CAMPAIGN:

Dear friends,

I would like to share with you my latest deck of the Texture Series available in KS for a few days: The Bicycle MARBLE Rider Back deck.

As you probably know by now, the USPCC won't allow any variation or modification over the Rider Back from the beginning of 2018. Although the release was planned for the early 2018, as soon as I realized this new policy I decided to try to fund it before the end of the year to have it ready so this is the very last opportunity to print this deck and probably, if funded, the last Rider Back deck in the history with a changed back.

Working with the USPCC and with rider backs has always been very complicated. This change has been a blow for the series that had foreseen at least three or four more decks, but it is a new and important challenge in the vision of the series that I hope will not die with this new policy of the USPCC.

I really hope you enjoy the designs and I will go on informing you as always about the progress of this and future decks.

It is a pleasure to share with this always supportive community.

Thanks!

Andy, from Card Experiment, has asked me for sharing with your their latest project. After cancelling their very first project in KS, they have decided to try again with a new design, something different from the decks they usually design. The project is already funded.

REALMS is inspired by the Samsara philosophical belief and the design and will be printed by EPCC.

You can visit to the project here:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cardexperiment/realms-playing-cards

And, of course, only if you want, you can read about it in Max Playing Cards ;) here:

Best wishes to all!

Hello friends!

I am sorry for having been so far for a long time. I would have sworn I already posted about it but I have seen I didn't.

So, let me please let you know Collectable Playing Cards have launched my second deck in the TEXTURE series: the Bicycle Wood Rider Back deck.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2104052526/bicycle-wood-rider-back-playing-cards-by-max

I am really happy about the final result but you can judge by yourselves.

The project is on in Kickstarter so you can visit the campaign and see all about it (or even pledge for it)

Thanks a lot for your kindness and in advance for your help in the project

Max

Dear friends,

I thought you already talked about this deck by Toronto Playing Cards Co. but as far as I haven't seen it and I recently published an Interview with the artists, I thought you could be interested on the deck (that, in my opinion, is quite interesting).

Here you have the link to the article in case you are interested about the story and inspiration behind it (of course, you can also link to the project website if interested).

Thanks!

PS: attached the images of the cards too:

The previous campaign by John Rangel seems to be a collection of original pictures painted by van Gogh.

I think the point here is that the artwork for this deck is not taken from van Gogh's original work. This is a new artwork by J. Whaam using van Gogh's techniques. I think that's the originality of the deck and its interest from the artistic point of view...

Here is a quote from the mail i got directly from T11

"...The first run of these was very small in quantity so there is a limit of 72 decks per color (red / black) for our wholesalers. We do plan on re-printing more, those should be in within the month we hope..."

At this point, I am a bit confused...

They said there were quite limited, then they said (after releasing in T11) they were unlimited

And now, they are quite limited again.

Should we understand there are two different print runs or what T11 is selling are the last decks from the first print?

Hello friends!

we are entering in the last week of the campaign. We have been working along last weeks to offer our backers something special and finally here it is: THE METAL CARD.

This engraved (not painted) metal card will be a gift for those backers with pledges over $60 and it is also an add-on.

I hope you like the card.

Love it Max. Very cool gift for over $60 pledgers. Will be very interesting to see when I have one in my hands. I really appreciate the time you've put into the metal card. Even though it won't be used as a playing card you've still taken pains to insure it looked like a proper two way back. Very nicely done. :D

Thank you for the compliments @Fes. I really appreciate you noticed how much work has been invested on every single detail.

Scott have just now contacted me saying this was a confusion... That's all

Hey Don,

Thanks for the wonderful reply. You're right we should seriously think about retooling the project. Thanks for giving me the advice. As for MCP, please ignore it. We asked him if it was okay to mention him but I think we misunderstood. Anyways were going to take Dons advise and close this project soon. Thanks for all your support, Thanks.

Well, having in mind I write about decks, asking if you can mention me makes me assume you would say I wrote about you, and not I am your partner.

I sincerely think (and want to think) this is a misunderstanding. I am more than happy of talking about your deck and also trying to give you tips about the way you can improve the project. As I told you in my personal email, I believe your project has a lot of potential and I am sure you can do it without "partnering" with anyone. Nevertheless, I would have appreciate to receive your answer to my personal email about this thing before.

Good luck!

Hello all,

although my position tends to be always discreet and never aerate issues without talking to the responsible, I need to intervene in this matter before it goes beyond.

