Playing Card Plethora / Re: Year of the Snake Deck [UK Card Company]
« on: March 15, 2013, 10:05:29 PM »
It looks cheesy... :-\

The initial listing was a "Buy It Now" for an unspecified number of these decks - it showed up as something like "10+" if I recall.  It's not impossible that he'd relist in the future, but he didn't need to at the time since he already had an ongoing listing - he could have just raised the quantity and kept on selling.

He relisted the Garden No.3. Maybe he thinks it's the best way to send only a single deck with such a small envelope :karrit:

I just picked up one deck from this ebay seller. Pretty happy with the price overall, definitely a fair deal with the free shipping

I ever bought a deck from him and think he is an experienced international seller. He uses a small envelope to ship a single deck with tracking number. The deck was wrapped with cardboard and bubble and arrived safely. (see the attached pics)

Then you got one of the last ones - the listing is now closed!

Not exactly. As you may see, the deck I bought is a ToTo and now he still has a ToTo on his auctions. I think he will list another Garden No.3 when Curl's one is sent.

in case any one missed out i stumbled across this on eBay.

its funny but with the free shipping its still cheaper than from the website (if you only wanted one)

oh by the way its not me selling in case you were wondering. :)

I did notice that the seller is based in Hong Kong.  If I recall, Hong Kong was excluded from the Aloys Studio sale because they got access to the China-only sale.  Meaning this person probably got the decks and shipping for much less, for what that's worth.

USPS shipping is too expensive now. I got the decks from China and the postage was only $3.2. And of course that seller may sell the deck with that price, not to mention if he is a playing card retailer.

5
I got some from a friend in China because I don't want to be killed by USPS international postage :mindf-ck: :mindf-ck:

China got the lion's share anyway - leave the rest for us!  :))

Actually it could have missed the chance to buy this deck if I didn't know some collectors in China. No one sells this deck in Taiwan and no Taiwanese uses Taobao. Also, this page states I can not buy it: http://www.aloysstudio.com/goods-41724.html  >:( >:(

Fortunately I got 6 decks from a friend with reasonable shipping fee anyway.

Hey, Digipunk - what country are you shipping from?

Thank you again Don, I just added the information in the starting post. :-\

BTW, considering some buyers don't want to expose their personal information, I won't show their location, name, and pics of package in that shipping progress post.

All that's necessary is their board name - not their real name, address, etc.

I see, I can obey the rules without doubt. But some of them don't even want their board name showed here and I have to respect their decision.

A Cellar of Fine Vintages / Re: Playboy Casino Atlantic City Deck
« on: February 23, 2013, 09:10:11 AM »
I totally agree with runit :-\

There are 5 series of Playboy playing cards:
  • Bicycle Playboy decks (blue & red)
  • Bee Playboy decks (solid back, green & orange)
  • Bee Playboy decks (diamond back, green & orange)
  • European Playboy decks (solid back, non-USPCC, same design with #2, many colors except green & orange, without tuck box)
  • garbage Playboy decks
2 years ago, the diamond-backed Playboy decks in dealingdecues were sold for $49.9 or $59.9 (I forget), now they just raised the price to $99.9 :-\

EDIT: To my knowledge, the official Playboy Atlantic City decks are #2.

I know the odds are next to nil, but if you should come across that set again, I'd be interested.

OK, next time I will ask you directly if I should come across another set. I got this set 2 years ago, but it always lays in my electronic moisture-proof cabinet. I already have a pale blue TH and am not used to wearing a watch. After considering, I thought maybe someone else would like this set and cherish it more than me. That's why I listed it here. I believe the price I asked for is not unreasonable.

As for "trading", actually I won't trade my items for modern decks (even my items are modern decks too) because I can buy almost all modern decks in Taiwan with acceptable prices and very fast delivery. In other words, I don't need to trade. Only a few modern decks I might be interested in and would like to trade or buy, for example, Transducer Aqua decks or the Japan-made Club Angel v2 decks.

Hi guys, I just added item#5 in the list. Contact me if interested. ;)

I'm very interested!  Can we toss in some trade as well?  PM me!

I am just back from outside and sorry someone had sent me a mail before your post :(
This package will go to China too.

Playing Card Plethora / Re: Takefu, by Eric Duan
« on: February 19, 2013, 01:35:57 AM »
When plugged into Google Translate in a Japanese-to-English translation, those two characters translate as "takefu", of all things...  :))  It popped out first with an alternate "translation", "takeo".  Neither means a blasted thing in English - Google Translate does a horrible job translating syllabaries and Asian characters.

I just edited my post and explained the meaning of "武生", they are male characters in beijing opera.
The joker is Guan-Yu, the strongest and most powerful warrior in Chinese history. You might know him from comics or video games (see the attachment) :)

Playing Card Plethora / Re: Takefu, by Eric Duan
« on: February 19, 2013, 01:17:50 AM »

I can read the "生" which means Student or  Birth in Chinese. But in Japanese this character means Raw, Crude, Pure,
The first Character I can't quite make out because the ink is all over the place but if I'm not mistaken it might be this charater "武" which is the Chinese for Fierce, or martial (as in martial arts) this is also the first character for WUSHU a Chinese martial arts.

Then again the first character might also be "龙" which is the character for Dragon.

so 龙生 together might be the best choice "birth of the dragon" or "dragon's purity" There is no real translation to it.

**sigh** my Chinese is really rusty.

The deck is called "武生" in Chinese ;)

As you said, "武" means force, weapon, or martial arts. And "生" means a male character (normally the leading role).

Playing Card Plethora / Re: where can I buy orange tally ho?
« on: February 18, 2013, 12:18:02 AM »
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-deck-Tally-Ho-Orange-Playing-Cards-/170983256913?

From Taiwan though. I couldn't find it the regular way. I had to find completed auctions and then the owner had relisted them.

That is the largest playing card seller in Taiwan and is the official USPCC retailer here, I often buy cards from them. The orange TH is about $7 or $8 here, FYI.

Just got mine and handled for... about 30 seconds and it's enough for me to say the Legends deck is identical to the White Moth/Myth in all respects (stock, finish/coating, handling, etc) except the design. Having been playing with White Moth for months, I should be very familiar with the handling of the Legends.

@Don, I really appreciate your spirit of research and contribution to the playing card community. :)

*EDIT: and yes, they are traditionally cut but difficult to do faro shuffle straight out the box. If someone want to practice table faro, I would suggest using other decks. Table faro is considered one of the most difficult sleights, using this deck will only discourage you and make you feel less confident (and hurt the cards).

22
Pearl is to dragon as Koi is to waterfall

@Don, actually I agree with brownmagician's opinion. They are simply two 4-character Chinese idioms and don't seem to have any direct/indirect relationship to each other, according to my knowledge. Dragons like to chase (or play with) pearls, and carps have to leap over the Dragon's Gate so that they can become dragons (i.e, challenge and success).

23
I will get these decks tomorrow simply because so many people here discussing them >:(

I just ordered a set from our online auction website. 2 weeks ago I saw they're there, but none of them had been sold until I ordered the first set. Legends decks are not popular here in Taiwan, I believe it's because there have been many newly released decks involving dragons in these 2 years, such as Bicycle red/blue/golden (western) dragon decks, Eric Duan's Tetralogy series, and the DD chinatowns.

24
really hard to believe this  ::) ::)

[DELETED BY MODERATOR FOR SPAMMING]

DigiPunk, Please do not spam here, he is asking a Legitimate question about where the Legends deck and such are being printed in Taiwan.

Sorry to Joshua and Frost, I just thought it's funny.  :(
