Title: Different version of Jerry's Nuggets?
Post by: Benjam on February 09, 2013, 04:49:28 AM
Hey guys,
I was just browsing on ebay and I happened to come across these:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ITEM-0003-JERRYS-NUGGET-CASINO-PLAYING-CARDS-2-DECK-SET-/261166942039?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3ccec34757&_uhb=1#ht_500wt_1130

So does anyone know what the deal with these is? Of course I know they not highly prized like the Jerry's Nuggets that everyone knows, but I'm just wondering what the history with these cards is... they seem interesting enough haha though not usable obviously, because of the clipped corners.
Still, can anyone enlighten me as to what these cards are all about?

Definitely not the holy grail of playing cards that we call JNuggs. Obviously a reprint of sorts. Possibly used by the casino now?

Hey mate,

It's awesome that you are showing interest in many topics but I am going to have to ask you to start bumping up the quality of your posts. If you don't have anything to add to the conversation then it really isn't necessary to post and is considered spam. If your posts do not improve the could be subject to deletion by moderators because the only spam we like to see on this forum is in the Lol-aq

Yeah, I noticed this, and am personally bumping his minimum up to 100, and banning him if he tries to spam his way there.

On topic: Those are the decks in use by the casino now. They're pretty bad at handling, are in no way rare, and they are cancelled which makes them worthless. You can get them by the dozen here in Vegas for like $2 a deck.

Some time after the renown Jerry's Nugget decks were made, the casino switched from using USPC to Cartamundi as their manufacturer, and started offering canceled, casino-used decks in place of unused J-Nuggs.  Cartamundi's quality isn't too bad, but it's not as good as USPC.  At least they're better than Gemaco.  I have precisely one good Gemaco deck from a casino in New Jersey, uncanceled.  And I've owned about a gross-and-a-half (EIGHTEEN BRICKS) of Gemaco decks once...

Curt, sr15, Alex, thanks for squashing that spammer.  I noticed what he was doing a little while ago when I logged in for the first time today.

The ones in the OP, are printed by Cartamundi, so the handling isn't great.

Oosh. Those cut corners. Even if the handling was on par with real Jerry's Nuggs, any practicality would be ruined by the lower right corners.
Definitely cancelled decks.

(And if there was ever any doubt, here's the description:
THE NEW DESIGN PLAYING CARDS IN THE OLD STYLE BOX.  MANUFACTURED BY CARTAMUNDI.  BOTH DECKS HAVE BEEN CANCELLED BY JERRY'S NUGGET AND THEN REPACKAGED FOR RESALE IN THEIR GIFT STORE.  PHOTOS SHOW BOX AND PLAYING CARD DETAIL.  THESE ARE THE ACTUAL PLAYING CARDS USED IN THE JERRY'S NUGGET CASINO AT THEIR GAMING TABLES.  SOME BOXES HAVE WRITING ON THE OUTSIDE SHOWING THAT THE CASINO REALLY USED THEM.  PRICE IS FOR 1 RED DECK AND 1 BLUE DECK.  PRICE INCLUDES SHIPPING.)

Thanks for the replies, guys :)
I was just a little curious as to what the history behind them was haha I definitely didn't have much interest in buying them, was just interested haha
Thanks again, very helpful!
