Funny how none of it is correct. Hahah. It's actual the Fulton October deck. It's gonna be Halloween themed.

I thought that also because of the October calendar photo tease, but this is clearly a blue and white deck. No Black, Orange or Red like one would associate with Halloween or the season of Fall.  Could be a Fulton October Fest theme I suppose.

I only own the clip joints as I know I've mentioned before. It was the only one I had the slightest interest in and the best one in my opinion. The Fulton decks are good for D&D sales. People are buying them. Why would they stop.

Personally I think Dan and Dave should have there own separate branding within D&D. A Dan produced deck and a Dave produced deck . Make it a set but each would be different per individual Buck Twin specifications. Like a sweet and sour concept that shows the Bucks individual tastes in design and handling. That would be very interesting.

Damn Don... You've got some time on your hands...

It appears as though the Dan & Dave reign of terror is over... There seems not to be much interest in any of their releases these days... I guess we'll see how well the naysayers fair when given the opportunity to purchase bricks upon bricks of their new releases...

.
Well, the last three big releases were all reprints.  New Fan Backs, Steamboat, and S&M v7 Boxed.  Even before that, interest had waned.

I really, REALLY hope D&D break out of the downward trend they've been following recently. I'm not optimistic.
The "preview" looks pretty plain, and "Fulton's October" seems like an unwieldy theme. Pray for custom courts, guys.

Pappy Fulton's Homemade Hooch

Grandma Fulton's Retirement Home and Assisted Living Facility

Well these two images have surfaced. The skeleton that looks much like a king of hearts was posted very recently and the bones D&D logo was posted on Facebook a couple of days ago.

As siegismyname said; it's looking like this deck will be Halloween themed. But what Halloween themes could this deck be based off?

Ah well that's a shame. I think the Clip Joints were barely okay because of the backs. The Casinos were only cool cause the you can pick out an ace just by looking at the back design. The Chinatowns were just terrible in color. I don't have high hopes for this new Fulton deck.

The Clip Joint back design is very nicely done. The single pip design was tastefully elegant. I like that the ace pip sizes are NOT flamboyantly too large or as large as the AoS. Many companies are trying to replicate that single custom pip idea. None have done it better.

But USPC said clearly that the Legal Department was no longer permitting any alterations of the Rider Back.  Those would have to be some HUGE tweaks to pass muster.  Either that or it's actually a Mandolin or Maiden Back - the two "near look-alikes".

If that's the case I think we'll find that the new Fultons could be inspired by the Rider backs with a back design that ties into that classic design.

I remember seeing it somewhere on this forum. But I went back to its original thread and couldn't find it. Maybe see_squared can share it with us as I didn't receive the email that was sent that contained a teaser of the backs.

EDIT: here it is. And the AoS as well http://aethercards.com/discourse/playing-card-plethora/hmnim-playing-cards/

When I said "barely okay because of the backs" I was referring to how the backs ruined it for me. I understand it looks like streams of smoke (a little) but it just doesn't really the theme of a smoke filled clip joint. The design in itself is nice, just doesn't mesh well with the theme. The single pip design is what saved the deck for me.

Thanks for finding that thread. I forgot what the back design looked like. I like the octopus. :))

I wouldn't say that the Hi My Name Is Mark deck is all that close to a Rider Back - there's a few elements, but those are elements common to other designs as well.

If the back has anything that can directly be connected to the Rider Back - more than just the layout, something more like any of the details - it's not getting past the Legal Department.  This tells me that it's not that close to the Rider Back.  Something like the Maiden Back or the Mandolin Back are as close as you'll find, and those were specifically created to be nearly the same but different enough to pass a legal challenge - they have practically no detail elements in common, just ones that look similar to the Rider Back without quite being the same.  They're very strict about that now - since they can't lean on copyright law, they have to use trademark law, and if you mess too much with your trademark, it's not much of a trademark after all, is it?  I'd question whether that would even pass a legal challenge in court, but it's all they've got.

Yeah now I remember. I was doing Coffee with Dan and Dave once and they teased a glimpse of a nautical themed back design. Turns out it is the Hi My Name Is Mark Deck. So I guess that's where Dan and Dave's collaboration with them comes in. So that's another deck we have to look forward to. I'm really digging that design.

