Title: Tendril. Kickstarter. Saturday. Be there.
Post by: Paul Carpenter on February 03, 2012, 09:43:00 AM
Tendril is a custom deck of playing cards like none you've seen. Vivid colors, innovative features like our shadow borders and organic symmetry, custom everything. Tendril will be as premium as you can get, on Bee Casino stock with Magic finish and will be limited to 5,000 decks. For details on the deck just visit http://encarded.com (http://encarded.com)

Much like leaving for a vacation, you always feel like you left something behind when setting up your Kickstarter. But, I've spent a lot of time creating a variety of great reward packages, there are some special Kickstarter perks, early pledges will get a small thank you, and on the whole I think we are ready to roll!

Saturday, February 4th at 9pm EST please visit http://encarded.com (http://encarded.com), check your Twitter by following @encarded (https://twitter.com/#!/encarded), or view us on Facebook at http://facebook.com/encarded (http://facebook.com/encarded) for the link to Kickstarter.

Sincere thanks to the card community and all the feedback and comments, and I really hope you can help make Tendril a success and get an awesome deck in the process. You'll love it, I promise!

Thanks for the support everyone. I'm pretty excited too! I really do think you guys will like the Tendril deck a lot, it's just really different and visually interesting to play with. Combine that with Bee Casino and Magic finish and you have a pretty great deck.

We have lots of Kickstarter pledge levels so there should be something for everyone. The campaign will last for about 30 days or so. After that (provided you all do your jobs and make it successful) there are at least 2 big name resellers that will have some stock, and I will be selling them myself via my web store. Obviously, you get a better deal if you can do the Kickstarter, but there should be some available elsewhere after the fact.

Speaking of the web store, because I was bored today I added in something that may be interesting to some of you. :)

If you pledge you will be asked to sign in, create an account or sign in with your Facebook login. The payments are handled by Amazon but your Kickstarter account will let you keep track of your activity.

u see, that's the thing. the shipping costs almost as much as the deck itself, i might end up saving some money if i buy them off retailers.

You make a good point but thats why its good to grab a few.  Also, its good to get them now when there are special treats available for collections like the sheets, prints and clips.  If not for collection it great for resell even.

I've actually done my international shipping a little more discretely than many of the other Kickstarter card projects, based on the costs to ship specific numbers of decks, so I'm trying to  scale the costs fairly. It's just a fact that it costs a lot to ship to other countries, and I want to be fair but at the same time can't lose big money on that aspect.

I'm certainly an interested party on this one.

I like the t-shirts, but could you make the store "zoom" images larger?  The zoomed image is barely larger than the normal one, and not large enough to show detail on what's being sold.

Yeah it is a little too small, in my opinion. It could be a sick t-shirt if the picture was a little bit bigger.

Do you mean the image zooms, or the actual image on the shirt?  Both would be cool, actually...
Title: Re: Tendril. Kickstarter. Saturday. Be there.
Post by: Paul Carpenter on February 04, 2012, 08:54:59 AM
The max size I can go on the shirt art is 10". Now that I'm looking at it fresh, I think you are right and it could be bigger. I'll make that adjustment today and see how it looks. As for the image zoom in the store, that's all automated and I have no control over that. If you click through to the cafepress store you can get a more detailed view though.

12 hours to go!

@xmetal, will you be online here when the activity starts? I guess I might need some help. I am not familiar with the process of KickStarter and don't even know what 'pledge' means in this thread :-\

But you know I will support this project. I am the person who asked you to hold my clip in the email until the Tendril decks are released.
Title: Re: Tendril. Kickstarter. Saturday. Be there.
Post by: Paul Carpenter on February 04, 2012, 02:40:11 PM
Digipunk, yes I should be around for a bit. Here's what you do. First, might as well setup an account on Kickstarter.com to save yourself a little time. Then, you will visit the project page and see he full list of available packages. They all give some number of decks or other items and have a cost. You decide what you want, and pledge (which is basically a preorder) for it, entering the amount you will pledge. Then, it will guide you through the payment and you'll be all set. When the kickstarter is complete and funded, that's when you get charged. Then the cards get made, and I ship them out. It's all pretty intuitive once you get into it.

