I saw this on Facebook.  I don't remember a thread for it,  though.  Some people commented that it looks like a cigarette pack.  I think it looks nice,  but now I can't help but think of cigarettes when I see it.

EDIT: This was in response to the second picture. The first one,  showing the sideways tuck, doesn't look like a cigarette box to me.  :P

Well it's definitely a sleek tuck box, let's hope what's inside is just as slick. Looking forward to seeing more.

I think this may be the deck that I reported on in this thread.
Cool cards. Has the centre piece of the back of the Smoke and Mirrors on the tuck...

I spotted the smoke and mirror reference also. But I doubt it is the turquoise deck. Maybe a new pack jacket which comes with a new deck.

Pack Jackets are meant to hold a boxed deck inside of them, not a loose deck - though I supposed one could do that.  Anyway, that's not a typical Pack Jacket design - they have a large flap that either goes under an elastic band or has a tab at the end that goes into a slot at the bottom of the box.  No flip-tops yet, at least not that I've seen.

And either way, this DOESN'T appear to be the same deck from the other thread.

We'll probably know what it is on Wednesday, for those of us who managed to avoid getting into an alcohol-induced stupor Tuesday night!

This looks like an exquisite style tuck box with foil wrapped cards inside. Obvious, I know but no one else said it.

These look very interesting. Could be a new brand of D&D signature decks. Possibly moving forward from smoke and mirror.

Wow. The cigarette design references must be deliberate. The cut of the lid is functional but the addition of foil, the cut-out of that particular shape and overall design sure does make them look a lot like cigarettes.

The opening mechanism will be nice to use, quick and no messing around tucking in a flap. But smokers will confirm that cigarette packets tend to get torn along the fold line well before the box is empty. I guess the card will be a little thicker so perhaps this effect will be no worse than the corner curl on a normal deck.

Fascinating design decision. I personally like it but am a little worried about the tobacco reference.

Don't smoke!

Someone revealed on the DOTM topic that these flip-top deck are just ANOTHER version of Smoke and Mirrors...  They're not moving past S&M, they're moving into the past!  Final edition, indeed...

Ah, damn. The tuck box looked pretty nice, I was hoping for a design that was somewhat original. I have none of the S&M decks because I don't really like D&D plastering their initials on the back. Sometimes I get the impression they're funding their own personal vanity projects by selling them to fans. Strange stuff. I think the vintage plaid was their best recent release. The Fulton casino cards (mock Jerrys) are also nice, but I believe I understand Brad Fulton from Penguin was involved in that, and I don't really love the custom pip work they did on it.

Gold S&M. Bah, humbug.

Wow, I was thinking the same exact thing, these guys really have a hard time letting go. I understand it was a huge brand for you, but for the love of god, get a little creative with the card design, use this amazing tuck, and start something new!

Let the "Smoke" finally clear, lol

The box is innovative and lovely, but for goodness sakes guys, let's do something new with the cards! Clearly my design thinking is totally wrong and you build a gigantic fan base by doing the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over (was that enough overs, how many colors of this deck are there now...?)

I think this would be 7, if you consider Carbon a color, lol, maybe this was there silent protest to Purple  ;D
(Black, White, Green, Blue, Red, Carbon and now Gold)

This would be 8. Carbon Deluxe Edition was 7.

1 - 3 were alterations of the Black and White. Denim, Eco and Rouge were 4, 5 & 6.

It gets confusing for some because only 6 colors are in the deluxe box set. If I remember correctly, the deluxe set White is v1 and the deluxe set Black is v3.

Who's buying all of these versions, and why? It's not a great design in the first place but with a quantity of 2,500 or 5,000 per deck, times 7 previous versions...who has all of these stockpiled?I know that they aren't all sold, but you get my point. I hoard some decks (and you all would laugh at me for it, and that's fair, but good Lord, 8 versions of basically the same thing, just some different, and unique, colors? OK, it's in a new box. Will they re-release everything in a pack jacket now? What am I missing here...why are these (seemingly) so popular? I'm baffled...

BTW, I'm not hating on them or anyone who loves/buys them, I Just honestly don't understand their appeal, at least where there are a bazillion (approximately) color variations.

The human eye can see 16.7 million colors...D&D and well on their way to covering that palette.

The original 1 - 6 were all sold out. The ones you see on the D&D website are v7 versions of 1, 3 - 6.

I don't own any of the original S&M's. I do own 2 deluxe box sets. The Bucks & Ellusionist (more so Ellusionist) have become founding fathers of this custom playing card collecting culture as we know it. The S&M's are highly collectible. Yes, 4 - 7 are a fairly simplistic design but people like them.

Lets not forget the biggest factor of S&M. Some here always forget about.
Si Scott.

I do believe had D&D created another brand of signature decks at this point, they would have been as successful. That has much to do with who they have become now, then a deck design. For that reason, I don't understand why they keep going to the S&M water well.

Okay,  guys.  I'm confused. Are version #s (like v1, v2, etc.)  not the same as the color variations? I thought that's what v1, v2, etc meant,  but it seems like there's v1 1-6, then v2 1-6, and so on...?
