Remember, people, you heard about it here and here first, from Jason himself - Banshees, coming in December from Murphy's Magic, soon to be available at fine retailers throughout Playingcardland...  :))

Who else is itching to hear more about them!?  There's a few big names commenting about these on the Murphy's FB page (it's the second link, above).

Interesting, and here I thought that they just threw regular cards. I never would have thought there were cards engineered/developed just for that use. Learn something new every day. Something to watch, thanks Don!

Well, until now, that's exactly what they used - ordinary cards.  This is a project Jason Brumbalow is working on with Murphy's Magic, the country's leading magic wholesaler: the first custom-made deck specifically designed for precision card throwing.  He discusses the concept in this topic that I recently moved to the Design/Dev board.

A deck now in production, that actually whistle through the air when thrown. Crafted for durability, precision, speed, penetration power and loudness! Card throwers rejoice, you have a new, powerful utility on the way. -Jason

Oh my god, that's so freaking cool.

Face of the card. A measuring system to gauge depth and improvement in throwing.
Yes, I might be the guy you remember from that thing at that place way back when.

So, I'm guessing no pips, indices, jokers, etc.?  :))

Correct, this is somewhat a niche deck. Perhaps not for guys and girls looking for the next poker deck, but on the other hand it can find other buyers due to its niche.

The tuck design on it is beautiful.

No doubt this is niche, but a great deck. I am excited for these!

I am not too bad at throwing regular cards, but can't imagine what I could do with these!

I'm just a little disappointed.  On the one hand, I thought Jason was going to make this with standard faces and use the depth gauge on the backs.  But on the other hand, would I really have ever used this deck of cards for anything other than a drawn-out game of 52 Pick-Up?  Plus I have no room to throw anything in my apartment bigger than a tantrum.

I look forward to seeing these in action, however! Preferably in the hands of someone who knows how to wield them.

The Banshees evolved into a full-blown card throwing deck. The way they're cut, the card throwing DVD with Ricky Smith Jr and so on. Sure, they won't work for poker or magic, but there's a whole other market for card throwing instead. Plus, you'd risk losing or ruining cards pretty often if you were throwing them so a regular-faced deck would end up useless for card games or magic soon enough anyway.

Taking the cards OUT of the tuck before throwing them, that's a great idea, and a change from my usual method!! ;-)

Seriously though, I ahve always thought that card throwing was very cool. I am looking forward to these, maybe they will help me jumpstart my card throwing skills! I'm in!

Jason Brumbalow sent me a couple more pics this morning, and he wanted me to make sure people understood that EVERY card has the measuring system on the face.
These are throwing cards, NOT playing cards.

I don't know anything about throwing cards but, like others have already said it, they look very nice!
If the playing card industry is capable of absorving so many several versions of the same deck, why not think on creating a version of this "deck" with regular playing cards?
I know that I would be interested on that, along with many other people I guess.

I personally can't wait, card throwing is something I can actually do! I have heard the cards are engineered with a blend of high-grade plastics to maximize cutting and penetration power (insert Emiril "BAM!") , plus the cards are extra-durable so you don't have to keep buying new cards.  Plus the edges have been bevel cut to maximize carving and penetration ability. Guess, I am going to the store to buy some large targets! (video review coming soon)

I can't* answer for him but knowing Jason my guess is there'd need to be a very high demand for a regular version of the deck for that to happen. Otherwise he'd rather move on to new designs and ideas.

Edit: Whoops, managed to write can instead of can't. My bad.

I've dabbled in card throwing for years, ever since I saw Jeff McBride in Vegas in 2001. I don't think I would benefit from these so the thought of using them rather than a cheap deck of bikes makes little sense but the fact that they make a sound from the cut out is really interesting.

Assuming Jason was able to achieve what he set out to do, he was aiming for a deck of cards that were more durable and would hold up to hard use and abuse, outlasting several ordinary paper decks.  Again, that's assuming Jason succeeded.  Plus the whistling sound seems like it would be kind of cool!  :))

They're running a contest over at Murphy's now if you want a chance to win a deck of these and the card-throwing DVD they got on the way.
