I have found a deck of these Omar Bakery cards. There's 4 of 13 different animals and 2 instructions cards. No box or original packaging of any kind. Has anyone seen these before? The illustrations are fantastic, I almost feel like they're by a famous illustrator, but I couldn't figure it out. Any help would be most appreciated, especially about value  Cheers!

Here's a pic of a few cards:

Apologies if this is not the right sort of post for this forum.  Can't find any info on these anywhere.

Don't know much about these, but I found the following link. Doesn't seem to have a great value to them, doesn't really explain much about them though.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply, I also found that auction on ebay.  2 cards in not so great condition actually sold for $16.49 after 7 bids.  I have several decks, hoping to find out if this was just a fluke or not.  I've been looking through illustrators' work from that era trying to pin down the artist. It doesn't help that most illustrators of animals in the 50's used a similar sytle.  ???

  • Pick a card, any card...no, not THAT card!

Just based on what I read in the eBay ad, I'd say these were a promotional offer - the kind of thing you'd find in the package, like a toy in a cereal box.  I've seen bread companies do this sort of thing for a LOOONG time, including "trading cards" in their loaf bags, and sometimes (as this case appears to be) the cards could be used to play a game.

Tobacco companies used to do the same thing, but they often included collectible baseball cards or standard playing cards that could be collected into a full deck.  The rarest baseball card in existence, was a tobacco premium card of Honus Wagner - the production was shortened because Wagner didn't want his likeness used to advertise tobacco products, something he didn't approve of.

Decks like that tend to have a higher value because they weren't as easy to obtain as simply buying a pack of cards at the store and as a result, comparably fewer complete decks will exist.

Very informative, thanks.  I just bought them because I think they're cool.  Now I just need a few bidders that feel the same way.
