''Who'd be interested in me releasing an April Fools deck for fun, on 1 April. With all the too serious decks out there, I feel like we all need something to lighten the spirits. Limited to 2000 each - will never make again. I won't show the cards themselves - will have to be a surprise when you get them -. Who's interested in something like this?''


I really like this idea of a mystery deck. I really like the idea, and will hopefully be able to buy some.

I don't want to put money into something that has a 50/50 chance of sucking from a guy that has produced 1 OK deck in a series of colours.  They handle great (apparently don't last long- I've been gentle with mine so IDK) but some design elements... I don't like.  Particularly the original AOS.

Thats not a horrible price. If he follows through with it I'll get 2, maybe 3. Like I said before it could end up being an alright looking deck but the back story behind it will make it a little more special.

Although I could never buy a lot of these. That's just taking too much of a risk with my financial resources.

Im planning on getting a few decks maybe a brick, i figure he most likely is making a brand new deck so since only 2000 it will be some what rare, though i hope they look good since i normally only get decks that i like for the artwork, only main except is if i find a deck of jerrys and have the money

Ughhh... the goat in the Inferno deck was NOT holding up middle fingers, they were pointed down and away and there was CLEARLY no connotation with flipping people off intended; if you thought that, it's completely on you.  Pentagrams are not in any way, shape or form satanic symbols and fire?  Inferno- fire, that's there theme.  it's surely not the first deck with fire on it?  I what way is 'blue' less offensive than 'fire'?  That makes no sense.

Also, can we all just accept that hell is not a real thing and any offence caused by its depiction is entirely the fault of those offended?  My problem is that the USPCC seem to have knowingly censored the Inferno deck for very stupid reasons, which they are now being inconsistent with.

Additionally, if that image is indeed from the deck, what guarantees do we have that it's a USPC deck?  The April Fool's Deck could be a test-run from another printing company to see if we like what they're capable of making, making the buyers the beta-testers for a possible switch to a new firm.

We DON'T.  We don't even know if Mr. Goat-Face is even IN or ON the blasted deck, anywhere!  So don't get worked up over what might be absolutely nothing.

Remember the ad campaign for the original Artifice release?  Most of the images shown had ZERO to do with the actual deck when it was released.  They were used to evoke feelings rather than literally display the product.  Who can say whether or not Handlordz is or isn't doing exactly the same thing?

To me, that image reminds me of the old "Tele-Psychic" ads that flooded US television in the early-mid '80s...  It's the goofy-looking "starry sky" background that does it.

The deck is an April Fool's Day release.  Anything about this deck leading up to its release could be completely misleading and intended as a big April Fool's Day gag.

The simple fact remains that we have no real idea of what's in the deck or on the box based on the little bit of information available to us now.

We have no idea what it is - and the teasers could still be an elaborate April Fool's joke.

Remember one thing: as of yet, Handlordz/De'vo have yet to release a fully customized deck.  Custom backs, jokers, ace of spades (two for the last deck, Midnight Edition), and some black/red color tweaking for the courts, but beyond that, no tweaks - standard courts/spots, standard pips.  They handle well, but handling's only one aspect of a deck.

While a gaff deck would be thoroughly awesome, De'vo has had a longtime "bad blood" relationship with magicians.  The early days of XCM-as-separate-art were rough, with magicians refusing to accept it as a real art and giving flourishers a hard time.  De'vo felt himself to be a champion of the art in its nascence.

So the odds of him making a magician's gaff deck are really, really low - unless he means to be either a true practical joke or an olive branch to magicians.

Yes!! I'm glad that it's going to be mostly custom, even if it is just one ridiculous deck. This seems like such a fun idea. We'll see how successful it is. So far it's been a jolly good time

The Gold Arcane deck was the first Magic Finish deck.  At the time the finish was called Performance Coating and E liked that name so much that they kept it after USPC changed the name and started calling it Magic Finish.  The Gold Arcanes were the "beta test" deck to see how the finish performed.  The rest is history...

Technically, Gold Arcanes never made it to market - E never sold them, just gave them as premiums.  And the Gargoyles were on the market earlier than Brimstones, yes?  But, as you stated, they didn't indicate on the box that they had Magic Finish or any other kind of finish, so I guess Russ' deck was first.

Ehhhh, I think I will pass.  If the card backs are the same as the front of the card box.  Its not my style.  Unless this is the whole point of the April fools deck.  To have an ugly box and then have totally stunning cards inside.  Thats just my honest opinion.

As many. You guys know, I LOVE quirky decks. Art is the biggest factor for me, ad with such great handling this deck is a must get for me. I plan on getting a few for personal use. I just hope this deck isn't all hype, and actually brings something new to the table.

A four color back seems pretty nice too, since my deck that has the most color on the back is probably my red artifice, and I like colorful things that will catch my eyes during fans.

Oh boy, can of worms... I'm not guna get into the whole story but the basics are.... Devo's been around for years in the card manipulation field and was part of the movement that separated card manipulation from Magic and One of the founders of XCM... xtreme card manipulation. This was years before the term Cardistry appeared  there's also copyright issues which I'm not going into here! but that's the basics

This will mean that it will be a vey weird deck. It's weirdness will make some people laugh, others cry, and others just confused. No refund because he knows that many people won't like it but he doesn't want to lose business.

Nah - there are already people totally uninterested in the April Fool's Deck, because of the secrecy and because of how they feel about De'vo himself.  Many people are cracking jokes about Skulkor's "brotherhood" and just how deeply they drink from their own Kool-Aid.  That (plus a hefty shipping cost, and an inexplicable eight-week shipment delay, and the fact that they didn't reveal that they were located in Hong Kong until people started complaining) are all making people not want to buy, at least not from the source rather than a reseller.  If this trend lasts, I can see a more negative response from collectors.  It's a truly stupid way to do business.  Smart businesses build TRUST, not misgivings, and don't "skulk around" like they have something to hide.

