Today was the day my package arrived in the mail from jmrock. Very excited to add this deck into my collection! The deck was very nicely packed and is in amazing condition! All resealed and everything.

"A" Class seal, c.1920

This is a VERY nice looking deck. It looks beautiful, and I love the vintage look of it.

This deck is very very rare. Most tax stamp sealed decks we can find today are with the 10-cent or 1-pack stamps, it is very difficult to get a pre 10-cent deck that is unopened and in good conditoin. But why did you get the red one only? :o

Digi... That was my last one...

Curt... So glad you like it... It truly is one of the crown jewels of my collection, and as Digi said... Extremely rare... Class A Stamp... Give that back... But really, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do...
Also... Forget the deck, did you see that packing job???

Very cool purchase!
What year is it from?
Also, does anyone know why a lot of older decks have weirdly placed seals?

I picked it up from Jonathan for $88, which included the shipping to Canada. Heck of a deal if you ask me.

I believe the class "A" stamps were used between 1919-1924, so some time for that era.

Feel free to have a bit of a promotion for your other sales, you deserve it for the excellent packing job!

Like give me superpowers? unfortunately... no.  :(

But it does make it easy to put a fairly precise measurement on how old the deck is.

A rare deck! I've never seen a sealed deck with the "A" square seal. Must have been a good hunt for you @jmrock!

Regarding the seal, here's my best guess.

See how small that stamp seal is?  It's not very big at all.  In order for the seal to be half on the box flap and half on the back of the box, you either had to place it off center where the box back and seal meet at an edge, or place it where the thumb crescent is, which might not have been as secure of a seal.  Many casino-bound decks stick with this tradition - I have a half-gross of my Gemaco uncanceled casino decks, all of which have the off-center seal, and they were manufactured about ten or so years ago.
