Hello,

My name is Alex Nghiem. Greeting to you all. :D

Im a designer and magician from Melbourne, Australia.

What you are looking at is one of my playingcard design project I have been working on for awhile and I call it Ardent.

Available in 2 colours Green (Ardent Prasinus) and Maroon ( Ardent Crimson)

Here is the back designs of the deck. The project has finished and i will upload more pictures soon.

Please let me know what do you think.

Thank you for your time  :)

Alex Nghiem

note: the images quality has been reduced so the colors are lighter than the actual cards.

Hi Welcome to the forum Alex  :)

I'm Hank and also from Melbourne  :D

If you can post the faces it will be great.. and are you going to put this project on Kickstarter?

When I look closer on the back of the card (especially the red one) It looks like a blue print of city fountain  :P two main building on top and bottom of the cards, fountain at the center,  plus the road crossing.. not bad though  ;D

Thank you Hank for your response. Im so glad so see a "melbourian" here. :D

I will upload the pictures of aces and court cards soon.

Ardent is inspired by early 1900s linen design and as you can see at the back of the card, its the collection of lines and small curves which pretty similar with most of the blue print. Stay simple but effective i guess.

The Ardent Prasinus is inspired by The Expert At The Card Table ( early 1900s) so thats why i pick gold and dark green ( the picture is lighter than the actual card)

Ardent Crimson is all about burning, shining and victorious. :D

What are you planning to do regarding the faces?  Custom?  Standard?  Slightly-modified Standard?

Could be.  There's style similarities, but there's design differences - and we have yet to see the faces.  Too soon to pass judgment!  :))

I'm excited that Ardent Playing Cards are finally seeing the light of day! Ever since Alex showed me this deck in detail, I've been eager to help him with anything he may need. We've been talking a lot about Ardent over the last couple weeks and really look forward to making it a reality. If anyone has any questions... just let us know!

So, court cards?

Stay tuned. We're placing any further publicity on hold. Nothing bad. Just slowing it down for the time being.

This one is my favourite, so far :)

My only suggestion: maybe some lines are too thin.

Can't wait to see the courts!

  • Charm gets you quite far. Guile gets you the rest.
Sad to not see this in the official contest, would have gotten my vote.
Kickstarter completely revolutionized the way I waste money.

Are you sure?  There's not a single card face to be seen anywhere here.

I like the back quite a bit, and the only faces I saw in the contest were the 9 lives deck which wasn't really working for me, I'm particular about my fantasy art and it didn't quite make the cut. Standard faces with this back would have made it good enough.

Very true.  But in a design contest, a deck with standard faces would seem to be working at a disadvantage unless it was some kind of really kick-ass design.

It's almost silly that so few people even tried entering.  With so few entrants, each one stands a massive chance of success, and success means your deck gets made and you get roughly $3,000 to $4,000 worth of free product, depending on the retail cost of the deck once it sells.  More, if it's a sellout and rises quickly in value.

Yeah... I am kicking myself for not entering...
