "lie and deny"... :)) Granted, it's a small mistake in the grand scheme of things, but it's a good habit to have for life.

he was trying to frame me, I never said the wrong name..

He who? Curt, or David Blaine? :))
-
All of them, its a conspiracy!

All of them, its a conspiracy!
So, he held the special just so you could comment on it here, where he arranged for the wrong name to be placed in your post... Sneaky... :))
-
I know right, I mean I even said I prefer him over criss angel, but I guess since I said there were other performers better then him, he had to get his revenge.

In case anyone in the UK hasn't watched this online yet, it'll be airing on Channel 4 on New Years Day at 9pm GMT

Wouldn't be surprised if that airtime was influenced by White's special that aired on Christmas day.

I want to see this but Sherlock's on at the same time :(
Guess I'l have to wait until it goes on 4oD.

I thought the new Blaine special was fantastic. I liked everything, but my favorite piece was the 'Card on Ceiling' with Ricky Gervais. It was whimsical, felt impromptu, and had a real magical quality to it. Overall, the special made me proud to be a magician.

While Mr. Wright may have used this on his video, it's actually by a guy named Banachek (Steve Shaw). The routine is called Psychokinetic Touches (http://www.banachekproducts.com/Psychokinetic_Touches_p/pt1.htm), and as you've seen, it's a brilliant piece of theater.
I suggest anyone interested in that piece (or mentalism in general) check out all of Banachek's work. He's one of the best!
Hope that helps.

That's interesting - Banachek, at least on TV, is on Criss Angel's creative team now! "Criss Angel - Believe" is the show.

Yes, he's been a consultant for Criss since the beginning. However, Banachek has been around for a long time. You might remember him from Project Alpha (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Alpha)?

I actually remember the name going back into the 1970s, as a child. I'd heard of him, had no idea of what he did.

Here's the clip I have of Banacheck (http://cardstarlifestyle.com/tag/banachek/) in the Magic Video Blog. He's a bad-ass!