Thank you for the support and I'll probably monitor the threads for a little while tonight if there are questions.

certain rewards are limited to only a certain number of backers so that is a first come first serve basis. If you miss those you can usually still back for just decks.

Does that help?

Title: Re: Tendril. Kickstarter. Saturday. Be there.
Post by: dmbaggs on February 04, 2012, 04:06:13 PM
Well it is important if you want to get some of the limited reward tiers. There are often some rewards that only allow a limited number of backers and once they're gone they're gone. So it's a first come first serve for those. So if you want to get some other cool stuff then the start time is important but if you just want the deck at the basic reward tier then it's not as important.

It's a kickstarter pledge. I wouldn't worry too much about it since it's not like it'll sell out like the "limited" products. Only thing you may miss out could be cheaper tiers, but it shouldn't differ more than a buck or two.

I'm having doubts now. Each goes up to $10+ to ship internationally, and I'm just across the border in Canada. Not sure if I'm going to pick some up myself now. :S

Unfortunately, to the US Postal Service Canada is just as "foreign" as anywhere else, and the shipping costs rise accordingly. I know that sucks hugely, but it is what it is. It makes no sense to me either and I wish it could be different too!

Everything is beautiful... But with the price of the clips, not to mention the $10 shipping, I don't think I'll be getting one. Just the decks then. :(
And just to make sure... If I pledge twice, for example 3+1 decks to have 4, the shipping applies only once, right?

And if the costs are reasonable within Canada, I wouldn't mind. Does anyone know roughly how much it would cost to re-ship them? :P

I agree about the shipping to Canada but I picked some up anyway. $10 is not that bad anyhow, although some sellers ship for like $6 to Canada so it could be a little cheaper but other kickstarter decks haven't been cheaper than this that I can recall. You would think that is bad, but shipping packages within Canada costs more than your shipping to Canada!

I also thought I couldn't afford the clip, but I made an effort to support you and your company and went for the 45$ pledge (not that I am not proud to get 2 decks and a clip!) anyways, took care of my neighbor's garden for 4 hours this afternoon, and I made 40$, which almost pays my order.
I have a couple questions:
1) Can we see the different colors for the card clips?
2) and can I switch 45$ level pledge if I decide I like the other color better?
Ty,
Good luck to you and your company,
Nathan

Actually it's not that I don't want to spend the $45, it's more a question of two decks not being enough for me. :P
With nothing between two and six, there really is no way I can get one.

As to the questions about the Eco clips, here's the scoop:

- They will have a new design engraved on them, different from the limited release Tendril clip a few weeks ago
- The color will be a transparent color, so that it will still show the bamboo grain kind of like a colored clear-coat. The laser engraving will be done after they are coated, so the normal wood color will show through where the design is.
- These clips won't be numbered like the limited edition
- The clips haven't been produced yet, so I don't have a photo to show you yet. The teal color will try to match some of the colors used in the back of the Tendril cards, while the black will end up looking like glossy wood with black stain.

I'll be sure to post more info and pictures on my website as it becomes available!

Please, Paul, tell me with your honest opinion, which one you think would go along best with most "normal" decks of cards? I would love to buy the teal, but I am scared it won't go along well with most decks. Please HELP lol :D This is a matter of life or death! LMAO hehe

You can ask Victoria what happened to me during my project. First off, I would have mood swings. A few days when my total went down I was a horrible, sour person. When I got the big spenders in, I was extremely happy. I had all the pledges emailed to my phone so I saw in real time every time someone would pledge money. I checked my phone every few minutes for the first week, and even woke up throughout the night to check it.

I would spend hours talking to people hoping they would notice my project and pledge for it.

I also opened up this forum to bring people in and talk about Vortex.

When it ended, I felt like I had a million pounds of boulders lifted off my chest. I could breathe again!

