Title: David Blaine Marked Deck
Post by: ItsMagicITellYou~ on March 08, 2012, 05:40:18 PM
i have one david blaine 'mindreading' deck which has lasted me AGES, the handling and durability was absolutely divine, as was the marking system. However, most major retailers that had them before (Penguin, D&D) discontinued them and its getting harder to find these at a decent price, does anyone know why, and where i can buy these cheaper/ in bulk?

I generally see them at my local Target. You should try there.

I remember hearing that they stopped printing them but I don't think that is true. Try ebay?

Also, this probably belongs in the Magic section or the Selling, Trading and ISO section.

And it wont go further than $9.95 which is the price at D&D shop.

The David Blaine Bicycle trick decks are indeed out of print.  I stocked up on the "Discover Magic" blue stripper deck.  Merz67 had them at a good price; try him.  Find him on eBay or at merz67.com, and compare prices - they're not always the same from one site to the other.

Do you mind naming some of those places? :)

I mentioned merz67.com - here's the stripper (blue) and the Svengali (red), each for $4.45.
http://www.merz67.com/store/Search.aspx?searchTerms=blaine&submit=true

Looks like he's out of the marked (black) deck.  Let me look further.  Oh, here it is!

I made a detailed search to bring up as many Blaine magic decks as I could without triggering false positives.  Some have them for reasonable prices, but they are getting more expensive due to being out of print.

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=blaine+cards+-gabbert+-platinum+-pokemon+-lit+-white+-original+-bee+-logan+-nye+-hendricks+-stoughton+-bishop+-gym+-beatty&_sacat=0&_odkw=blaine+cards+-gabbert+-platinum+-pokemon+-lit+-white+-original+-bee+-logan+-nye+-hendricks+-stoughton+-bishop&_osacat=0&_from=R40

You'll notice the search picked up the occasional Split Spades Lions deck.  These are a good thing to own when using these decks - it allows you to present a totally unrigged deck, which you swap for the rigged one when you perform, then swap back for the real deal deck to show the audience again.

Another interesting way to use them would be to select only one or two cards needed for your trick from the trick deck.  For example, you can use a card force, and replace the forced card beforehand with a stripped or marked card.

Beyond all of this, Google is your friend - let him help you and lead the way...  :))

i found a great site called newtsgames.com, they not only had the DB decks very cheap, but a lot of other decent ones as well. their selection is definitely not the most vast, but i did find quite a few nice things there (raiders, tragic royalty)

They're one of the retailers that the bicyclecards.com website directs you to for making purchases.  They're a standard retailer - unlike the aftermarket retailers who deal in collectibles, these folks deal in new product.  When a sold-out deck is in stock and has been around a little while, they mark it DOWN, not up, to clear it out faster and make room for new merchandise.  They have the Bicycle Raiders in white at half-off, only $5!

If your supply of the David Blaine marked decks runs out, you have alternatives.  A pair of French magicians created "the Ultimate Marked Deck," based on the Bicycle Rider Back, and it uses an ingenious marking system, less detectable than the Blaine Marked, but just as easy to read.  It's out-of-print and can no longer be reprinted on a Rider Back, but because of it's retail price (generally between $30-$35), many places still have some in stock.  Someone else created a "Speedreader" marked deck on Mandolin Backs - the marks are on the right corner instead of the left, making them harder to spot.  And there's the decks from card-shark.de, the makers of the Phoenix Back.  They have numerous models of marked decks, reasonably priced when compared to the rest of the market, and specifically designed for magicians as well.

But a $4-$5 marked deck like the Blaines is tough to come by, especially at that level of quality.

Has anyone bought from this site before and have a coupon code that could be shared?
Shipping to Canada is crazy...5 decks for $23, that's as much as the decks cost. :S

If we had ze coupon code, it would be in ze coupon code topic, non? :))

Try contacting them.  The cost could be a calculation glitch on the site, or perhaps they'd be willing to make a deal with you to get your business.  Worst that could happen is they don't answer (meaning you're smart not to order) or they simply say no.
