Hi guys. I am working on a couple of decks right now and I really need an advice on this one.
What do you think about asymmetrical court cards? :-\
I have 3 options - A) to keep it as is B) to use same heads C) to design 100% symmetrical courts
Thank you!
-
As a design choice, there's absolutely nothing wrong with asymmetrical court cards. I recall a few years ago, there was quite a trend for them on Kickstarter - cards that had some difference between the "top" head and the "bottom" head. Sometimes the difference was small (two rather similar heads, with subtle differences, as if they're the same person seen different ways), sometimes it was much bigger (I seem to remember one that had a person on one side and a "spirit animal" on the other), but no matter the degree of variation I found them all rather intriguing.

Thank you Don! I'll use different style hats for both halfs of the king. See the KoD.
-
This design shows a lot of promise, the difference is really subtle, so I think you could go either way to be honest with you. If you want to be a purest; stick to a true two way design but if you are looking at it from more of a custom artistic angle a subtle difference or even a major contrast is ok. Good job so far!

Yes maybe. I'll think about faces when all cards are finished ;D
Back design sketch (release candidate):

Nice back design :) (and the courts are looking great too)!
-
The deck has a lot of visual appeal so far. The back design is very interesting - the geometric shapes seem to suggest the image of a face without actually creating one, which is kind of cool.
I'm looking forward to seeing more. It's great to see wholly original, high-quality work like this.

Thanks! I like the progress and hope to finish this week.
Want to print one version of the deck with 100% foiled box...crazy :P

Yeah, 100% foil for the tuck box on a project like this would drive the cost into the stratosphere - but metallic inks, while a little less impressive, are a good deal more affordable and worth considering, perhaps with some foil line work.

Current plans: two Editions of the deck will be printed... Unlimited edition (USPCC) with borders, standard box. Crushed BEE, metallic inks. Limited edition (WJP) - borderless, 5-6 colors of foil on tucks, possible embossing, internal box printing, new card stock (never saw such soft paper offered by Asian printers).
Main reason to print one edition with WJP - 5-6 colors of foil for the box (very expensive even in China) and small print run of 500 decks.
I am going to share a Kickstarter preview link here in 2-3 days. Planning a campaign on Sunday morning NZ time, Saturday US time.
