Hey everyone, instead of uploading a series of uboxing videos one after another, I have decided to change things up. I have put together an interactive unboxing adventure. This journey will let you choose which packages you'd like to see me unbox and which one you'd not like me to unbox. There are about nine different packages to choose from, so this single video will leave you busy for at least an hour. So, without further ado, please click the link below, and enjoy the ride!

I always have trouble with subjects that state "MUST WATCH".  Because, well, your are dead wrong.  And I will not watch.  Just like the "Must See TV", I haven't seen any of that cr@p.  A better way to get people to see your wonderful idea is:  "I've had a fantastic idea, take a look and tell me what you think!"  But 'MUST WATCH"?       B.S.

I tried to capture you attention, and seeing as you have responded, I have caught your attention. Although it wasn't pleasant, you have to admit, it's better than nothing. If you have nothing positive to say, than why waste you time commenting at all. Just because you see something that says "Must Watch", you don't have to watch, but I'm encouraging you to.

it surely did catch my attention. though it was somewhat a pain to click through all the packages to see what they are. 8 of them was it?

Kpop... You have far too much time on your hands... hahaha... However, I do not... Thus, I could not click through all of that... Interesting concept, but too painful to sit through...

This was pretty interesting! I had fun browsing through them. It'd be cool to see more people do this for unboxings

It took me a while to get everything together, but I finally pulled it through. It was originally going to be released earlier, but I didn't have much time on the computer considering each video takes an hour.

i've never done an unboxing video so i don't know. but each of them took an hour!? so u're saying u spent 9 hours on this unboxing video? i thought it's just unboxing, where editting wasn't necessary except for adding links for each individual package to the main one.

An interesting idea but I didn't want to sit through them all, maybe next time you could do say 4 unboxings of just decks and then I'd be happier to sit through them all, the envelopes weren't intriguing to me.

My videos were in high quality, so it's logical that it takes an hour. I spanned it over a month, so I'm not that much surprised. 9 hours, plus a few more for filming and editing (only slight editing though, fades in/outs & background music)

If that nine hours DOESN'T include filming and editing, what the hell was it for?  Cleaning the camera, one part at a time?  Don't tell me you needed a SCRIPT for an unscripted event such as an unboxing video...  It is NOT logical to have significantly less than an hour of footage when you spend an hour on shooting, unless you're using stop-motion photography!  Shooting in high-definition or "high quality" doesn't take any longer than shooting on a standard-definition camera, or even a cheap cellphone camera - at most you'd spend a minute or two setting up a tripod, but that's it.  AND you say it took a few hours more - for FILMING and EDITING?  Dude, just how long in total did the project take?

That's what I was thinking! I thought it's a no-cut one-take film for an unboxing video?  :o

The nine hours doesn't include filming or editing, but rather UPLOADING. It takes me about one or two hours to upload videos like that. I filmed each unboxing video first, and then, at the end, I created the introduction. Here's the process:

1. The Preparation & Filming each video (30 minutes per video x 10 videos = 5 hours) - I need each video one a separate day when I got them, so that's why it takes 1/2 an hour.
2. Uploading to the Computer - 30 minutes total - I had to get it onto the computer so I am able to edit, upload, ect.
3. Editing - 30 minutes total - This does really take that long. Editing includes inserting music and fade ins/outs, and slight cropping.
4. Saving the edited video to my hard drive (1 hour per video x 10 videos = 10 hours) - I have to save the video to my computer and then I will be able to upload it to Youtube.
5. Uploading video to Youtube (1 hour per video x 10 videos = 10 hours) - Pretty Self-Explanatory - I have to upload the video to Youtube.
6. Adding Anootations and Links - 30 Minutes Total - You wouldn't think it takes that long, but it does when your adding links to 9 different videos in.

As you can see, it's a pretty long process.

P.S. - Uploading HD videos does take a long time - I could upload standard quality videos in about 10 minutes flat (that's without the quality and the editing), but I choose to upload a HD video that takes 10x more for 10x the quality.

The lessons I would take from that experience, were I in your shoes:

1) Music in the background - unnecessary
2) HD quality - unnecessary.  We KNOW what deck boxes look like already.
3) Faster data port - VERY necessary.  Are you shooting to tape or to a memory card?  If it's a memory card, you just plug the card into the computer and PRESTO!  You have a new drive with the video on it.
4) Editing - unless you're dropping curses left and right, unnecessary.

Unboxing videos are meant to be SIMPLE.  Some of the guys here tried watching the whole extravaganza and gave up after a short while.  You made a major Hollywood production out of something meant to be more of a simple, no-budget documentary.

BTW: what prep are we talking about?  Some light, a table/"stage" and a tripod, done.  I know it doesn't take very long to open a box and briefly describe the contents, unless you're talking about a pet microbe collection and you're mentioning them all by name.

I never got the whole concept of "box porn".  Wow, you bought something.  Wow, it arrived.  Wow, you're opening it.  Woo AND hoo.  Making into such an elaborate operation just makes it seem that much more ridiculous in my eyes.  If you were opening a mummy's tomb for the first time, that's a big deal.  But this?  Zzzzzzz...

But hey, some of you love it; more power to you if you do.  You're free to watch what you wish as long as you don't force me to do the same.  To each his own.

Wow... As I said earlier in the thread... Way too much time on your hands...

And @ Don Boyer - You are going hard... You're absolutely right, but going real hard... I hope he learns his lesson... hahaha!!!

Just one man's opinion, but I would say that all the excitement that is felt when the box arrives and as it is opened, is not translated well to other people in video... For me, you might as well be opening your electric bill...

I'll give you some advice from somebody who enjoys unboxing videos haha

  • Keep it short and sweet. You don't want people getting too bored.
  • Have unboxing videos and not unenveloping videos in the same thing
  • Get people excited about the decks then it'll be more fun for the viewer
  • Have fun! These videos are just as much for you as they are for those who like the watch them. You're not competing for an Oscar or some big award. Just do your thing in the end.

I doubt he'd even even see a lesson in there anywhere, but hey, as I said, if it floats his boat, whatever.  I like to think I have more constructive things to do with my time, but that's just me.

And YES, it IS about as exciting.  In fact, it's more like opening a health insurance EOB letter (explanation of benefits).  Y'know, the letter that informs you of a claim, tells you what was paid and what you owe, if anything.  I never end up owing anything, so for me an unboxing video is as exciting as watching someone open a zero-balance EOB...  At least with an electric bill, there's the chance of a real surprise, like a spike in usage or a rate change!  EOBs are far less exciting.

And it's certainly NOT even close to being "*MUST WATCH*"...

If you don't like unboxings then don't come into somebody's thread and just bash on how little you care for it. Have some class. Some people love them and he put some time into making a unique one. I gave some advice as to how I thought it could be better.

We get that you find them boring. If he wants to take "advice" from your post then he will. Sticking around and posting multiple comments about how much you don't care for it just devalues what he's done.

Brown, Nathan - OK, I did beat a dead horse a bit there, and I'm sorry for that.  I do at times get a little carried away.  The actual advice that I threw in was meant seriously, though I didn't exactly deliver it in a way that would leave one open to accepting it.

KPop - I apologize to you as well.  As I said, if people love the idea of unboxing videos, that's fantastic for them, and I hope you enjoy this aspect of collecting a great deal, since it appears to make you happy.  May you have many great unboxings in your future.

Just consider the legitimate advice from all who gave input, so as to make your unboxing videos more pleasurable for everyone watching them as well as for yourself.
