New deck on KS
Project by FP Games, First KS project
$10,000 Goal

Custom pips and change from J-A to Retainer, Geisha, Diamyo, and Ninja

To me- neat concept, just not executed well.

Edit- Did not see a mention on who would be printing.

Last night I stayed up late playing poker with Tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died.

  • Pick a card, any card...no, not THAT card!

The designer, hiding behind a company name, wrote this:

"Hello, I am an aspiring artist and an aspiring game designer. "

I think the key word there is "aspiring" - he hasn't quite made it yet.

I would say that these would be "poker-sized" cards, but to call them "poker cards" is too much of a stretch.  Most poker players I know would revolt if someone tossed this deck on the table and said, "Let's deal."  Non-standard courts and non-standard pips would be a deal breaker for many.  I'm not saying it's a bad thing necessarily to be more creative - but poker cards, to my mind, are far more traditional in design.  I mean, where there hell are the one-eyed Jacks?

And that artwork...  It needs WORK.  When I can see the pixels at this resolution, there's a problem with the detail work.  And the indices being INSIDE the frame, much closer to the center than the edge - well, that's going to make for some GIANT card hands.  It would almost be like there were no indices at all...

I could go on, but I'll just sum it up by saying these cards have a handicap of two-and-a-half strikes and two outs against them, no one on base and the inning just started...  It's a nice concept and could have been done so much better than this.
