Title: Bicycle Standard New Box Design (WALMART BIKES)
Post by: xZEROx on February 14, 2012, 03:17:29 AM
Some of you may know that there was a new box design for the standard rider backs, though they're not as common as the standard boxes from KY.

So I was searching on eBay and came across these:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Brand-New-Box-Design-Bicycle-Playing-Cards-USPCC-Blue-Red-Sealed-Set-/150755343735?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2319b7fd77

http://www.ebay.com/itm/12-DECKS-BICYCLE-STANDARD-PLAYING-CARDS-/300661694823?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4600d56167

One of them has the front of the standard box as the back, the other has the back of the standard box as the back. Anyone have insights into the differences?

On a side note, since when did the colour jokers appear in the decks? Do these new box designs also have those colour jokers?

The ones with the "landscape" Bicycle logo are an exclusive to Walmart - there's a big topic on those decks somewhere in the Plethora.  They're sold as a cellophaned two-deck set - one of the decks has all the copyright info and barcode on the bottom while the other is blank.  Beyond the box, there's nothing special about them - they're ordinary garden-variety Bikes, same old stock, same old finish, same old card design.

I'm planning to put some up for sale cheap when I get my act together, hopefully by the end of next week.  I have about three bricks of them.

I think the auction for the two-deck set is Jmrock's - he posts here a lot in the vintage deck topics.  With the shipping he's selling them for nearly $10 for the pair.  I think the original retail was something a little lower than what he's charging, but not by too much.  I thought I paid more like $3 or $4, but I could be mistaken - I suffer from CRS (Can't Remember Sh**).  At his current price he hasn't had a nibble yet; understandable if you're selling on eBay for about retail plus not-so-cheap shipping.

Do they still sell these at walmart? I might have to get a deck or two of these if they do I'll actually be by a walmart tomorrow, I'll have to check it out.

I got mine maybe two or three weeks ago and they were still there.  The trick is that they don't stock them in the games sections with the rest of the playing cards - you'll usually find them at a register "impulse buy" display.

Oh okay thanks! I'll have to check that out tomorrow, if I get a chance to stop by the Walmart by my work. It's interesting packaging. I'm not a huge fan but I'd like to have one of each color for the collection.

Which one is the one with the landscape logo? They've both got the landscape logo on one side  :-\

Yeah, are those two ebay auctions for the same deck or are there two different designs?

Seems like they've got different box designs but I'd think the cards within are identical.

The decks are 808 Rider Backs with Colored Jokers and I think they're awesome... I just wish they extended the design a touch to fill in the white sides of the back of the box... But they're still an absolute necessity for any card collection... That I know of, this year there has been 2 brand new standard 808 Box Designs direct from USPCC (this one included)...

What's the other one???

The first-listed auction was for a cellophaned 2-deck set, same design in red and blue.

Second appeared to be for a mixed dozen, Standards and Walmarts.

So what you're saying is that one of them is the new box design, and the other one is just a regular standard box rider back?

Almost.  The second seller had a dozen decks for sale, and displayed both the Standard and Walmart boxes as part of what was being offered.  Any deck box that has the "card design plus text" back is a Standard deck, while if it has the "landscape Bike logo" back, it's the Walmart deck.

If it just has the back design of the cards, it's a Classic deck, which got phased out in 2009.

Okay I'm a little confused about the two versions Don. Whats the difference in the box or the cards?

I just picked some up today. Don was right, I couldn't find them in the playing card/toy section. So I ventured over to the checkout section and I saw the two packs of the old versions, but behind that there was a box. I opened up that box and they had the newer landscape boxes. So I bought a brick of them since they were extra cheap.

I have been trying to convince myself to go to Walmart. They have about 25 decks I don't have in my collection, when I last checked. An for dirt cheap!

Dang! My Walmart only has a small handful of decks, nothing close to 25. What are the decks they offer near you?

Well they have crappy decks like All-In and stuff, but they also have really great decks like 15 different nice bikes like Tatoo and stuff. And they have tally ho and even titanium edition and Criss Angel's Mindfreak, and others. Last time I went they had a huge variety. I'm planning on going this week-end. :D

Yeah my Walmart doesn't offer any of those. I know Tally-Ho is a New York area thing so that doesn't surprise me that they didn't make the cost country trip. They have streamlines and riderbacks at my Walmart.

Funny thing is I live in California. And also I forgot to say they have bees and stingers and casino cards. And plastic decks like prestige for 3$.

Your Walmart may have the best selection of any Walmart in the country!

It's possible they're stocking all that on a trial basis to see how well it works.  I hope it works well!

Well, you should know the difference by now!

Classic - classic front marked with Rider Back card design name and "poker size", card design back, discontinued in '09

Standard - standard front, "standard" size markings, no back design name, back design + ad text back, the replacement for Classic

Walmart - standard front, "standard" size markings, no back design name, landscape Bicycle logo back, sold in red+blue two-packs only at Walmart. Usually costs LESS than Standard Bikes unless you get Standards by the brick at a discount club.

The cards inside all versions - IDENTICAL.  Plain, ordinary decks of Bikes.

I also hope this works out if it is just a trial. I have to go and buy some before it's too late! Also at my Toys R Us near my house, they have tons of good playing cards that r hard to find online. The only problem is that they aren't cheap.

Hey when you get that up I`ll buy 2 of each color :)

Also I think these boxes look pretty cool, sadly I can`t find these at the WALL-MART`s in canada

I was at my local WalMart not long ago, the one where I got all those custom-boxed "WalMart Bikes" from.  Guess what they're selling now?

They've SWITCHED from their custom-boxed design to a standard two-box deck set that's sold in retailers all over the place.  This would seem to mean that there are NO MORE WALMART BIKES BEING MADE!

Hey, Aaron - I thought you wanted to buy mine, two sets...  You never got in touch with me...  :))

HAHA! - I'm glad I got mine. Are you sure that's the case though, because I still see the previous design in cartons at my store.

Well, my WalMart was sold out, and these were what was put there in their place.

The original WalMart-exclusive 2-pack sets were made last year.  It's not impossible that the print run has run out, at least in some areas.  Since we're over half-way into 2012 and there are none with a 2012 date on them, I don't think they made any more.

I pulled a pack of reds out of my pocket.  The AoS code is "4111-N1632H".  This means that it was printed in the 41st week of 2011, around mid-October.  Yours probably have the same code, or at the least the first two digits are near 41, the next two digits are 11 and the first letter after the dash is an N.  The 11 and the N indicate "made in 2011", and the first two digits are the week in 2011 in which they were printed.  The rest is some sort of lot number information, useless without access to USPC's database.