Anyway, the next 30 days for you will be filled with happiness and grief and you'll be exhausted. However, when I can get a deck of cards as beautiful as this in my hands, your hardships are worth it.  ;)

I did the two-decks-and-a-black-clip pledge and asked about getting an extra deck.  I was told I could do so by simply keeping my same pledge tier and adding an extra $8 for the extra.  I'm thinking that will be slightly higher for orders outside the US.  But you have options if you want more than three and less than six, or more than six and less than 12, etc.

I believe that the "Play Me Burlesque" deck shipped before that - though it wasn't made by USPC, it's a good quality deck.  I only wish they chose a better font for the artist names on the cards; tiny and italic script just don't play nice with each other...

You may be right. I didn't follow that deck so I'm not quite sure.

USPCC has been prioritizing products from bigger companies so I'd still say it'll take quite a long time before the pledgers could get their hands onto these Tendril decks.

firstly i apologize to all which are offended/affected.  :'(

secondly my post was in hopes that Paul would reply me and upon seeing his post a few minutes after mine but without a response i got abit frustrated because the pledges are limited which means the longer the delay the lesser hopes of getting the card clip. I've gotten a response from Paul and my best option is to hope someone can help me pledge with me paying the person and collecting the items from him/her (If the kickstarter is successful [which it will obviously be :D ] and refunding me the money if it isn't) and I admit I was hoping there are Singaporeans (As I know a few here on the forums) were pledging on the Tendril deck, saw my post and could offer to help (Damn, I sound like a spoil brat. :( )

Hey xmetal, it looks like it's going great so far!

I pledged for 6 decks and a Teal Card Clip. I probably won't have any call to use the Card Clip but I couldn't resist the great idea that's so specific to your design and colors!

Out of curiousity, did you have any problems with the USPCC printing the subtle black pattern on your protodeck? I thought the photos of your protodeck looked great and you can really see the pattern printed at just the right level of contrast. The face card background patterns are my main worrying point with the ORNATES.

thanks, Randy

Randy,

Thanks the pledge, I saw that last night! Per your question, they actually got that spot on on the first try. I was very specific with them about that feature and what is was supposed to look like. In real life it's just right, I was pleased. maybe I got lucky and have my monitor calibrated just like theirs or something. :)

I should mention that their main concern was my border design, so you may have some interesting discussion about that with them. be prepared to make some adjustments just in case...

Hey lara, I know you, too, had trouble choosing between the teal and the black clip. I chose black because
1) It will remind me of this awesome deck
2) It will probably be rarer (apparently, less people are buying it)
3) It will look nice and original with other decks
4) How many teal clips do you have?

It might be better to let Lara pledge for the deck since international shipping is flat-rate and these still need to be funded or else nobody gets any.  I know it's going well now but remember that Vortex dropped 5 grand in unpaid fees and there's a good chance the pledging will taper off.  I'd be inclined to say 'let's get these funded' first.

I wholeheartedly endorse the "lets get it funded" mindset! :)

50% in a few days is quite good. I expect that things will slow at some point, but if people can keep spreading the word we'll be in very good shape. I am seeing a wider and wider array of referrers as we go, so people are finding it from more places. There is a lot of time left, I think we'll be in good shape!

Plus there will be some little giveaways and such, along with a cool new trailer coming in the next week or so that might grab people's attention.

Hey Robert, I wanted to know if you would be willing to do me a price if I wanted to buy both clips, and 2 decks. Right now, I have the 1 clip and 2 decks pledge.
Also, do these card clips really straighten out your cards or are they just for protection?

You'll need to take that up with Paul from Encarded.  I'm a partner but its his kickstarter.  The clips protect your cards and will aid in keeping them straight but there not meant to fix warped cards.  I am working on a new device that will do just that though.  ;)

And now...presenting...the BATTLE OF THE REFERRERS!!!!

Yes folks, as part of my Kickstarter reports I can see which sites refer the most monies. While not terribly accurate, as people can certainly come in through other means, I thought it would be amusing to see where the big bucks come from. So, here are a few of the highlights!

