Playing Card Plethora / Re: Best "Furniture-Grade" Deck Storage of 2014
« on: January 06, 2015, 10:34:29 AM »
Sure thing.  Box tops were Originally Hand Sculpted by Myself Douglas Koozer. Cast, then Walnut Stained in Resin, inset into lid.
Boxes are hand-fabricated from 3/8" thick Walnut with a Maple strip and Walnut Veneer.
There is a slight Cove milled in the Maple Strip around the Top.
The TOP is Maple Plywood set flush with the top of the Maple strip and then a WALNUT Veneer Applied
The Interior Dividers for the Decks and Dice Sets are made from Walnut.
The Bottoms are made from Pine / Poplar and have a 1-1/2" diameter holes to hold the associated Coins.
There are slots on the side of each hole to help with lifting the Coins.
The area under the coins is Leather embossed with the BRAINVESSEL LOGO / TRADEMARK
The Two parts of the Box fit together with a stepped seal.
All edges have been slightly eased and the Finish is two coats of High Gloss wipe on TUNG OIL (which can be reapplied by the customers needed).

Thanks for the nomination in this category.  A lot of hands-on creation with this particular piece.  We appreciate the acknowledgment.  If you like this box, wait until you see what's in store for 2015!

Are you making these to actual scale?  It would be nice to see this style done 250%+ of final size, reduced down to tighten up slightly. Just my opinion from an illustrators perspective.  Nice though, I dig it!
We want to ask for somethings,if we remove the face of the sunand left it blank, will it look better for the entire design.

Now,we are working on the new design of the sun back design. After we done the design,we will get it in here and see what can people said about it.The deck will have a custom count card based on a vintage deck which probably all of you have seen it before in kckstarters.

Thank you Sher143, thats helpful.  Just brainstorming on a few things to expand our deck.
Another 18 illustrations will add 18 more tales for the card theme/captain log.
A lot of work for sure, but looking for the integrity/expandability of the deck too.

8) Thanks! I am also curious if anyone out there know the percentage of decks that contain 54 unique illustrations? (No cards alike!...minus the pips)

No idea what the percentage is, but I can name a few. They're mostly transformation, semi-transformation, or art decks:
- Ultimate Deck by Dan & Dave in collaboration with Stranger & Stranger
- Playing Arts by Digital Abstracts
- Creative Cards by Digital Abstracts (bridge sized)
- Deck 1, Deck 2, and Deck 3 by Black Rock Collective
- The Keys to the Kingdom by Tony Meeuwissen
- Clipped Wings by Emmanuel Jose (coming to Kickstarter 2014)

There's one other vintage transformation deck on my mind but I can't recall the name right now. I'm sure there are more, but I'm guessing the percentage of decks with 54 unique illustrations is very low.

Thanks to the fantastic response on our campaign that has reached $20k in 3 days, there may be a small possibility that we will reach our epic stretches.
As we get closer, I think it is important that we exploit the fact that this will be the result if we do.

We are hoping that somebody has a rough idea from the collections they've seen.
Thanks again everyone for the support!

Hey Guys, sorry I was busy tending to the ship! and the S^&%^%  LOL!
I can't tell you how happy we are to come to this forum after joining just a few weeks ago and read thee threads.
We are so appreciative of the support and are amazed at the response for being "unknown" designers and novice collectors and the patience to read run-on sentences.  HAHA
Anyway, we are strategizing and navigating the waters of the sevens seas.
It looks like a full fund and a new deck could be lurking ahead.  How cool would it be to release a new design on our rookie journey?
We have some clever maneuvers to make and you all will reap some benefits.
Thanks for all the ongoing support and kind and honest criticism!
I will try and respond to some of you individually, right now I gotta get some sleep!

You are certainly the captain of the nautical puns, I really appreciate that.

Valuable information here.

Hello guys, can all of you give some view from different style.
1. collector
2. Magician
3. Flourisher

She need the idea those design fix which type of customer

You might be taking too narrow a view of the marketplace.  The most successful projects out there didn't succeed because they catered strictly to the card collecting community.  They succeeded because they brought in people who have no idea about card collecting, don't perform magic and wouldn't know a flourisher/cardist if one flung a card up their nose.  If you limit your focus to just those people, you limit your potential audience to just those people.

Prime example: Pedale Design's "Misc. Goods Co." deck.  When it was first introduced here, it was met with indifference - the design needed some serious tweaking, it was very expensive at the time and many people were turned off by the art.  It took off into the stratosphere not because we all suddenly changed our minds (a few did, once some of the design issues were dealt with) but because it was featured on some prominent high design blogs, dragging people onto Kickstarter who'd never bought a "collectible" deck before but were used to shelling out the big bucks for designer pieces of all kinds - to them, the "high price" of this deck was more of a bargain.  When it closed, it was the KS record holder for highest-grossing deck project at about $150,000.

With the designs she's working on, sure, some collectors will take interest.  But so will people who simply like art, especially the folksy kind this deck shows.  And she'd definitely draw interest from the tarot/divination crowd, a whole different animal from the typical deck collector.

The larger the target she aims for, the likelier she'll hit it.

Design & Development / Re: Short KS Campaign?
« on: December 20, 2013, 06:59:20 PM »
I believe there are several components to look at when deciding the time to reach your goal.  Many have already been mentioned, but, I think it is a combination of your following, the amount of marketing prior to launch, the amount you are trying to raise and the main thing(IMO) the quality and likability of the project.
I have done a 21 day project (non-card related) and was successful.  If I had to do it again I would probably have chosen to increase to 30 days.
Reason being: If you are passionate about meeting your goal(usually it is reflected in what you have done to date to launch it) you will take the extra effort to reach higher once some momentum is gained.  By the time you get momentum, you wish you had the extra time to push harder.  With that said, playing cards from a designers viewpoint are very time consuming and intensive just to launch a meaningful project.  Therefore, the extra time is useful to figure out the holes/gaps in your marketing and rallying everyone up to make it successful.
We are getting ready for our kickstarter to launch this weekend and have set it for 36 days.  I still have hesitation about whether it should be 36 or just do 30.
I don't think there is a definitive answer to how long you should run a campaign, however that all I gotta say bout that {forest gump voice}

This deck is absolutely beautiful!  The detail and work that is involved in creating this is mind-boggling.  I love the added details and polish.  ART!