Merging topics now...  Guys, look before you make new topics - sometimes you get beat to the punch.

The artwork reminds me a little of Edward Gorey...

I'm actually loving it so far.

This just might shape up to be a good deck.

I'm just praying that they break their trend of wasting the ad cards. It would be awesome if there was another card where that skeleton was intact. That would make a pretty cool gaff.

Then again, this preview looks kind of goofy.

FYI.  Just checked their site.  There's a countdown timer to "Next Release".  It will end at 11:00 pm EST.  I assume it's safe to assume that release will be this deck.

Aaaaaand released.

Eh. They're kinda cool. The back is sorta cheesy, but I dig the AoS and box.

The courts kinda have too much negative space.

EDIT: AAAAAAAAAND THEY'RE GONE

They couldn't have possibly run out of stock in 8 minutes.

That sold out super fast. I wonder how many decks were actually printed and how many were held for the future (ie. Variety boxes, etc).

edit: Even though it'd give them more negative space, I think the courts could have worked well without the border. And I guess they're back in stock again.

Kind of agree with you Mollusk, don't care the the courts or the backs very much, I guess it's great for the season, but I don't feel like I'm missing out on a great deck.

Not sold out at all, people.  They're probably just getting so many hits right now it's hard to process them.

I like how they mentioned that the decks will be available until October 31st or while supplies last.  You can bet that if there's any leftovers, we'll be seeing them again not only next October, but also in the Deck of the Month Club (is anyone still in that anymore?), Variety Boxes, contest prizes, box-top mail-ins, the prize in Frosted Flakes, etc...  But not for sale, because they're only available until October 31st.

That, and they tried a little too hard to make a unique name for the deck, I think.  They should have simply named it after what it's really about - Halloween.  But knowing them, they'll come up with some reason similar to the excuse they gave for the Fulton's Chinatown deck, like how it's all about what October was like for Brad Fulton's inner child and blah blah blah.

For those of you considering buying the deck, dont.  they repeated the artwork on all the courts.  all of the jacks, queens, and kings are the same except for the king of hearts.

I agree. For $7.95 a deck for standard pips and same artwork with the court cards, I recommend to stay away.

I'm told the King of Hearts is different.  Still, even standard courts are different from suit to suit!  It's actually a step DOWN from standard courts...

What can I say... I like the deck... Although skulls have been done to death, the art is unique and refreshing and the I like the storyboard on the inside of the tuck box... Yes, they have room for improvement, but are still superior than many decks being produced / funded... Well done...

Yep, just the King of Hearts deviates from the "same courts" pattern.

It's a shame, too.  The art is nice, from what I can see - all it needed was more of it.  It gives one the impression that the deck was rushed into production without adequate time to complete all the art.  Perhaps they had to make a decision about doing it right or doing it in time for Halloween sales - but even so, that just means things got rolling on it too late.  To me, using the same art on all the courts from suit to suit feels like it was phoned in.

I wasn't too impressed by the initial deck, and a simple reworking of that is pretty much an easy cop out - surely 'could try harder'?

Okay, why print the inside of the box to the point that you will only ever see all the artwork by ripping it open?
October deck, many have said it looks rushed, considering we are half way through October yes probably.
I do like the art style, it is quirky and fun. Especially on the front of the box. The court cards are okay.
It seems the remainder of the deck is standard, so that is underwhelming.

I'm sure you'll be more underwhelmed when you realize that they appear to have repeated last year's blunder by making repeating courts, the only exception being the king of hearts.  This was not a well-received deck and what I see here adds up to little being changed except the box/back color and a raven seal - or was the raven seal there last year as well?

It's a shame, but I find nearly all their current offerings rather mundane or outright unappealing - and the few exceptions often have a price tag that far outweighs the appeal.

I can take a little friendly ribbing - but the joke is nearly a year old!  That's about 90 years old in joke years!  :))  :P

I bought, and enjoyed, their Steamboats and New Fan Backs, but beyond that, I haven't purchased a D&D deck since Fulton's Chinatown.  Too many of them just felt lacking or lazy.

Jokes and puns objectifying the ladies  have no expiration date, Don. Fresh as morning dew.
I like to call paper coatings a finish. It makes Don happy.

At least we can be sure these decks will make it into the next series of "mystery decks" and "variety box". :P