1. Kickstarter Search
2. Facebook (yay, social media works)
3. Encarded.com (yay, branding works)
4. Kickstarter Design Category Page (I'm featured top left on there)
5. Kickstarter Popular Projects page
6. 52 Cartes
7. United Cardists (you Discourse people gonna let that stand!?)
...
13. Aethercards (fer shame!)

:) Get to work! http://kck.st/xPNhv7

Well, a lot of people probably went from here to encarded.com then the kickstarter (I did).  Your sig on the forum links your site, so it's the easiest way to get to your KS from here.

How's the reference from here to your site?  I reckon that's where all the traffic's gone, it just took a detour.

Some people were curious about the whole "get the printing plates" idea that cropped up. I did talk to USPCC and yes, for $50 each I can happily walk away with any of them that I want. I am almost certainly going to do that, at least 1 front and back. I imagine collectors might be pretty darn interested in something like that too.

I'll now have to find enough wall space to display those alongside all my other card stuff.

Printing plates are the metal imprints of the deck design that are used to print the cards.

I'm pretty sure its 1 per card but not 100% sure

I'm pretty sure its one per sheet/ per color. If what I know is right, the plates are just like the uncut sheets, but it's not just one per side. I believe each color (or at least primary colors and black) have their own metal plate, and they use complementary, contrasting, and shading to give the deck all of the colors. It would be way too tedious to make each card have the right colors of ink on every part of the plate at once, not to mention the re-inking process. This is just how I speculate it works, so I may not be 100% correct, but I do believe most of what I said to be true.
Title: Re: Tendril. Kickstarter. Saturday. Be there.
Post by: Paul Carpenter on February 09, 2012, 10:32:30 PM
In abbreviated form: the plates would be the size of an uncut sheet, and there would normally be 8 of them total. The cards are printed in CMYK, so you have back and front plates, 4 colors each to make up the entire color range of the printing. I guess you could have more plates if you did "spot colors" like metallic ink or the like. The thin metal plates are attached to rollers, which spin and are continually inked with the 4 separate colors, and the roll of paper is run through those rollers which imprints the color on it. I believe they do both sides of the card at the same time. Each roller does one of the CMYK colors which when mixed together gives the illusion of full color. They have to be lined up precisely, or you'd get incorrectly aligned overlap of the colors (which you sometimes see in a poorly printed newspaper).

That, afaik, is the basic process for a large scale 4 color print job. :)

So if they are the size of an uncut sheet and in metal, then the shipping must cost so much!

If a person can get a framed picture shipped, this should present little trouble at all.  In fact, a printing plate is a lot lighter - it would be mostly the packing material making up the weight, not the sheet itself.  Most of that will be bubbles, peanuts, crumpled paper, whatever.  In other words, more air than substance.

I'd wager they'll use a cardboard box as opposed to a wooden shipping crate - those cost a pretty penny to ship.  And I'd guess it comes via a private service and not USPS.  The Post Office isn't always known for its gentility...

Sigh the black eco card clip reward's out

Sorry to hear you couldn't find a domestic partner to place your order.  You didn't have a credit card or a debit card?  That's all you needed with Amazon Payments.  Alternately, you could have had someone buy you an Amazon e-Gift card, or even a physical gift card.

Okay if the printing plates are anything like the ones they use on newspaper they aren't very light.

I know how they would ship the plate. I just was thinking the weight would be an issue.

It's alright, thanks for your concern.  :)  Well, I recently found out that it does not necessarily need to be a domestic, it could be anyone just that they need to use my address when the kickstarter is complete and Pual requests for the address. Neither, Only have PayPal since I'm a student and my parents think that collecting these are a waste of money.. just like my pokemon cards when I was very young haha. well, mostly my dad anyway.. :'(  What're those? Daaaaaang! Is that a record? My goodness people really must want these cards. I'm really excited about all this!

