Ever since I first watched Bill Malone's performance of Sam The Bellhop, it instantly became one of my favorite magic tricks from a spectators point of view. I own Bill's DVD's and VHS's that are from his performances in Tahoe and they are incredible to watch and learn from. His false cuts and shuffles as amazing.

Here is Bill's version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GErpOl3KG_w

I recently found a link to a video of an Australian magician performing his rendition of it on Ellen. It is not brand new, so some of you may have seen it, but if not take a look and hopefully you will enjoy it as much as I did.

Let me know what you think. Have you seen any other versions of this trick?

Here is another version.... this one is just for laughs but its pretty funny: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyV7n4WstMY

LOL I liked them both but the second one was really funny :)
People say nothing's impossible, but I do nothing everyday.

Today I found something that reminded me of you. But don't worry I flushed and everything went back to normal.

There are these wonderful things I discovered the other day, IDK if they have reached the US market yet but they are Called Headphones, Basicly they are little speakers you put on your ears and plug into the computer audio jack, They make you but not the people around you hear what is going on!! They are amazing, Here is some pictures of them ;) ;D :D

I get it, wise guy, but I work a job that doesn't permit me to go around wearing headphones or earbuds of any kind.  I tried some portable speakers for a while, but they got balky on me - they were designed more for playback with a docked iPod/iPhone than being connected with a patch cord to a PC.  Ended up giving that one to my best friend - she plays music when she teaches yoga, probably when she practices it as well.

To get us back on topic.

Those were some great videos! I liked the first guy a little bit more but both were fantastic. That is one awesome trick!!

Obie O'Brien does a similar routine called Big Mike and Little Joe, it's a different
story from Sam the Bellhop, but same idea. I also know a gambling version using blackjack, poker, brag and whist hands.

These story based routines are really powerful to spectators especially if you get your "shuffles" and "cuts" to look good.

The only bad thing about these type of routines is that they usually end up playing poker just to use up the rest of the cards :P
Mystery is the basic appeal of magic. Once the secrets are known, the magician becomes a mere manipulator, an actor in a suspense drama which has little impact because the audience knows the ending in advance.

You guys haven't seen THE best Sam the bellhop routine which was totally impromptu by Daniel Garcia. It might not be safe for work though.