I really can't articulate how much this does NOT appeal to me. Ack. Good thing there are a lot of people in the world I guess, so these will find a happy home. Sure won't be in mine though.

And I do agree with Don that all the "mystery" of late is too forced and not really that much fun or inspiring, its really just annoying. I think there are ways to keep some suspense but still build some rapport with your audience but the stuff of late seems more manipulative and heavy handed. Don't like that very much.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned already but my guess with this deck is just to take the piss out of Cardistry, as we know De'vos style of what he calls XCM differs from say the Dan & Dave style of cuts and we know they've had some issues in the past and so I'm guessing it's just as I said a deck that in some way belittles Cardistry, a term that De'vo has taken a stab at many times.

Maybe he'll have images of two handed cuts with big X's across them or maybe somethng completley different but going on the name 'Pro Cardistry' deck and the fact that its an April fools deck then I really wont be suprised if it's just a joke deck trashing Cardistry/2 handed cuts.

Will I get them? I'll probably get one if they release them along with the other products, otherwise I'll be paying shipping more that once, I prefer two handed cuts over the XCM style stuff that De'vo does so getting a deck that takes the mick out of Cradistry as it's coined nowadays isn't something I really like the idea of but I can take the joke.  I cant find it anymore as the Handlordz forum has no archive but I'm sure a while ago De'vo wrote an article on the term Cardistry and how he basically does not like it.

The video description explains that the deck will be for sale in March, but they won't release any pictures/videos of the deck until April 1st. Meaning that to buy it when it is released is to take a risk at what the deck will or will not be. If you want to know what the deck is before you buy, you'll have to wait until April 1st. Presumably also it will take a day or more to dispatch and then a few days to reach whoever buys.

I don't know much about De'vo. I've got the Xtreme Beginnerz DVD and I've seen bits of Cradle to the Grave, but his style and attitude isn't something that appeals to me. I get the impression that he is very materialistic and elitist about XCM - although, that could be way off.

Nevertheless, it mentions that the 'Pro-Cardistry' deck will be given as part of a variety box with the Blood Metal cards, and so if that is a fair price then I'll maybe pick it up as part of that.

After seeing th video, I am still very interested in this deck, and when he said "Is it the queen of Skulls" that made me think that maybe he has all new pips. I know it would be bizzare, but if this as as customized and new as he says it is, I wouldn't be surprised.

He mentioned earlier that the deck would be good for magic - something De'vo could've cared less about not long ago.  This deck might be a joke deck poking fun at cardistry, or it might be an olive branch to the magic community.


@Linguist_: as far as I know, all the announcements for this deck and the Blood decks are that they're all releasing on April 1st.  I suspect the March thing was an oversight, or perhaps referred to how the deck will probably go on sale at midnight on the night of March 31st, technically the beginning of April.

Did the video show images of the cards?  I have no audio at work and didn't have the time to watch the whole thing, but in skimming it, it didn't appear to be the case.  We haven't seem more than glimpses of the faces, and none of the backs.  We know largely what the box looks like and little more than that.  I prefer reserving judgment on things until I've either seen them myself or heard from a reliable person with similar tastes about them.

Either way, it doesn't matter.  Money's a little tight right now so I won't be buying them.

I don't mean this as an attack, but there's a funny expression related to these kinds of conversations and I thought you'd get a laugh out of it.  "Opinions are like assholes - everyone has one and most of them stink!"  You can feel free to express a personal opinion, but if you post it in a public forum like this, people are likely to ask you (as I'm about to right now) why you hold those opinions.  What specifically turned you off about this deck - a deck that no one's actually seen much of?

I am appalled. He stood by his words of custom AoS, jokers, back and court cards. But this thing is fugly and hideous IMO. No wonder they only printed 3000. Not printing it ever again is not good enough. These shouldn't even exist. They should be printed by some kids toy company and def not but in a mysterious looking blue box. Well I guess April's fools did come early. Other than a kid flourisher or some kids show(I would still prefer using bikes) I don't not know who the target audience is for a deck like this.

Didn't a few of the users here order a brick of these? Maybe it'll be a love/hate thing. I bought two and I think they're quite nice/cute but I wouldn't want to have more than two kicking about. Good for using with kids maybe! And damn, they're sexy in a fan! But 12 of them, I wouldn't know what to do with.

getting 3 of them would be not a big shock but getting a brick....uhh i don´t know i would sell 9 or 10 of them.

I will probably get them today. I will let you know what I plan on doing with all of these "decks". I have little siblings so if it's bad enough I'll give it to them...as long as the box doesn't scare them away.

I don't know why everyone is so upset about this deck, I bought 2 packs before I saw the pictures.  He did exactly what he set out to do with this deck:  Take a little bit of the seriousness out of making playing cards.  I think they're hilarious.  I love them.  I'm more excited to add these cards to my collection than most other decks I've acquired.  Why?  Because it has a story.  It's not just T11, E, D&D, or someone released a new deck and I bought it... I actually get to show people the box, say "this is all anyone knew about this deck when I bought it."  Then I can open the box and show them what they put inside.  I think it's wonderful!

Got mine today, and I have to take back my words. It really doesn't look that bad in actual. Fans are awesome!! However, 2 will be the absolute maximum amount of this deck i see myself getting. One i opened, and the other maybe just to remember as De'vo's april fools gift to us.

I do not like the design of the cards, but I love the idea and the concept. This will be one of those decks I will pull out to show my grandchildren 35 years later and explain why it is a Pro-Cardistry (April Fool) deck. Pure fun(ny).