Now that we hit the goal, extra funds are going to do a few things: pay for shipping more cards to more people, make it easier to get some extra uncuts, buy all the printing plates (prizes? Who knows...) and make it much more likely that the next deck I do can be completely self funded (though I may use Kickstarter to bring in some 'extra users' who may not necessarily be card folk but appreciate a cool deck of cards).

We still need to keep it going up so people that flake out, people with billing issues, taxes and fees aren't as much of a concern. But hitting the goal this fast is huge, and I'm really quite humbled by it. :)

Are cash-value cards sold in your country?

A cash value card looks like any credit or debit card.  But it doesn't have a bank account - the card itself has a cash value at the time of purchase.  Think of it like a checking account without the checks or the bank.  Most of them allow you to add cash value to the card balance - I knew someone who put her entire paycheck on a cash value card via direct deposit every pay period, then she used the card to pay her bills, drew money from it using ATMs, bought stuff with it, etc.

They can be used to buy anything that a debit card can buy - like items sold through Amazon Payments...

Yeah you could do that or maybe you have a visa gift card or something similar. It's the same thing but just a gift card. I don't know if the cash-card that Don mentioned has any strings attached but the visa gift cards I've been given in the past don't seem to have any! I would check out those two options if you get the chance, maybe it will help  :)

The only string I've ever seen with the Visa gift card is that when purchased, there's a small fee above the value of the card that you have to pay.  I think I've seen a discount club store like BJ's sell them without the fee, but most other places do charge it.  He'd be better off just buying Amazon gift cards, without paying a fee, assuming they're available where he is.

Hmm, I think I do have one of those but I have no idea how to use it. I did a quick google and found out that cash-value cards are also stored-value cards, similar to a debit card in nature. In singapore there are ez-link cards (Which is used for transport here much like tickets) and NETS (Which is also an atm card, I have that with me, I got that for free at a local bank when I was 16/17 with my bank account). I don't think amazon accept NETS though.. I'll check that out. Can't seem to find any places that sell those here.. There's also something called a cash card but that's for drivers/cars, when passing certain gantries in Singapore in the central area, the driver needs to pay a certain amount, peak period costs also apply. Okay I'm going slightly out of point here.  ???

EDIT: Nope they don't accept NETs... and they don't sell amazon gift cards in singapore.. they do sell on ebay though, but there's the shipping costs which is ridiculous.. most of them are in the US only..

I don't know if the cash-card that Don mentioned has any strings attached but the visa gift cards I've been given in the past don't seem to have any! I would check out those two options if you get the chance, maybe it will help  :)

Did a quick google with that too and I remembered that I actually have one (Can't really remember how I got it) for the singapore youth olympics but it expired last year 12/11...... :'(  I looked online and it seems pretty complicated, like how I first got my ebanking account for PayPal in which my parents made a big fuss over.. seems like I need to contact a bank before getting a visa gift card, I'll check that out somemore.

Thanks for all the helpful advice everyone  :)

EDIT: okay, I think they're similar to getting a credit card, much too confusing for me, I better get back to my studies and worry about it later @-@

@K: Have you checked with PayPal?  I keep getting offers from them to get a PaPal MasterCard...

@Xmetal: dude, you stand a good chance of beating Alex's record for most funding for a playing card project!  And in a shorter time period, no less.  People must REALLY like your design - and the fact that you're already at the gate, so to speak; the project is lined up, design completed, ready to be made.  You may also have the shortest time from Kickstart completion to deck distribution, especially if you use a distribution center.

@don I tired, apparently it's not available in my country as well... This is what I got:  We're sorry, this credit product is not offered in the country/region where your PayPal account is located. Oh well... Thanks for the constant help (: haha, I'll just apply for one in a few years time, till then no kickstarter for me I guess..

Thanks Don. I really am going to do all that I can to get Tendril in the USPCC queue asap. I want to get the cards out there to the backers as soon as I can, build a little momentum and go from there. I am quite surprised by the speed with which that all happened. I figured we'd get there, but honestly was expecting it to take at least twice as long. Guess my design really hit it with some people.

