There's an interesting history behind this deck.  Most of the vampires presented are from Gothic-era literature, but three are from vampire/steampunk novels of a much younger vintage (this decade!) by author G.D. Falksen.  One of the rewards is an e-book anthology which includes a short story of his never before published.

Well, the art's by Nat Iwata - I don't think he's made a single clunker of a deck and his art is great.  It's a project worth looking at.  My sole source of disappointment is that the "special edition" deck appears to be special in tuck only - the art appears to be identical, down to the back color.  This must be why he was able to make a "print run" of only 1,000 limited edition decks - same cards, different box.

Courts, pips are nice. Tuck case and the back design don’t impress at all. The back design looks like a strange collage. IMHO, of course.

I think courts and pip cards deserve better tuck cases and backs. I think that nicely designed big bat (with small ones behind) in the center of tuck case can be more interesting. Of course, Baccardi can be displeased. But I believe that Nat can always propose them to fight batman first.

Ornate backs will be more suitable for this deck. Transylvanian pattern:

These actually look cool, I would love to have some for card games with my friends who enjoy horror films.
Do you guys even read this? Like I could have the meaning of life here and I doubt you would know it.

Even though I'm getting tired of Nat Iwata's style, I'd back this if it weren't for the tuck and the back. I thought he'd rework it since a lot of the people from the forums didn't like it, but it seems like he's just letting it be.

I found it odd that the deck would be mixed in its design like it is - some courts are from classic horror literature while others are from Falksen's book series.  It's like making a lovely dessert which is one-half Key Lime Pie and one-half rutabagas.  They really don't go together thematically.  Are Falksen's books deficient in quantity of characters?  One only needs twelve.  Or is the author trying to get people to link his books with those classics?  If that's the case, the connection is tenuous at best, non-existent at worst.

I'm not well versed in classic horror literature nor in Falksen's book series but in an ignorant person's point of view (my perspective), I think it's pretty cool that his mixing it up. That way I get exposed to more characters aside from the cliche Dracula.

Yeah, but then it feels like an advertising deck that's trying to use other people's work by associating it with their own.  For example, how would you feel if I wrote a police drama set in this time period and mixed those characters in with the classic vampires?  It would really feel like an odd juxtaposition.  This is only slightly less odd as the stories at least share the same genre.

I wonder if the classic vampires will be in and associated with the new stories?

Friendly reminder! This one has about 61 hours left on it. If you're on the fence for this one... Get your vampire on! :))
Part of my Collection updated infrequently but occasionally, when I remember. (I haven't in months.)