I have discovered reading this thread and thanks to Rose that Max Playing Cards was mentioned in the project. I was a bit confused as I have not finished yet the articles, but my surprise was much bigger when I saw MPC was mentioned as a kind of partner of the project.

Max Playing Cards or myself have nothing to do with this project beyond the usual articles I like to write about other decks to promote other's works. I was contacted by Scott for some advisement about the project and I told I would be pleased to talk about the deck in an article, but I never authorized to be featured like a "partner" (that is the impression I have reading that).

I have already written Scott about this and asked him to take out MPC name. I will be pleased to write about the deck. I sincerely like the design and the idea, but I don't like the way this thing has be handled.

I sincerely want to think this has been a misunderstanding.but I don't feel very comfortable with this situation. That's why I needed to state this clearly.

Best wishes to all.

I like this 'vintage' style.

This deck's a number of years old now.  All of the oldest Ellusionist decks have the Rider Back design on them, like this one.  It's sort of the granddaddy of the vintage-look deck.  There were a few other attempts made before, but one looks like it was simply dumped in toxic waste (hence it's called the "Bicycle Dirty Deck", in two nasty-looking color schemes), and the other, by Magic Makers and called the Bicycle Faded Deck, looks like the ink was painted on and that the paint is cracking after a few decades of rain, sun, cold and wind.  Magic Makers was kind enough to include gaff cards.  (To add confusion, some dealers call the Dirty Deck the Faded Deck as well.)  This was the first to have some kind of a more "realistic" look to it.

All of the above-mentioned designs have a subtle-enough one-way back, but the Series 1800 was unique among all one-way backs I've seen for one reason.  In most cases of decks with one-way backs, even ones with hidden or subtle one-way backs, the backs and faces are oriented the same way relative to each other, meaning that a "correct-edge up" back can be rotated along the vertical axis to reveal that the face is also "correct-edge up".  The Series 1800, however, had the backs oriented "correctly" on some cards, "rotated" on others.  This way, when the backs are all oriented the same way to each other, the faces will be a mix of correctly and incorrectly oriented, giving the pack a more mixed-up appearance from the front and deepening the illusion of the cards not being arranged in any special manner.

There was a company a few years ago that was advertising "Pale Riders" - a genuinely faded-look pack of Bicycle Rider Backs, sort of a "ghostly afterimage" - but it was discovered that it was meant not as a mass-produced item but as a magicians' gaff deck and it never made it to market because the "manufacturing process" involved taking regular consumer-issue off-the-shelf packs and chemically treating them to make the inks fade - they never quite perfected the process to reliably produce a decent amount of decks in an economically-viable manner.

Thank you so much Don for clarifying the Pale decks thing... I wasn't sure if they really existed or not. I saw it in Aaron Magic many years ago and I lost the trace. By the way that image of the Australian decks confuses me. Is that the typical cardboard over the real deck or the deck has that aspect?

I know there are several versions of this 1800 decks noticeable in the logo and tuck case. I know not many people is so crazy (as I am) to collect every variation, specially first editions and version, but I would like to have some kind of guide about that in someway (I have tried to contact Ellusionist and T11 about 1st editions of some decks but never got their answer).

Thanks!

Thank you so much Fes,

I have one deck already designed as the second one in the series: The Wood deck. It needs some work but basically the artwork is completed.

I have ideas for more decks but I really need to deeply breath and wait for the project to advance. The beginning has been stunning and I am really grateful but you know the cost to make a deck is much more than the funding goal so let's see what happens along next days.

We are working on something like an add-on or even a free add-on but we need more time to be sure we can do it as there are legal aspects we do want to solve before any single step.

Keep informed.

Best wishes

Max

Very impressed with the look of this deck and I'm quite happy to back it. If it follows the trend lately it'll look even more incredible when it's in our hands. Great work Max!  :D

Just bumped up my pledge, I think I understand about the difficulty after looking at more. Are the nuts and bolts actually 3 dimensional on the coin? I don't think they'll be mobile but like actually there, there? If what I'm seeing is actually translated to the coin as is, WOW!

Thank you Fes! In Love you like what you see!!! :)

Yes, screws and nuts are supossed to stand out in the coin. Of course they won't move as they form part of the artwork and it depends a lot on the deepness of the coin mold as there are logical limitations due to the coin thickness.....

24
Hello!

sorry for the late reply and for not informing you before about this new deck. I have been quite busy and a bit disconnected along last months and the project have been released just today.

I sincerely hope you like the design. I have worked hard on it to make something different.

Best wishes and thanks for your support.