I wanted to share something a backer sent me today. He's been a magician for over 50 years and he said they were the most beautiful decks he's ever seen. He also said "I was fortunate to have known some of the greats like Vernon Cardini & Darwin Ortiz and I know they would love these decks."Stuff that like makes ya feel kinda nice, I have to admit. :)

Well he was right Xmetal!! All the people I've shown the Kickstarter to have loved them!

@Nathan, I don't think it'll go that high (although I'd be happy if it did). There is the start and then funding can die down a little bit and then hopefully pick back up at the end. I'm thinking $30,000 or $32,500 at most. It'd be nice to see it hit that mark or higher though  :)

I don't think this will beat the vortex. To be honest, the higher it goes on KS the less profitable it becomes. All the decks are discounted, as is the shipping so there's a happy medium where plenty get sold, funding is solid, but enough are left over that some of the fees and other expenses can be overcome.

I think our theoretical max is about $34k but it will probably fall short of that. Still, getting the cards made is priority number 1 so im thrilled so far. If we end up in the mid-high $20's that will be nearly perfect.

At any rate, we'll all get to hold some of these soon. :)

Currently, I have just one prototype deck and am only going to be giving away the double backer card. There are some other goodies I might give away though.

K, the prototype deck is the one in the pictures and videos. It looks and feels exactly like a "real" deck. Mainly because it is, just printed in a one-off manner. :)

So if the Kickstarter goes higher beyond a certain point, you'll lose money?  How does that occur?  I'm being totally serious - I would be interested to know a wee bit more about how USPC and Kickstarter work.

I would assume money is lost because of the price he offers per deck. I remember alex saying he lost money on every one and two deck order (because of shipping and what not). Say originally he planned on selling 3,000 throught kickstarter, and an average of $7 a deck. Thats $21,000 job done. The other 2,000 can be sold for $10 (his rrp for this deck after kickstarter). Then all of a sudden loads and loads of people buy through kickstarter - and he ends up with 4,000 decks sold for $7. Thats $28,000, but from that extra $7,000 he's got to foot the free shipping in the usa. That's the issue with kickstarter... raising money is good, yet bad - as you offer decks much cheaper than normal to get to your goal, but after that you can actually be losing possible income because the decks are going cheaper (unnecessarily if you have your goal). Also what ever is raised, 10% goes in fees to kickstarter (5%) and amazon (5%).

...and let's not forget the IRS cut.

The simplest solution to this would have been making the first X number of rewards limited, then step up the price and charge a little higher for the same, also as a limited reward, and so on until you're below MSRP but high enough that you're making a little money on it.  But you have to plan that from the beginning, and I couldn't imagine the math required.
Title: Re: Tendril. Kickstarter. Saturday. Be there.
Post by: Paul Carpenter on February 13, 2012, 09:27:22 AM
hazofhorsham has it essentially right. There is a point where you reach the goal and the profit margin is just right, and beyond that you can see a diminishing return because your margins start to drop as you increase shipping costs and "give away" more decks at a lower cost. It's all good in the end, as the project wouldn't have happened without Kickstarter, but when you calculate that all out, work in the fees, taxes and shipping plus all the production costs it's not like you are swimming in dough, even when you go way over the goal.

Setting up these projects is actually hugely complicated to do right. My wife and I spent hours working with the numbers in complicated spreadsheets trying to work out the exact mix of rewards, how many of each thing to offer, what "extra" costs there are for each, what the shipping estimates will be, how many actual packages need to be mailed, what the real cost per deck is as you sell fewer/more, how many decks will be left over for normal sale, what packages lose money, etc etc etc. I suppose you could run a KS project without all that, but it would be all to easy to get to the end of a successful project and then realize "Oh wait, I just got hosed". :)

Tendril will work out well in the end. We estimate that a bit more than half the total decks will be spoken for via KS, which will leave a fair amount to get to some resellers (mainly for the marketing exposure) and some for sale on my own website. That should fund deck #2. I will probably employ KS next time as well but at a much smaller goal and only as supplemental income, more or less. I've had a HUGE number of casual buyers come through Kickstarter and if we can reach a few more people that might not necessarily be card people, that is helpful.

