Title: Favorite Music?
Post by: loldudex2 on October 05, 2011, 09:52:04 PM
What is your favorite band/ type of music.

I mainly like classic-rock. My favorite bands are The Beatles, Queen, "Weird Al", and The Fratellis. If anyone likes rock music I highly recommend The Fratellis. They are an amazing band that is fairly unknown.

I enjoy a range of music, really just depends on the mood I am in. Jack Johnson and The National are great to relax to. When I snowboard I generally electronic music and a bit of dubstep, just to get into the mood. When I am just doing my normal day to day stuff I tend to listen to lots of remix and music that is upvoted on a website called Hype Machine.

Some bands I like

Deadmau5
The XX
Chromeo
Calvin Harris
Dragonette
Daft Punk
Justice

p.s. Evan, no need to make 3 consecutive 1 word posts...

Ya, out of my circle of like 5 very close friends i'm the only one who listens to dubstep because it hurts the others heads, its something you either love or hate, their is no in between.

Also im glad im not the only one who thinks that every now and then.

I liked her piano singer/songwriter stuff from the 90s.  I think her writing got a bit lazy when she could afford the big productions.

Look up "Whose Line Is it Anyway?" Irish drinking song on YouTube. It us a bunch of improv stars such as Wayne Brady, Drew Carey, and Ryan Stiles making an improv drinking song about a given topic. They're quite hilarious.

For some reason, I'm a hipster when it comes to music. I don't like new music, and a lot of the bands I like, no one knows of. It's not intentional, but it just happens.
Title: Re: Favorite Music?
Post by: Gunshy1 on October 07, 2011, 08:22:21 PM
remember there is nothing new under the sun. usually "new" bands just copy the sound of older bands.
Title: Re: Favorite Music?
Post by: loldudex2 on October 07, 2011, 08:38:09 PM
Yah, I know, but for some reason I just prefer music from the 70's - 90's when they didn't have to censor every other word.

That's completely untrue.  Somewhere, someone is making a sound nobody has ever heard before, at all times.  Sometimes (but not very often any more), it's me.

90% of popular Dubstep is samples and pre-sets made by other people; I dunno how they can even copyright mthe stuff.  It isn't inventive.

it isn't untrue at all. music just makes its cycles. when you hear something that is completely new and never been remotely done before please let me know
Title: Re: Favorite Music?

Well, I haven't been keeping tabs on the experimental scene a whole lot lately but from the last few years, there's things like Aphex Twin, Merzbow and Múm.  Even Radiohead created a bunch of new sounds, maybe not so much on King of Limbs but undeniably for Kid A and that was only 11 years ago in the many thousands of year old art of music.  There's never been a point in history where music hasn't progressed in some way.  You could say that it's all melody, rythem, harmony etc. but then all you're really saying is that music is music (and there's lots of it that dispenses with some or all of those things).

Serj Tankian is awesome. I love to listen to System of a Down when I go snowboarding and randomly on occasion. A lot of their songs are quite good, really gets you pumped up.

Some randoms songs I have started to like

Virgin - Manchester Orchestra
Halloween - Marylin Manson

I don't usually listen to these guys that much but some songs just sounds pretty cool

Sounds like Fruity Loops to me?  The production's a bit ropey in places IMO and it's really not my kind of music but I think he does have some really good ideas in there.  If he's only 17, too, he's doing very well for himself.

I like to listen to music rather loud, but unfortunately my iPod dock has broken, and my laptop has quite poor speakers, which leaves me with the few CD's in my collection. Currently listen to SOAD, Linkin Park, Green Day, the Killers, and of course, the Pokemon soundtrack that I got when I was four... I play that last one more than I like to admit.  :-X

It is very unique! It tends to be very clean most of the time in my opinion. This is a big difference then some of the music i listen to which utilized distortion way to much.