Kickstarter is amazing because it allowed me to do this, but it surely adds a serious level of complexity if you aim to do it right.

Hey Paul, don't get shafted by resellers. There are some fantastic ones, with whom I'm sure you've already made deals with, but then there are many who are in it for the buck, and not the long term relationship.

Sell the decks in your own store and enjoy the profit and customer satisfaction rather than selling your decks for a fraction of the price to others.

It's why myself and many others choose only a couple resellers to give good discount rates to. The rest are welcome to buy them at standard bulk discount rates, or not buy any at all.

Remember, there are hundreds of people that can't use KS to buy your decks, tons of resellers are not necessary to make great sales (I've sold over 4,500 decks, and sold super discounted rates to only two people).

I actually had someone offer me $4 per deck which is almost the cost of production for me. *smh*

Pretty sweet trailer! The design looked crazy intricate from what I could see. I'm interested in seeing the influences from Venice. That was what intrigued me the most. Hopefully we'll get some good teasers once the Tendril deck Kickstarter has finished up.
Title: Re: Tendril. Kickstarter. Saturday. Be there.
Post by: Paul Carpenter on February 20, 2012, 01:37:33 PM
I'm keeping it nice and vague, properly teasy at the moment. I've got some interesting ideas for this one. "Crazy intricate" is probably a good descriptor. Couldn't be more different from Tendril, but Venice has so many things to pull from design-wise it should be pretty awesome if I can get it all together.

I won't say any more for now, after Tendril is complete we'll turn the focus to Aurum. :)

Venetian style... hard to say what that's at all without a time period but your design looks a little Rococo, maybe?  I'm guessing these could be reminiscent of the Seasons since Aurum is the Latin word for 'gold'...

We understand that most of you can't hit the 70-100$ pledge for some of these clips so it will be a small pledge that includes 1 Tendril deck and 1 Clip. We don’t want to break your bank, we just want you to have the chance to own a clip. More details to will be revealed Sunday night on our site so be sure to follow up with us so you don’t miss out."

I really wish I had more money for this... The Tendril clip looks awesome!
Those sound interesting. Clear clips could be cool. :)

Hey, I have a question. I currently have the 70$ pledge with 3 Tendril decks and 1 teal and 1 black tandril clip. If I also want the clear clip as well without losing my current pledge, what should I do?

I would email Paul at Encarded and see whats up. You can email him, PM here, leave a comment on Kickstarter. There are many ways to get in touch with him and he is super helpful!

I don't think they are putting it up until tomorrow... Not 100% sure on that one, but that's what I thought they said. Or it may go up tonight, we'll see.

I don't think it means clear like acrylic, but instead bamboo with a clear finish so you can see the grain and it will look more natural.

Yes, these new ones will be clear lacquer coated bamboo, so they will be natural wood. Since almost all of the exclusive black and teal are sold out we thought we'd add a low end package should someone want to get a clip, since Robert at Conjuring Creations has had a fair number of requests. Look for those to be activated on my Kickstarter on Monday.

just wondering... Do you ever try to use punctuation?

Anyways, the stock is Bee Casino stock if I'm not mistaken. It's on the thicker side. That stock was needed on this deck because there is going to be a lot of black ink.

Not too many decks used Bee Casino stock. Some expert can probably tell us which ones.

I was curious and measured my prototype deck with digital calipers and 52 cards measured out to 15.66mm which is just a tiny bit more than Shadow Masters, and a little less than TallyHo Vipers (both all black decks).

I think it will be a great feeling and handling deck. :)

Title: Re: Tendril. Kickstarter. Saturday. Be there.
Post by: Robert Butler on March 07, 2012, 02:59:41 PM
Well Bee Casino is no mystery to a lot of us but I suppose just to clarify things.  Most E decks Use Bee Casino except the recent ones.  BMPokerWord's deck of course used Bee casino.  Most deck with Bee are Ellusionist, CARC as of late everyone has been on Aristocrat and Bicycle.  It’s no wonder why since its cost is the same either way.  There are a few decks like Expert at the Card Table deck that is using bee art but is in fact aristocrat.  Same goes for the Theory 11 stingers.  I can’t be sure about all of them but it’s not as widely used as some of us might think.

Thanks to everyone that backed the project! We ended up at a whopping 208% which is kind of crazy and far beyond what I expected. Quite amazing. I have to publicly thank my wife for her support and marketing wizardry that helped tweak some of the details and get it to where it ended up.

I've tracked all the transactions this evening and I think pretty much everything went through. I saw only a couple failures and issues, so it looks like almost everyone that pledged (and there are 1,011 of them) had a successful transaction which is fantastic. Just have to wait out the holding period and then we can rock and roll.

I'm looking forward to getting the decks done, the contract is already with USPCC, should be on the printing schedule in the next few weeks! I will as always try my best to keep everyone informed of what is going on.

Onwards to Aurum I say!

Amazon processes all the payments immediately but holds the money for 14 days before it can be disbursed to my account. So, while I technically have (almost) all the money already I can't do anything with it for two weeks.

I underand how you feel, I haven't gotten any of them either. But I think a lot of that be made better by quality info and updates. I hope to give everyone as much info as I can so they know when each step is happening. I'm working to push this through as fast as I can! In my case everything is done, has been done for a month, so all we need is USPCC to print it up.

That's great, but don't feel pushed to update regularly if there is no news to update us/your pledgers with. While there will be some people asking every day, "any news?", most of the 1011 backers will be happy with updates that actually provide new information. Of course, if you have new info every day then that's welcome! :D

That is good, I ordered my black and white actuators and Vortexes 4 months age, it just gets to be too long of a wait. It is nice that you have everything done and ready to print. :)

Thanks guys, we are moving right along. The Eco clip order is going in, the special gold foil seals are on their way, packaging supplies are coming, etc etc etc. I'm hoping that USPCC will keep their quoted timeframe and I can get these decks out ASAP!

My goal is to get the Kickstarter decks out as quickly as I can so that I can clear the room, get the leftover decks in my store and work on the other products and my next deck. Things have been real smooth so far so I hope that continues. :)

I'd love to do a video review, but without a decent camera it's kind of a problem, so I didn't check. Though if I do get a good camera in time, I definitely would. ;)

Any camera with a halfway decent microphone and at least 640x480 resolution would do just fine - most still cameras these days would fit the bill, as would many cellphones and smartphones.  You can make up for a lot with judicious editing, something a lot of deck review videos leave out.

The Tendrils have arrived!

"
Tendril is here, all the info you need... The day has finally come!
5,000 Tendril decks and uncut sheets were delivered today and they look amazing! "

"

I have a few chores to complete before shipments can begin in earnest, so later this week the bulk of shipments will start. I have to spend some time signing all of the uncut sheets, getting the Gold Seal decks together, signing the 150 bonus cards for the first Kickstarter backers, accommodating the hundreds of special requests and then working through the logistics of managing over 1000 packages.
I would humbly request that you not email me asking if your particular package has shipped. I will be doing things in batches over the coming days, and you will receive an email with your USPS tracking notification once your item ships.
I will do my best to get all orders out as efficiently as possible but please remember that I am doing this myself, not using a costly fulfillment house so it may take a short while for everything to come together. I will do my best to fulfill all packages in the original May timeframe I stated on Kickstarter.
Along with the Kickstarter orders, the website pre-orders will be going out very soon, and a fresh stock of decks and the remaining uncut sheets will be in the store today (http://store.encarded.com).

Thanks to everyone that supported Tendril along the way. Very soon you'll see the product of your support. Make sure to stay tuned to the Encarded.com (http://encarded.com/undefined/) and our Facebook (http://facebook.com/encarded) and Twitter (http://twitter.com/encarded) for more info and sneak peeks of our next deck, Aurum (http://encarded.com/index.php?id=27).
Thanks again,
